To think a rapist shouldn't be in a women's prision to start with?

MipMipMip · 06/09/2018 17:01

A rapist has now admitted to assaulting female prisoners while in a women's prision. (This individual is in prision for rape but the assaults on prisoners do not appear to have been rape. Assuming all have come forward. )

But there is a large part of me that think this is down almost entirely to the people who put him there. Don't get me wrong - I blame the rapist. But it is clear that they are opportunistic. So while you wouldn't be surprised if someone went in a tigers cage and got eaten, you shouldn't be surprised that a rapist going into a women's prision assaults women.

These assaults were wholly avoidable. AIBU to think the people who enabled the rapist should be held partially responsible?

*for clarity: as MNHQ do not allow a person to be misgendered and this individual identifies as trans I have not used male pronouns. I hope that this does not prevent clear discussion.

I totally agree with you op.
I think it is unconscionable that women are locked up with rapists. It is the sort of thing we read about happening hundreds of years ago pre 18th and 19th century prison reform and I think history is going to judge our age very badly indeed for the fact that we have started doing it now. It is barbaric.

Tobl20 · 06/09/2018 17:13

You used “him” lol!!!!

HollowTalk · 06/09/2018 17:14

Honestly, when I read this sort of thing I feel as though the world has gone completely insane.

MipMipMip · 06/09/2018 17:27

Bugger. I thought I'd changed them all.

Sorry MNHQ. Accident.

I got a 30 day ban for saying this on Facebook. Apparently it's "transphobic" to disagree with trans ID rapists to be housed in intimate quarters with women.

Angry Thank you for taking the whipping Flamethrower.

If I was a woman in that prison I’d claim to identify as male asap and get the hell out. A low security male prison would probably be safer if you hadn’t committed a violent crime.

DJLippy · 06/09/2018 17:41

When a male rapists feelings matter more than women's right not to be raped you know we're in a very dangerous place.

In Northern Ireland, which allows anybody to self-declare their own gender they still separate prisons by sex not gender - even if that person has legally changed their sex on their birth certificate.

Why are the prison services allowing males into female prisons? IMO all males should be kept out of females prisons - no exceptions. This just feels like the men in power (because the prison authorities & those making laws are overwhelmingly men) are expressing their hatred of women. They're doing this to be most powerless women in society. It's disgusting.

Agreed with earlier comments. Rapists rape, that's what they do. While that doesn't excuse their actions the responsibility for these attacks rests with those who allowed them into the female prison, along with the politicians & lobbyists who fought for such legislation in the first. place.

FissionChips · 06/09/2018 17:41

Outrageous.

zippey · 06/09/2018 17:44

A little confusing why this person is in a male prison now. If she was female before should she be in a female prison again? There needs to be clear guidance for the law otherwise it might be a lottery where prisoners end up.

I think you should either have a transgender prison or your where u go should be according to your biological sex.

BlackeyedSusan · 06/09/2018 17:46

It is incredibly stupid to think that putting someone who is predisposed to rape/sexually assault those with vaginas, into a place where vagina owners can not escape them/leave is not going to end in trouble.

about time they had a rethink of this stupid idea.

Babdoc · 06/09/2018 17:46

I’m struggling to understand how the hell a man convicted of raping a woman with his own damn penis can later claim to have ANY understanding of what it is to be female, let alone claim to identify as one? Surely his actions give the lie to his entire trans act?
Raping a woman is the most stereotypical toxic, entitled, patriarchal male behaviour possible.
As the bible says “ By their deeds shall ye know them”.
Actions speak louder than words.

MsBeee · 06/09/2018 17:47

This is the insanity of self-ID. and we are expected to share, changing rooms, rape crisis centres, hospital wards, dormitories etc.

But of course there could never be a problem, or if there was you could call the police.

Ok clear example here. Safeguarding is not waiting until it happens and then taking action.

Safeguarding is doing everything possible to prevent and protecting women in vulnerable situations.

Can you imagine, these women where locked up with a rapist.

Will repeat, its so unbelievable. These women where locked up with a rapist.

Mrskeats · 06/09/2018 17:48

This will keep happening. Worlds gone mad.

Dontknowwhatimdoing · 06/09/2018 17:55

That is truly terrifying! I just read out the basics of the article to DH and 10 year old DS. DS immediately said, "That's daft, just because he wants to be a woman, doesn't mean he actually is one, but it seems actually, yes, it does.

numptynuts · 06/09/2018 17:57

Boils my blood! A rapist of women conveniently identifies as a woman so is allowed complete access to vulnerable women.

What twat ever thought this was even an idea, let alone a good one.

themadhatterswench · 06/09/2018 17:58

Stop the world I want to get off Sad

WrongOnTInternet · 06/09/2018 18:00

Just popping in to agree and then go again, I've already aired my exactly duplicated views on the last thread on this. Does anyone else think that we might just possibly be seeing the return of some common sense in this country though with the Tory statement on trans?

starcrossedseahorse · 06/09/2018 18:02

Vile male rapist 'identifies' as a women to get in to the women's estate. Now why do you think he might do that...? Answers on a fucking postcard.

Babdoc · 06/09/2018 18:02

These violent men who pretend to be trans in order to access vulnerable women will harm the cause of quiet, decent, old style trans people just as much as they are harming natal women. Nobody in their right mind would accept self ID now, knowing that it leads directly to abuse like this.

littlbrowndog · 06/09/2018 18:06

A rapist locked up with women

Just vile

olderthanyouthink · 06/09/2018 18:08

🤬

NothingOnTellyAgain · 06/09/2018 18:13

Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to lock this person in with a load of vulnerable women.

They are a rapist for fuck's sake. A rapist.

viques · 06/09/2018 18:23

Well no one saw that one coming did they ?

Still, they are only women aren't they, and it seems it is better a whole prison full of women are placed in jeopardy than a so called transgender person with a history of violence towards women is upset and challenged about their gender identity.
