We want to love when dd goes to uni and are currently in the south. I'd love a big ish detached house with a big garden and off an estate for £650-700k .. any ideas on areas that are nice ?
Jobs are irrelevant as DH works from home and only needs to get to an airport a few times a year .

Semi rural. Crap mobile signal. In need of a wallpaper stripper and better estate agent.

Next to J33 of M6, an hour or so to Manchester and Liverpool airports. 45 minutes to the Lakes, 15 minutes to the coast

Also next door to Lancaster uni should your DD fancy that Grin

Here's one, you'll have change even www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-63288280.html

MaxNormal · 01/09/2020 11:46

@gubbbbbddaaaa if you look at the property I linked to, that's in Stirling. Lovely little city in it's own right and you have very fast motorway connections to Glasgow and Edinburgh as well as train connections.
You're also surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the country, but still have all the conveniences of staying somewhere non-rural.

gubbbbbddaaaa · 01/09/2020 11:52

@MaxNormal that is awesome .. shocking what you can get for your money out of the south ..
@Advicewouldbeappreciated yes it's a serious question .. it's not a massive amount for the south !! Why can't I have a nice house that I've worked hard for without someone being bitter !!🙄🙄
We all work hard. Doesnt mean its ok to moan about trying to find a house for nearly 3/4 of a million
Get a grip
I am sure you are quite capable of looking on right move instead of stealth boasting on here. Its really distasteful

Jaxhog · 01/09/2020 11:55

Lincolnshire. House prices are cheap, the area is lovely and the people are very friendly. Watch out for flooding though.

Parts of Dorset are nice too if you want to stay South.

Advicewouldbeappreciated · 01/09/2020 11:55

No im not jealous actually. At all.

Advicewouldbeappreciated · 01/09/2020 11:59

@IntermittentParps

Advicewouldbeappreciated, can you expand on that?
I mean, its like saying 'oh I have 300 to spend on our weekly food shop Can anyone tell me where is nice?' Most of the country graft as the op is claiming to do. Half of them cant even afford their rent. Honestly it isnt hard to find a house with that money. It totally lacks class to brag on a national site as though there is a real question there-just look at a property site Im sure you will manage to afford something if you try very hard Hmm
MINEareCRAFTy · 01/09/2020 12:01

I live in Norfolk, I don't think we are unfriendly to people that aren't from here, I hope not anyway!

It's a great place to live, great beaches, the broads, lovely quaint villages and Norwich for great shopping and eating.

For places to live in Norfolk, some lovely ones include Holt, Blakeney, Coltishall to name a few

Toddlerteaplease · 01/09/2020 12:03

@Emma1962 I got diverted round Holmes Chapel last Friday when there was heavy traffic on the M6, it's a lovely area.

Toddlerteaplease · 01/09/2020 12:03

Nottinghamshire

vapeinafleshlight · 01/09/2020 12:05

So ironic that your username is @Advicewouldbeappreciated 😂. Take it that, despite the name, you never ask for recommendations?

The OP is asking for advice on nice areas to live within her budget. So what? Confused

gubbbbbddaaaa · 01/09/2020 12:05

@Advicewouldbeappreciated it's not bragging looking for a new place to live . I genuinely don't get your issue .. just go away !

For example in Lincolnshire

North Wales

House isn't anything special, but with the 200k you had left over you could make it great. The location is mind-blowing!!

Wow, 27 acres. Better not show DH 😀

Most places in Scotland. You could probably buy a castle for that is some places!

This is a popular misconception. A flat in some areas of Edinburgh could easily cost way over £650,000.

Dontstepinthecowpat · 01/09/2020 12:25

I’m more surprised that someone who has ‘worked hard enough’ to have a £750k budget on a house wouldn’t be aware of housing markets and areas. Or be able to access that info without asking on mumsnet.

Dramalady52 · 01/09/2020 12:25

Nottinghamshire! East Midlands airport, east coast trainline, M1 and A1, lots of pretty villages.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 01/09/2020 12:32

advice and dont I'm surprised that people who have nothing useful to contribute don't just scroll on by.

gubbbbbddaaaa · 01/09/2020 12:37

Oh jeez... I've only ever lived in the south , of course I can google house prices etc but was looking for personal recommendations ...not that hard to understand is it ??!

Don't disregard the north of Scotland - how about Morayshire for beautiful countryside and beaches. Either of these options are about an hour''s drive or less from Inverness airport for flights south, and a contrast in styles between modern or more traditional, with 6 or 7 bedrooms: www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-66783999.html www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-64162665.html
