Who's signed up? I've done these every year since 2016 and I can't wait! Although my health has been poor this year I've managed to practice at home almost every day. I love the kickstart these give my year

Day one done - I’ve had a year off due to Covid and a car accident and I really could tell.

Ulysses · 02/01/2022 16:28

I’ve done it in previous years but missed 2021. I’m a morning person too so will be a day behind and start tomorrow.

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 02/01/2022 16:38

Having done quite a few of the previous years’ 30 Days, I was surprised by how challenging this one was for Day 1. It’s a LOT of pressure on the wrists. But don’t be discouraged, anyone who found it tough! If you persist then you will find by the end of the month when she revisits these poses you’ll be amazed how far you’ve come!

PalacePaper · 02/01/2022 17:10

Just finished day one, I really enjoyed it Smile I agree with others, it was more challenging than I expected for day one! Sitting still at the start was very hard for me. I tend to do body balance rather than pure yoga and the pace for body balance is definitely a bit faster. I found myself with more time to really feel where I was in the poses which was really good and will hopefully be good for body balance as well.

becca3210 · 02/01/2022 17:26

Also done day 1. Calves are so tight when doing downward dog it is laughable but oh well can only get better 🤣 enjoying taking this time for myself think helped me to be a bit more patient with my toddler this afternoon.

Verbena87 · 02/01/2022 17:42

@Nyx I love this bit of your post so much: I read a great article somewhere about just accepting that you're rubbish at something to start off with and just doing it anyway. - culturally we’re awful at this and it’s such an obviously useful attitude.

itssquidstella · 02/01/2022 18:18

I’ve just done day one! Enjoyed the wrist circles and felt there wasn't too much waffle, which is something that sometimes frustrates me about Adriene's videos. I hope the series continues in the same vein!

onemouseplace · 02/01/2022 18:21

Just done Day 1 here and I agree - that seemed pretty tough, especially on the wrists. I haven't practised at all in the last couple of years but had a reasonably regular practice before that and I found that much harder than I expected.

JohnSmithDrive · 02/01/2022 18:22

Those of you who carry on after the 30 days, do you have system for choosing which videos to do? I find I spend longer browsing than I do doing yoga!

Weepingwillows12 · 02/01/2022 18:45

I found it hard too but mainly because you have to hold a lot of poses for a long time and my upper body strength is poor. I know from other years it's ok to drop out of poses early if needed and I will get stronger as we go on.

The main benefit for me is on my mental state. I really feel the calm after and also I feel positive that I am doing something to strengthen myself. I usually hate all exercise but yoga feels good. Not always easy but good.

EmmaStone · 02/01/2022 18:50

Day 1 done - I was expecting something much more sedate for Day 1 😂, but got through it. I've not done yoga for a couple of weeks, and have been running, so my hips were super tight, and my shoulders achy in the downward dogs.

We do the wrist exercises in class sometimes, and our teacher is at pains to explain that strengthening your wrists is so important as you get older to help support yourself if you fall (see also: balancing poses!), and not break your wrists (or hopefully less likely to).

Thanks for the yoga mat cleaning advice - I've still not done anything! 😂.

I noticed on YT that you can make a donation on her website and get instant access - might be of interest to those who'd prefer to start earlier in the day?

dairyfarmerswife · 02/01/2022 19:04

Hi. Can I join in. I'm a complete beginner but I really like the idea of being more flexible and stronger and challenging myself to show up consistently for a month. I've had the odd go at doing her 30 day courses before but not as they were published and I dropped out pretty quickly. I did the first one this afternoon and I was pleasantly surprised that it was quite active and not too chatty, but I found some of it hard including the downward dog, I couldn't hold it for the full length of time. Tell me it will get better?

weasle · 02/01/2022 19:21

Thanks for the tip for this. I did quite a bit of YWA in the first lockdown and found it fabulous physically and mentally (NHS worker) but i have gradually let it slip and haven't done any for ages.

Have just done Day 1. Loved it. She's so gently positive and reassuring. Will try to do daily. Agree annoying not released earlier each day!

I have this problem too! Would like to know how others choose.
poorbuthappy · 02/01/2022 19:26

Can I already be a day behind on day one? 🤣 My peaceful time is in the morning so went online to do day 1 to find that it's not released until 10! Bonkers. So I did 1 of her lower back routines instead and will do day 1 tomorrow instead

CeeCeeDeeBee · 02/01/2022 19:28

I'm in, did day 1 this morning and enjoyed it :)

I'm also pleased that most of the videos are sub-30 minutes this year. Anything longer than that and my mind really wanders.

Languidleopard · 02/01/2022 20:15

Completed day 1. I thought this was deceptively tricky because we were required to hold the poses for a long time. So for those of you struggling, you are not alone!

A couple of posters asked about choosing videos going forward from 30 days. I usually go by length and/or theme.

I find the short, sharp morning practices excellent to kick-start a day working at home. If I'm yogaing at the end of the day then I go for something core-based or a flow around 20 -30 mins. I save 45-60 min videos for the weekend!

Finally, I have a list of tried and trusted favourites to address specific "needs". For example low self esteem, courage, vulnerability, anxiety...I find these super useful to shift my perspective in tough moments.

Readytostartagain · 02/01/2022 20:17

Day 1 done. Felt it in my hands and wrists particularly and made me realise how long it was since I last did any yoga. Looking forward to tomorrow though

BalancingStick · 02/01/2022 20:18

Loved this today. Am in for the month!

Shinyandnew2022 · 02/01/2022 20:26

Thanks to this thread I have signed up and completed day 1
Really enjoyed it but glad others are saying it was quite a tough start as I was definitely feeling it !
Excited about a new yoga habit - it's been far too
Long .

Cherrypi · 02/01/2022 20:59

She's not messing around this year is she? Grin Found that tricky and my neck made some strange noises at one point. Know this will definitely make me feel better though. Going to try and stay on pace as I usually do it in the evening but would prefer an earlier release time for when I do Zumba in the evening. Good luck everyone.

SunDance21 · 02/01/2022 21:07

Just about to do Day 1. Doing it with DH which is nice and hopefully good for accountability 😊

MsFrog · 02/01/2022 21:13

So glad to see others saying this was a tough start today! I really enjoyed it, though - she has a lovely way about her. I really like how affirming it is, love the focus on showing up for yourself.

Just done it (only remembered around 8.30pm) and I was thinking the same re wrists. Mine are a bit weak anyway due to hypermobility, but I had to stop a couple of times and shake them out. Found it tougher than I expected, but I've always relied on my hypermobility for yoga and forget that my strength isn't great (why I'm here!).
UnaOfStormhold · 02/01/2022 21:20

I guess it's tricky for her to please everyone - having done yoga regularly for a while I found the start to last year really slow, but I totally get today would be a bit much for people who are newer to the practice. Do remember if you're struggling with anything it is totally OK to change the pose so it's easier or do something else instead. I think my yoga is much better when I listen to my body and go with the flow rather than trying to push something that just isn't working. I did a yoga class last summer and the teacher seemed a bit surprised that I was occasionally doing my own thing - YWA has given me a lot more options and understanding.

In previous years I've done other 30 day sequences once the January one was done - it's easy because it is nicely structured and takes the decision-making element away. I've worked through most of them so far - Home was my first 30 days and is still my favourite, but True and Revolution are really good too. She does a monthly calendar but I find them a bit of a mixed bag - they're all lovely practices but somehow the one that's scheduled is never quite the one I have the time for, or am in the mood for, so I end up going browsing again.
