How we tested the BabyGo 4-in-1 Support Belt

I used the BabyGo Support Belt a few times a week over a period of five months during my second and third trimester of pregnancy.

I decided to use the BabyGo Support Belt during my second trimester when I was still running weekly - I'd begun to struggle a little bit at this point and was recommended the belt by a friend. Although initially skeptical, I decided to try the belt out when I developed some pretty painful PGP (Pelvic Girdle Pain). The belt didn't fix my back pain entirely - I've got the magic of physiotherapy to thank for that - but it was a huge help from then on.

How easy is the BabyGo belt to use for the first time?

The belt comes with a booklet that includes a lot of information about pregnancy-safe exercises and not a huge about of help or advice about how to actually put the belt on.

It comes in three pieces. It took me a while to figure out how it works, but it does mean that there are three levels of support you can opt for, which I really liked.

How do you use the BabyGo Support Belt?

The velcro on the main larger section of the belt is very strong, so it took me a while to get the positioning correct. But once it was on I was really impressed with the support it gave. Initially I tried it using the main belly band but in the end I’ve mainly used it using all three sections which give additional support to the lower back.

At what stage of pregnancy did you use the belt?

I started using the belt when walking longer distances in my second trimester. I didn’t use it everyday, but on days when I knew I’d be on my feet a lot it was a huge help. I used it a few times a week since my second trimester.

How does the BabyGo belt adapt to accommodate a growing baby belly?

The velcro straps makes it really easy to adjust the size of the belt as my bump grew.

How discreet is the BabyGo belt?

Although the belt sits snug against your clothes or skin, it’s not 100% discrete. If you’re wearing a dress or baggy clothes you can hide it quite successfully, but it definitely bulges out a little. I also didn’t find it particularly comfortable to sit down in, so I tended to take it off once I arrived at work or wherever I was going.

Is it suitable to wear at night?

I didn’t wear the BabyGo belt at night time, I think the support would be too tight around my abdomen for sleeping. But if you’re struggling with sleep it might be helpful to wear the bottom belt.

How comfortable is the BabyGo Support belt?

Once you’ve adjusted the fit properly it’s quite comfortable to wear, sometimes I could hear the velcro moving around as I walked and I didn’t like how that felt. And I didn’t love sitting down with the belt on - I found it quite restrictive. Because it comes in three pieces it’s a little bit annoying to take it off, which made my frequent loo trips a bit of a pain.

Would you recommend the BabyGo support belt to others?

I would absolutely recommend this belt to pregnant women who need a little more back/bump support during pregnancy.

Once you’ve got the hang of putting it on, it’s a huge help if you’re on your feet all day.

However, if you’re experiencing severe back or hip pain you should absolutely raise it with your midwife or GP. Whilst the support belt is helpful, it doesn’t replace the need for additional treatment if you’re in pain.

Overall, I really like the belt and think it's well worth the £30 I spent on it. It’s been a lifesaver on busy days and after almost 5 months of use it’s still going strong.
