Who's signed up? I've done these every year since 2016 and I can't wait! Although my health has been poor this year I've managed to practice at home almost every day. I love the kickstart these give my year

I completed day 8 today, I know this was really more meditation and I was tempted to miss it but actually it was good to just carve out the time and do the gentle practise. I am glad I did it but I am not very good at the more gentle side of yoga, I like to feel I have worked out.

itssquidstella · 14/01/2022 12:14

You can do crow with upper arms on knees rather than knees into armpits!

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 14/01/2022 12:23

Not feeling my usual post yoga glow after Day 13.

Feel rubbish-admit wine was drunk last night and I ate a handful of pretzels after dog walk (i don't know why-they were there) and they sat in my stomach like a lead weight-I never eat before for this very reason.

Can't do froggy/crow because I can't bend my knee like that for fear of it popping out so just subbed in other balance/flying but on the whole I felt completely discouraged and self critical Sad

arootintootingoodtime · 14/01/2022 12:24

I am two days behind (but do it in the evening so it feels a bit like three days behind!) so will do Day 11 this evening, but came here to see if anyone else got a bit freaked out by the crow in the Day 13 email - I feel a bit better that I'm not alone!

My ribs and some part of my feet that I don't think I knew existed were feeling it this morning! I was toying with the idea of catching up at least one day at the weekend but thinking it might be overdoing it, which defeats the point! I'll see how I feel Smile

arootintootingoodtime · 14/01/2022 12:25

Um, apologies to all for my overuse of exclamation marks in that post.

Languidleopard · 14/01/2022 13:46

@SimonedeBeauvoirscat

I see from today’s email that the session includes crow pose again. It is the one yoga move I absolutely cannot do in the slightest. I’m not sure why. I just can’t seem to get my knees into my armpits in the way she does. I’m wondering if it’s because I’ve got short arms?! I’ve tried so many times and unlike other poses which are hard to start but improve with practice, I just cannot make any headway with this one.
@SimonedeBeauvoirscat I have freakishly long arms and can't do it either 😔 I assumed it's because I don't have much upper body strength? Whatever the reason, it's just not happening for me.
Rummikub · 14/01/2022 13:56

Completed day 11. I liked this one.
Day 13 crow sounds scary!

NoMoreTractors · 14/01/2022 14:27

Managed day 9 this morning. My balance is definitely better on my right leg! Hoping to do day 9 this afternoon if baby agrees be put down for a nap!

NoMoreTractors · 14/01/2022 14:28

Day 10 even

NoMoreTractors · 14/01/2022 14:32

I think crow may be a strength thing rather than flexibility as no matter how much yoga I do I've never managed it but my builder partner who doesn't practice yoga managed it the first time he tried.

tootyfruitypickle · 14/01/2022 15:16

I also cannot see how the hell crow is even remotely possible ! How can you balance your weight on your arms ?
Todays felt short at least !

NoMoreTractors · 14/01/2022 16:29

Just managed day 10. I felt better for that.

Shinyandnew2022 · 14/01/2022 18:51

Just done day 13 - it was short and sharp for me ! My legs are really feeling all that half moon business. ( if that's the right name) The crow bit was like a rest compared to that.
I can't do crow by the way but still get a good stretch and try to shift my weight forward as far as I dare.

I know it's possible though as when I previously practised yoga I went from thinking absolutely no way ever to just about lifting off for a few seconds here and there.

I can't believe It's nearly the halfway point .

Shinyandnew2022 · 14/01/2022 18:56

@NoMoreTractors

I think crow may be a strength thing rather than flexibility as no matter how much yoga I do I've never managed it but my builder partner who doesn't practice yoga managed it the first time he tried.
I also agree with this - I remember dragging DH to a class once and being quite put out he could do it easily on first attempt ! He sort of whooped n a self congratulatory way which I made sure he knew wasn't very yogic .

