I know, I know I'm being unreasonable. And I've told myself a million times but it's still winding me up. I'm actually avoiding him because of it.

I'm 7 months pregnant, we have two kids.
He had a vasectomy today so I'm juggling the kids and uni and hospital appointments with this baby while he rests his testicals.
This, I have no problem with at all. It's been a long time coming! And the more he rests now, the better he will heal.

But the ill voice he is putting on is like nails down a black board.
He used to do it years ago, I haven't heard him 'put on' a voice in years. He used to put on this faint, wobbly voice whenever he had any ache or pain or cold. My sympathy used to instantly shrivel up.

Now he's putting on this small, high pitched little boy voice and it grates on my so much.
It's like pouring salt on my sympathy for his testicals. I really wish he wouldn't do it!

So I need to get it out here in this safe space where I can name change and move on.

<and breath>

I feel your feels.

Me, not pregnant can grit my teeth but as a pregnant lady I wouldn't be able to. I would have well snarled by now.

Maybe just stay out the way as much as possible grin

Has he got a dressing gown? DH does The Voice whilst shuffling in his Dressing Gown of Doom. If The Pathetic Cough starts up, I have to go out.

Freddiepurrcury Wed 24-Oct-18 23:20:17

Are you sure he wasn’t castrated? That could be the cause of the high pitched voice 😂

In all seriousness though, YANBU at all!

ThirdChildFourthPile Wed 24-Oct-18 23:20:41

Oh man he had The Pathetic Cough once where he stuck his tongue out during each cough like an infant. I've honestly only every seen a child under 12 months do that.
It's etched in my mind. I really wish it wasn't.

YANBU! God that would make me irate.

gamerchick Wed 24-Oct-18 23:21:09

Dressing Gown of Doom

OMG with the slack jawed hang dog expression every time you look at him grin

Thatstheendofmytether Wed 24-Oct-18 23:23:07

Just say "I didn't realise your voice would change into a small child's voice after the vasectomy. Do you think it will stay like that?"

Jamiefraserskilt Wed 24-Oct-18 23:23:43

Ahhh but your tiredness is nothing compared to his special tiredness. I bet his sick voice recovers in time to remind you (as you empty a dish of Bolognese on his head) that he did this for you so you should be more sympathetic.

MotherForkinShirtBalls Wed 24-Oct-18 23:24:04

Dh is sniffling. I may murder throw at box of tissues ungently at him. Pregnant me would have ripped his face off. You have my immense sympathy.

theWarOnPeace Wed 24-Oct-18 23:26:32

Argggh. The WORST. Sends me over the edge when my husband does this. I feel the need to psychoanalyse him, and dig deep into the reasons WHY he thinks it’s something an adult should be doing. I blame his mum!

blackcat86 Wed 24-Oct-18 23:26:47

OMG that drives me crazy to. My DH likes to do it intermittently and can't understand why complaining about how tired he is isn't well received now I'm up half the night with a 10 week old. There are times I could honestly throttle him! I find responding in a really overtly chipper way does the trick or (and for extra points you need to try and sound genuine) stating that of course he's more tired/ill than you. He'll usually mutter something along the lines of 'it's not a competition' and shuffle off.

2018SoFarSoGreat Wed 24-Oct-18 23:26:54

oh and the 'oopmph' sound at every tiny movement. Yes, it must be awful to be in pain, mustn't it? We women, we just have no idea. Here's to when they have man-flu. The world must come to a grinding standstill (exception being us scurrying around finding ways to make them feel better)

Dear. God. Truly, what IF a single man had to give birth? No, never mind that. Have a single period. Or a single smear test. Wait. A mammogram.

Sorry. My lovely DH does 'deathly ill' rather well. It makes me want to stab him in every orifice.

flowers OP. Stay far away.

AtSea1979 Wed 24-Oct-18 23:27:20

His testicles? Don’t they cut a bit higher up? Yikes glad I’m not a surgeon!

Valasca Wed 24-Oct-18 23:27:42

So he’s had a surgical procedure and you’re comparing it to a cold. And if a woman had a c section, she should also suck it up and not whine or is it ok to be feeling shite after that particular surgical procedure?

Dljlr Wed 24-Oct-18 23:28:23

YANBU. Maybe get him some ice-cream since his throat evidently hurts so much, but don't be too careful when you plonk it in his lap. <evil>

chaffymcchaff Wed 24-Oct-18 23:28:34

I've got a flat iron you could borrow...I'd definitely want to flatten him if I were listening to that nonsense!!

gamerchick Wed 24-Oct-18 23:29:09

I think a man has joined the thread wink

MotherForkinShirtBalls Wed 24-Oct-18 23:29:55

Valasca, in my repeated experience, yes, women are expected to suck it up after a c section and mind at least one child.

ThirdChildFourthPile Wed 24-Oct-18 23:31:28

atsea where do they cut?! Is it not the actual testicals?!

HereBirdies Wed 24-Oct-18 23:32:11

Yeah sorry @Valasca, I was discharged with a 5lb 11, 27 weeker after a c section. Major surgery, small human being with total reliance on me = hardest thing I've ever done.

TheFairyCaravan Wed 24-Oct-18 23:32:42

Is he doing the Sick Man Shuffle, too?

What is it with some men? They get the slightest ailment and out comes the dressing gown, the pathetic voice and the sick man shuffle. It makes me want to twat DH over the head with the frying pan so he's got something to moan about.

MayhemandMadness01 Wed 24-Oct-18 23:33:37

Err some sympathy please for the poor DH - he has just had his nuts cracked afterall grin

You could always offer to take him back to the doctors to have them completely removed since they are hurting that much.

ThirdChildFourthPile Wed 24-Oct-18 23:33:53

He is doing a Sick Man Shuffle but I can forgive him for that as I'm sure his conkers are very sore.

Not sure about his voice box though.
Perhaps I should offer his some strepsils.

chaffymcchaff Wed 24-Oct-18 23:33:53

@Valasca the OP isn't complaining about her DH feeling ill though is she? It's the ridiculous 'little boy' voice that's the issue...which is infuriating if you're having to listen to it for hours on end! Nobody actually needs to put on an 'oh poor me I'm so ill' special effect they??
