Who's signed up? I've done these every year since 2016 and I can't wait! Although my health has been poor this year I've managed to practice at home almost every day. I love the kickstart these give my year

I’m going to follow a day behind so I can do it first thing.

DelightfulDinosaurs · 02/01/2022 09:11

I'm in too. I've got an 8 week old baby so I'm not entirely sure when I'm going to do it each day, but I want to try to find the time.

TiddleTaddleTat · 02/01/2022 09:12

Yup, think I’ll start later until schools return and then will take a rest day and follow on a day behind like others. Once I’m back in the swing of work and school drop offs I’ll be doing these first thing before the rest of the house gets up, I think. Going to try doing it from my freezing cold conservatory so I’ve decluttered a bit and added a small heater.

Hello everyone

I'm really interested in trying this for 30 days. Can I ask those who have done it before (from nothing ) what I can expect by the end of it?

Will I be able to notice any changes in my rather creaky, stiff, ageing self?

Just looking for motivation really.

For me, the benefits are huge. I feel looser in the joints, but tighter in my core and muscles. I also find it incredibly relaxing and love having a small period of time in the day where the real world doesn't intrude.

The month usually starts easier (also don't get put off by day 6, which is usually a bit of a core-blaster, it's usually followed by a couple of chilled out days), so good for beginners. Just make sure you go at your own pace. And don't be afraid of repeating videos if you need to

CanapeWader · 02/01/2022 10:46

What are the benefits of 'signing up' over logging into her YouTube channel daily?

Gufo · 02/01/2022 10:47

Today's was great - DD joined in - but had to stop midway to tell DS off in a very non-yogi way! I have been doing yoga for a bit but still have to lift my leg to the top of the mat from downward dog to lunge!

clary · 02/01/2022 10:57

Hi all, about to do today's video. Like others, I normally do my yoga first thing so I may have to run a day behind after tomorrow.

I was sure that last Jan I was able to do them early doors so it's good to get confirmation.

For those wondering about the benefits - I have been doing a daily YWA practice since May 2020 (apart from three days when I had COVID) and I am much more able to stand on one leg, balance, plank, forward fold (ie touch toes) than I could before. I am late 50s and it has definitely made a big difference.

I did all the 30-day calendars first, then moved to her curated choices; you do some again and again but that's fine. The monthly calendar usually includes a new practice as well. There are different times so if you can't fit in a 40-min one you can always switch to a 20-min onen from another day.

tootyfruitypickle · 02/01/2022 11:12

Really pleased with myself, first day done, I enjoyed it, was stretchy and nice and definitely the right length for me.

Redcrayons · 02/01/2022 11:31

Day 1 ✅
I’ve let my yoga slip quite a lot so I really struggled with my arms and wrists. Hopefully this will give me a good kick and I can get my strength back.

TiddleTaddleTat · 02/01/2022 11:32

Done here too! Found some of the downward dog section a bit tricky at times and was pleased when it ended! Still, proud of myself for actually starting Grin

clary · 02/01/2022 11:39

Just done it and can I say to anyone new to practising and perhaps not so flexible or strong as they will become - there is No Way I would have been able to hold that hovering table at the start for the full length 18 months ago. It really does help improve strength and flexibility.

Snowiscold · 02/01/2022 11:46

This was my first time trying yoga. I found it too difficult and had to drop out of a few bits. The three-legged dog thing was too hard, for example. I’ve got problems with my Achilles’ tendon and can’t even walk downstairs without difficulty. I don’t want to exacerbate things.

clary · 02/01/2022 11:51

@Snowiscold you can always revert to child's pose (or anything else that suits) at any time and pick up when you are able to. Three-legged dog is really hard; I had a mystery hip injury at the start of the week and it was still twingy this morning. And I cannot get my heels on the floor in downward dog.

Adriene's whole philosophy is to find what feels good - no one should feel that they have to do x or y. My balance and forward folds are majorly improved, but my Crow is still a long way from flying, even after 18 months. And that's fine.

TiddleTaddleTat · 02/01/2022 11:59

Is anyone else quite hypermobile and doing this programme? I’ve had a few bad experiences with yoga that have caused me minor injury due to stretching too far etc. Hoping I don’t do the same this time.
I noticed adrienne’s elbow joints were overextended (hypermobile). I thought the bit with twisting hands towards knees wasnt great tbh, I often accidentally have my elbows like that and correct myself.

Stillcrikey · 02/01/2022 12:31

Day one done. It has been so very long since I did any yoga but really enjoyed it. No way could I do all the moves but I just went with what felt good / slightly challenging.
I have a really weak right wrist so have to be careful. But I found the pace etc. really good and I was able to change / miss bits where I needed to.
The cat loved it too!
Here’s to tomorrow.

MoreCraicPlease · 02/01/2022 13:00

My dog really enjoyed it after a barking fit at the mat when it appeared. Here’s now flat out asleep!
I enjoyed it very much and liked the addition of some non yoga stretches. But I do agree that the extended wrist twisting isn’t ideal and I’ve never seen that in any yoga class I’ve done (which is a fair amount). It’s pretty slow but can see how it’ll build nicely over a month. I’ll show up tomorrow!

I'm so glad it's not just me! I still have to do this but am hoping I'm going to get the knack this time
JohnSmithDrive · 02/01/2022 13:33

I used to do quite a bit of yoga, but not really for the last 2 years. I did the first session this morning. That was hard for a first one....wasn't it?

Verbena87 · 02/01/2022 14:47

Mine will have to be once the 4 year old sleeps. I have, however, stripped a ceiling and washed off the 30+ year old wallpaper paste slime today, so am counting that as a supplementary feat of balance strength even if it wasn’t very mindful and involved a quantity of cursing.

parrotonmyshoulder · 02/01/2022 14:55

I enjoyed today’s. I’ve done quite a few years of these and mostly keep daily yoga up all year. Injuries in 2020 and other problems in 2021 stopped this though, and I started daily again in December. I find I get back into it quite easily.
I like 20-25 minutes. 30 just seems too long, unless it’s the weekend! So today was fine.

Nyx · 02/01/2022 15:35

Phew, I've just done day 1. I'm 50 in just over a week and really feel I've stiffened up in the last year. I found today's Adriene yoga pretty tough, mostly because of weak wrists and knees that really don't like being on the floor, even with a yoga mat on top of a rug.

Last year I might have given up - I used to be reasonably good at yoga when I was younger and slimmer and found it difficult to accept that I am now so creaky and weak. But I read a great article somewhere about just accepting that you're rubbish at something to start off with and just doing it anyway. How on earth am I going to get stronger and more flexible if I don't do it at all? So today I did my best, going into child's pose when I had to and continuing when I felt able. I'm so glad I did and hope I can keep it up Grin

Well done everyone who is giving it a shot, I was so glad to read someone saying they found day 1 quite hard, it helps that it's not just me!

cungryhow · 02/01/2022 15:56

Struggled with the being still at the beginning of day 1. I was desperate to fidget but tried really hard to keep calm and settled. Once I was moving though I enjoyed it and found it challenging.

After about a week- week and a half - you should definitely notice feeling more flexible and ‘looser’. I also find mentally that I feel much calmer and unstressed.
Jedstre · 02/01/2022 16:09

I’ve completed day 1. Felt about the right length for me. I realised how stiff my hips are so looking forward to feeling looser and to feeling calmer.
