The vile Dawn Foster tweets ffs. But he seems Teflon coated. He will never be cancelled. Three fucking columns a week … a pissing radio show, albeit on Times Radio, which surely no one listens to. I would love to be proved wrong. Absolutely love to be.

I am disenfranchised working class and I am glad when middle class women stand with me. Unfortunately they are the minority. My experience has been that middle class women will either turn the other way or turn on the WC woman to protect the Middle Class Man @mustlovegin. It's what's happening now Middle class women ignoring, deflecting, minimising and attacking others to protect the fucking nasty, middle aged, middle class mediocrity.

BTW, I know I'm being kind in describing him as "mediocre". The best he could come up with, over two years after the immensely talented female, working class, disabled journalist posted her original tweet and following her untimely death,❤ was:

An expensive private education. Those years in Oxford. His books. His decades, writing for a living in the job his dad got him. And ^^ the best he could do.🙄

The thing that I find really sad is that Giles Coren uses his expensive education and also his privilege to sneer at those less fortunate. Yes, I live in Belsize Park (admittedly the Kentish Town borders), but I can still recognise that Dawn Foster’s death was a tragedy because she was someone, unlike me, who came from the disenfranchised working class and fought to give people like her a voice. It’s appalling that Giles Coren, with all his education and privilege, celebrated her death. But @mustlovegin thinks GC must be “a nice person”.

It was questioning why, if you had a lot of time on your hands, you were only posting on this thread. I'm guessing it was deleted for troll hunting.

@cariadlet I do have a lot of time on my hands as I am in isolation in my house because I have Covid. I am trying to do a bit of work. Honestly, I only find this thread interesting. I am very interested in social media as a phenomenon. As I said before I don’t want to discuss baby names, Bugaboo Parma or babycinos.

Why is “troll hunting” not allowed and what actually does it involve? It sounds a bit Lord of the Rings.

@RaquelOak I'm not sure why troll hunting isn't allowed but it's probably on the talk guidelines.

You are limiting yourself if you are only following this thread. There's a huge range of topics being discussed. Whatever you're interested in, somebody somewhere will be talking about it. I mostly just see what is happening in AIBU or Chat but sometimes check out the books and films threads. I've also staeted spending more time on the feminism boards and have really had my eyes opened by some of the threads in there.

@cariadlet I am a very addictive personality and already have been completely consumed by this thread I feel like if I let myself loose on all the threads I wouldn’t get any work done! I could do Giles Coren and his cuntery as a Mastermind topic. Well, that or the life and times of Ghislaine Maxwell - I have listened to so many podcasts about her.

I'm horribly fascinated by Giles Coren. He's trapped in a private hell of his own making: pursuing a career he loves as an outspoken columnist, but cursed with the thinnest possible skin and the shortest possible temper.

At least with Liz Jones you sometimes got the feeling she might be happily scoffing toast in bed with her nine dogs and secret barrister husband while everyone gasps at her latest fictional swallow dive into emotional catastrophe.

Marrying a dickhead definitely does not mean having your house daubed in dog shit. Was it daubed? Doesn’t that mean smeared? The image suggested it was placed.

I think the problem is that most dickheads don’t have such a public platform. So they’re just dickheads to their spouses, colleagues, children etc. They don’t go around gloating at someone else’s premature death, or if they do they don’t do it for an audience of 250,000 Twitter followers.

If being a dick head was an Olympic sport, Coren would be in Tokyo right now with a gold medal around his neck at the top of the podium.

Gosh, me too. It’s definitely been exacerbated by being in quarantine but I’m also horribly fascinated by how vile and vindictive he is, but also self-sabotaging. I’m sure he’ll keep his Times column but I would think that this escapade would have completely torpedoed him being on mainstream TV again, other than on GB News.

He’s spoiled. His parents (and perhaps caregivers) spoiled him in childhood and young adulthood and failed to guide and shape his character properly.

It’s plain as day.

Just found this, from a 2019 interview with Victoria Coren Mitchell. It’s behind paywall (I am reconsidering my subscription..) and I can’t seem to copy just the text of this but, so have screenshotted. Sounds like she will be deeply unimpressed with brother dear at the moment.

@TooBigForMyBoots I do think Giles Coren is a talented writer. He’s not even nearly as good as A.A. Gill was, but he’s definitely not lacking in talent. He can sometimes be quite funny. It’s just a pity that he’s more well known for being a nasty little arsehole than a good writer.
