Who's signed up? I've done these every year since 2016 and I can't wait! Although my health has been poor this year I've managed to practice at home almost every day. I love the kickstart these give my year

Just reading some of you also suffer with tight hamstrings which is a big problem for me and something I desperately need to work on. Do you do extra stretches to try and loosen your hamstrings or is the whole yoga workout enough to try and help that aspect in particular?

Fhee · 03/01/2022 09:35

Thanks @itssquidstella 😊

Heels to the mat in downward dog is not essential! I’m pretty sure I will never manage it, regardless of how much yoga I do. Hamstrings can be stretched but my ankles just can’t do it.

Also, someone mentioned Adriene’s hypermobile elbows. Yup, pretty much all yoga instructors are hypermobile as far as I have seen 😄

niceupthedanceagain · 03/01/2022 09:59

Just checking in after day one - oof
Balance is completely shot! But did manage to attempt all of it. Harder than expected. Looking forward to day 2.

SunDance21 · 03/01/2022 10:22

@pancakes22

Just completed day 1... I'm terrible!!!

Can't get my heels anywhere near the mat in downward dog, my arms and wrists feel weak and shaky just from being in table top and when I try and get my foot inbetween my hands it's more like a jump to a knees and then trying to scramble my legs to try and fit under my chin!!

Please tell me it gets easier following this or should I be doing something easier?!

How's everyone else getting on?

A yoga teacher once told me to bend my knees in downdog so I could have my feet down and move the weight off my wrists. I now always bend my knees and it feels a lot more comfortable even if it doesn't look like the ideal pose.

I'm not a yoga teacher or anything close, just thought I'd share their comment to me incase it helps 😊❤️

Sooverthemill · 03/01/2022 10:23

I've done day one today as they are uploading too, late in the day for me ( disappointed as I am certain they sued to be earlier in previous years) and I do yoga first thing in the morning.
But I loved day 1 at a few points I felt "come on hurry up" but remembered that it's supposed to be a slow build up and tbh my body has had a bit of a break these last few weeks.
My lifeforme mat is pretty much non slip thank goodness but those gloves look good.
Feet don't have to touch the floor, hamstrings loosen as everything else tones.
Super happy so far!

I find stretches with bands really help 😊

@Fhee

Day one done! It was pretty good level for me, getting back into yoga after a couple of years out.

I’m trying to get running again too so did it after a short run, but was too sweaty! My hands were slipping all over the place, I couldn’t hold downward dog just because my hands were slipping forwards the whole time. Sweaty hands have always been a bit of a problem though, is there such a thing as yoga gloves?

You can get grippier mats for sweaty styles of yoga like bikram or ashtanga which are good. I’ve also seen people use chalk like gymnasts or weightlifters use to help grip.
Sooverthemill · 03/01/2022 10:25

@pancakes22 persevere. Day 1 is tough if you are new to it all. Honest

Just about to do day 1 here. Like a lot of posters I usually do it first thing, so timing was ok for me last year, but once I start back at work tomorrow it will be too late for me so will go a day behind.
I've done every 30 day challenge since True, so I think this is my 5th year, but I haven't done regular practice for a few months as I injured my shoulder in August doing aerial hoop 😆

tootyfruitypickle · 03/01/2022 11:03

Well day 2 was tough for me! I like doing it 'live', keeps me focused!

After this I might carry on and go through the other 30 days ones in a rotation.

Hopefully...

pancakes22 · 03/01/2022 11:18

@SunDance21 thank you that's a really good tip x

SkiRun0077 · 03/01/2022 11:25

@SunDance21 with tight hamstrings think about stretching the opposite muscle to it as well ie the front of the leg. I’ve had years of tight legs and a brilliant sports massage therapist said don’t neglect the other ones or you will disproportionately overload one muscle group. Now if I run I do a heel to bum stretch as well as back of leg hamstring and often she’s right my front quads are far tighter than I realised and pigeon stretch variations help.

SkiRun0077 · 03/01/2022 11:26

Sorry that was meant for @pancakes22 I’m still in a covid fog

namechange5575 · 03/01/2022 11:29

I've heard good things about Adriene, but ouf that was tougher than I expected! I am very out of practice. My aim was 'I'm doing this because I want my body to be stronger' though, so I do think it will help with that.

SnapCackleFlop · 03/01/2022 11:35

For anyone who wants to do the videos in the morning, there’s an option to download the series. You pay want you want (minimum $1, which equates to 77p or something), that way you have quite a few days ahead all ready to go so can do them any time that suits.

Like lots of others this is me getting back after near a year and I felt quite disheartened that it was tough, I feel better that others had this feeling too (I hope that doesn’t sound awful), it’s less discouraging to know I’m not alone!

Ietthemeatcake · 03/01/2022 11:38

Just finished Day 1. Tougher than I expected, but I definitely needed that stretch.

StarryNightSparkles · 03/01/2022 11:39

Hi, I would like to join please. Me and dd have signed up to do in the evening to relax and switch off. Will do day 1 tonight.

TurtleOnMyKnees · 03/01/2022 12:05

@Fhee I’ve never found mine slippy but I’m not hugely sweaty and haven’t used it for hot yoga or in any really hot conditions. I do love it for other reasons though!

plus3 · 03/01/2022 12:15

Thanks @UnaOfStormhold will keep this in mind - at the moment it is about the most ungainly move possible Grin

EmmaH2022 · 03/01/2022 12:16

I haven't done Adrienne yoga before because I saw a promo and found the manner annoying

but I signed up for it after hearing so much good stuff.

I am possibly at the hypermobile end so stretching is fine, but I really thought it was hard on the wrists and there was too much time spent in one position before switching.

I am very overweight and definitely need to lose but even going back to when I wasn't, I thought the upper body work was quite hard and didn't really expect that on Day 1.

Talisin · 03/01/2022 12:18

I had a problem with feet, rather than hands, slipping on my original mat. I decided to treat myself to a (eyewatertingly priced) reversable oversized mat from Lululemon and problem solved, plus I was no longer hanging off the end of it! There are definitely cheaper options out there that’ll do the same thing though.

Stillcrikey · 03/01/2022 12:19

That’s day 2 in the bag for me. Checking in for accountability. Found it tough but adjusted where I needed to. Loved it.

CeeCeeDeeBee · 03/01/2022 13:18

Did day 2 as it came out this morning, but it's a bit annoying waiting until 10am as I prefer to do it early.

guinnessguzzler · 03/01/2022 13:20

I found Day 2 tough too. Good though!