It is amazing how you progress though as my friend who I started with went on to become amazing at hanging around in strong headstands after a while too . We initially thought those looked impossible too. ( I was already pregnant by then)

Gufo · 14/01/2022 19:11

Day 12 done - enjoyed it, but my legs were burning, and are now like jelly.

I have done crow precisely once - who knows maybe tomorrow will be my day Grin. I have long arms and not much upper body strength - neither of which help!

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 14/01/2022 19:52

Ok maybe it is just my feeble upper body then! Thanks for the solidarity all, glad it’s not just me.

Jumbojem · 14/01/2022 20:19

I am a long way from being able to lift my feet in crow. I'm obviously wrong somewhere as my knees are hurting my arms when I try to lift my feet. But I'm hoping of I preservere I'll get there.
I too thought we were getting a relaxing one when she rocked up in a sweatshirt 😆
One huge change I've noticed, I'm so much more positive in outlook and motivated generally in life. I think taking the half hour to relax, focus and breathe is really helping, and that is with what has been a full on work project since I started back at work after Xmas.

UnaOfStormhold · 14/01/2022 20:57

I seem to end up with my knees slightly outside my forearms in crow as it seems easier to get the legs up that way and doesn't hurt the arms. I feel more like a mushroom than a crow but I managed about 2 seconds today which is more than I've done before; I can definitely see how it is possible now, though it would take some focussed practice to be able to do it consistently. I agree arm strength is definitely helpful - men tend to have proportionately stronger upper bodies than women so that would explain why people's DHs could manage it.

misskatamari · 14/01/2022 21:33

Have fallen a little behind, so I did 11 and 12 today. Hoping I can do some tomorrow as dd is having friends over for her birthday, so I'll be rushing around in the morning and probably full of cake by afternoon!

I also need to make time for Pilates soon! I do a weekly online class and I haven't done one since starting this yoga. I know someone mentioned pilates upthread. I find it quite different to yoga, and I think I prefer it as I helps me feel really strong. I find there's more repetition whereas with this yoga I often find things move a little fast for me. I do enjoy it though, and am definitely feeling the benefits of a daily practice. I think when the 30 days finishes I'd definitely like to keep up doing it on days when I don't do my Pilates classes

becca3210 · 14/01/2022 21:38

Day 13 done. Felt a bit fast paced and rushed compared to some so don't feel as peaceful and relaxed. Could not do that bum and feet in the air one at all 😂

becca3210 · 14/01/2022 21:40

Now reading back prior messages can see that is called crow! Glad I am not alone in finding that hard

BalancingStick · 14/01/2022 23:55

Just completed Day 13 before heading to bed. This is definitely one of my favourites- I love all the balancing postures.

Sooverthemill · 15/01/2022 09:34

@SimonedeBeauvoirscat Adrienne has a slightly cheesy crow pose which may help and kassandra has one ? I'm not especially good at crow though can usually mange it. My knees and armpits never make contact!

@misskatamari I love Pilates too but agree it's totally different though shares a few poses I guess. The focus is on teeny tiny movements . I used to have a 121 session once a month and attend a weekly practice but that all went to pot when DD got cancer and now I occasionally do an online class. But yoga for me is my lifeline. My osteopath is amazed at how flexible I have become in hips.

So I did day 12 today despite being really fat and unwell over the last few days I was determined! I loved it, was also fooled by her sweatshirt ( how does she practice in so many clothes?) but it was fabulous as always. Very happy with this 30 days!

I've just done day 13 - after a few more slow paced days this one was definitely more challenging! I also had moments of wondering if I was doing the wrong day as it had similarities to day 12, this was confusing for me! Really enjoyed it though, and glad I didn't do it yesterday evening - this was definitely a day time one for me.

parrotonmyshoulder · 15/01/2022 10:55

I just did day 12. I’m a bit behind but might fit in 13 later today. I liked 12 a lot. Feel like I was challenged!
I’m struggling with low back pain so missing out all cobras. Even cow is hard so I’m modifying it. I am very hypermobile so although probably look like I can do a lot of poses, I have to be really careful in them. All have our own differences- that’s what I really like about yoga.
