AIBU?

… to ask why Giles Coren hasn’t been cancelled yet?

The vile Dawn Foster tweets ffs. But he seems Teflon coated. He will never be cancelled. Three fucking columns a week … a pissing radio show, albeit on Times Radio, which surely no one listens to. I would love to be proved wrong. Absolutely love to be.

He's popular. I find him annoying.

He's a disgrace and the vast majority of the media and twitter luvvys remain silent Sad

He's establishment.
That 500 questions show he hosted was absolutely awful though.

Effectively a combination of Ha ha ha, you're dead, burn in Hell in respect of a journalist called Dawn Foster, who died in the last week.

And I have no idea what he's posted - it's perfectly possible to avoid people unless you yourself are a slave to twitter /social media.

Endlessly indulged man with few talents but many connections. There was this charming tweet about his neighbours about a decade ago.

"Next door have brought their 12-year-old son a drum kit. For f*k's sake! Do I kill him then burn it? Or do I f*k him, then kill him then burn it?"

"Child for sale, charred and partially f**ked. Has own drum kit."

A. It's amusing, if dark
And B. it's a decade ago when people had more of a dark sense of humour

Well there are many more recent examples. He accused another journalist of being a paedophile and stated he was coming around to stab him. Because the man made a comment he didn't like. He gets ever so slightly rattled when people quite correctly point out that the only reason he has a media career is down to nepotism.

Bryonyshcmyony · 20/07/2021 22:25

And by the way, there are many, many stand ups who do similar dark jokes. Some people find them funny. Sorry if you don't, but that doesn't mean they should be banned (the proper name for "cancelling" someone - banning them with a side order of personal abuse.)

cancel culture is a scourge.

Because malicious, nasty people who display behaviours which the general population wouldn’t find acceptable shouldn’t be afforded the privilege that being in the public eye affords them.

No one expects perfection but there are levels - if you live in the public eye and you reap the financial and social rewards that brings then are obliged to behave yourself and not be a piece of shit.

Cancelling only works for those who really deserve it bc the majority of people will buy into it - hence why the JKR cancel is ineffective. Bc she’s not a cunt and it’s got no basis in reality.

In today's tweet he was gleefully celebrating the death of a 33 year old journalist. He was celebrating because she had also once pointed out that his career was due to daddy's connections.

And plus nobody actually gets cancelled. I still find it bemusing that Suzanne Moore went on a whole 'Ive been CANCELLED' tour on the front pages of national newspapers and with a slot on the national broadcaster to air her grievances Grin

Giles Corey's father was an amusing and influential columnist with a long reach in the media world. Thus we are in receipt of Victoria, who seems OK, and the lovely Giles. Who should have been stood in the corner more often when a child. Talentless, arrogant, spoilt and over-indulged.

Seems strange thing to tweet to me. Did they have some long running dispute? Had the person that died been trolling him and his family?
It all seems so unnecessary imo and is why Twitter is such a toxic website and best avoided. It’s turning many journalists, experts, celebrities and scientists into not very nice people generally.
I do normally enjoy Giles coren’s columns and I like his radio show.

If his career is due to connections and very little else, is the same true of his sister?

And Giles Coren's wife, Esther Thingy, whose entire journalistic career is based on being Mrs Giles. She may not be as obnoxious as him, but she's even more pointless.
