Who's signed up? I've done these every year since 2016 and I can't wait! Although my health has been poor this year I've managed to practice at home almost every day. I love the kickstart these give my year

Anyone else back hurting now? I'm finding it really hard to get comfortable with an ache in my upper back. It think it's all that sitting up straight with nothing to lean against.

Verbena87 · 02/01/2022 21:24

Done. So lovely after a long day to just move gently and breathe deeply and be quiet.

2022IamHavingYa · 02/01/2022 21:30

I can never complete a 30 day course if anything! This year I am going to 😬
Just signed up so will catch up tomorrow

Lightningrain · 02/01/2022 21:40

I did day 1 this evening too. I’ve done some of the 30 day programmes for the last couple of years but never quite made it to the end.

I found today’s hard and could tell it’s been a while since I’ve practiced. Like PP’s I tend to get out of the habit for whatever reason and struggle to pick up yoga again.

I’ve had a couple of injuries and I know it helps yet I still don’t make the effort to carry on with it regularly.

SunDance21 · 02/01/2022 21:48

Just finished! Found it hard as haven't done yoga in way too long! But so glad I did it and looking forward to tomorrow 😊❤️

Henonthehill · 02/01/2022 22:09

Day 1 in the books Smile
I found it a challenge (definitely feeling it in my wrists) but am so glad to have done it and know I'll feel the benefits of regular practice. Looking forward to Day 2 already 🤗

lilacmoon78 · 02/01/2022 22:34

definitely tricky but hoping this will get me into the habit of yoga every day!

CeibaTree · 02/01/2022 22:36

I enjoyed the session today, but it reminded me how much I hate downward dog, it just makes me feel impatient and uncomfortable!

Jumbojem · 02/01/2022 22:41

Evening all! I've signed up, as I have done for the last 4 years. Never finished the full 30 days though, but maybe this is my year?!
I find it gets tricky once I return to work and kids to school and evening clubs/sports. Our house is too small or cluttered to do it anywhere than the lounge which means I have to boot everyone out (yoga is not a spectator sport!).
This one was a tougher than usual day 1 with some planks and hanging table tops. She also mentioned waking up the abs tomorrow Grin yikes! Although mine most def need the wake up call.

Rummikub · 02/01/2022 22:43

Day 1 was really hard!
Especially hard on my wrists (arthritis)

Will that get easier? I kept going out of position as couldn’t hold it.
I did yay too when she said now we go into our backs.

Nyx · 02/01/2022 23:16

@CeibaTree

I used to be the same with downward dog and did feel a bit that way today, but when i was doing more regular yoga i ended up loving it and genuinely finding it a pose i could rest and enjoy in. I'm hoping once I'm a bit stronger that will come back to me ...!
plus3 · 02/01/2022 23:21

Hi all - Day 1 done & feeling really happy to get back to it! Another one who starts but never quite completes the 30 day challenge…
Anyone else find body shape helps? I have very long arms and legs, so love downward dog, but really struggle with cobra.
It is also my aim to actually achieve moving from downward dog to a lunge…definitely not that flexible (yet)

Talisin · 03/01/2022 00:08

Just got my practice in before midnight. First four days I always like to do late at night, next to the tree with only the fairylights and a candle for light. Makes it magical.

That was surprisingly tough as people have said. I have an achilles injury and fell and smash the hell out of my knees a few weeks ago so I wondered how much I would be able to do. The knees were fine but I had to nope out of the three legged dog when grounding on the right leg as i was afraid of re-injuring it. I’m also a lot stiffer than I thought - rolling from my side over onto my back actually hurt - but I do feel very pleasantly relaxed and loose now.

@plus3 Yes! Down dog is really easy and comfortable for me but cobra is impossible, I have too much arm and my elbows are in the wrong place.

TurtleOnMyKnees · 03/01/2022 00:36

I’ve never done the 30 day programme before and am excited to do this one. Like a pp my upper body strength needs work and so I find it hard to hold the poses the full length of time. However one thing I’ve learned in the last year or so is to give myself permission to be exactly where I am with my strength, flexibility and fitness. It doesn’t matter if I have to release the pose earlier than the teacher or go to child’s pose or whatever. It’s my practice, for me, and I get to listen to my body and do whatever modifications I need. It’s not a competition, it’s not about perfection, it’s about learning and progress and showing up for myself. It’s been very liberating for me to stop beating myself up for not being stronger or fitter or more flexible. I am where I am and I’m showing up and making progress, and that’s what’s important.

Yes as I'm the total opposite to you. I find things like cobra really easy, but I've never been able to do downdog properly, even when I had a membership to a yoga studio that I attended every day. My hamstrings just do not like it.
Ulysses · 03/01/2022 08:02

Ooh, that was a bit tough for me and I've got a lot to improve on. It'll be good for me to have something to work to though and have a sense of making progress.

I've got tight hamstrings as well. And I struggle to put weight on my knees. I end up having a cushion underneath. Still it's done for today Smile.

PalacePaper · 03/01/2022 08:18

@SunDance21 @plus3 yes!! I have short arms and legs and can never get the right shape on downward dog but cobra is fine! I'm so glad you posted about body shape as I've never made the connection but I think that's probably part of the reason (plus my tight hamstrings Grin)

UnaOfStormhold · 03/01/2022 08:28

On moving the leg forward from downward dog into lunge, it really helps to shift your weight forward (like when bringing your knee towards the elbow) while lifting up onto the fingers on the side where the knee is being placed. But don't worry if you can't do it - you don't need to be flexible to do yoga any more than you need to be clean to have a shower!

Fhee · 03/01/2022 08:31

Day one done! It was pretty good level for me, getting back into yoga after a couple of years out.

I’m trying to get running again too so did it after a short run, but was too sweaty! My hands were slipping all over the place, I couldn’t hold downward dog just because my hands were slipping forwards the whole time. Sweaty hands have always been a bit of a problem though, is there such a thing as yoga gloves?

TurtleOnMyKnees · 03/01/2022 08:46

@Fhee I don’t know about yoga gloves but I have a cork yoga mat which is supposed to become more grippy as you sweat. Might be worth looking into.

guinnessguzzler · 03/01/2022 08:48

Can't believe I've only just found this topic! Doing Move this year for the first time. Won't get to today's until this evening but looking forward to it. Hope everyone else is finding it good so far!

Fhee · 03/01/2022 08:58

Does it work? Or are you not a particularly sweaty yogi? 😄

pancakes22 · 03/01/2022 09:10

Just completed day 1... I'm terrible!!!

Can't get my heels anywhere near the mat in downward dog, my arms and wrists feel weak and shaky just from being in table top and when I try and get my foot inbetween my hands it's more like a jump to a knees and then trying to scramble my legs to try and fit under my chin!!

Please tell me it gets easier following this or should I be doing something easier?!

How's everyone else getting on?

Cherrypi · 03/01/2022 09:18

Ooh I'm stiff this morning. Not done much yoga recently but didn't think it would hit me this hard.

itssquidstella · 03/01/2022 09:24

@fhee you can buy sleeveless gloves with rubbery grips (like the underside of a slipper sock) - I think they're for weightlifting but would also work well for yoga!
