Who's signed up? I've done these every year since 2016 and I can't wait! Although my health has been poor this year I've managed to practice at home almost every day. I love the kickstart these give my year

I can't bear kneeling back on my toes. Anyone else? Also can't get my leg straight through from a lunge. Think I've managed it once near the end of a thirty day stint.

itssquidstella · 03/01/2022 20:13

I'm pregnant so I couldn't do anything on my stomach or the bicycles at the end, so I had to modify today's practice quite a lot. I really enjoyed what I did do, though!

MilduraS · 03/01/2022 20:23

I started a day behind so I could do it early in the morning when I go back to work tomorrow. Accidentally ended up completing Day 2 and only realised when YouTube offered me Day 1 next Blush I really enjoyed it but hope to see my balance improve with the lunges. I was getting very wobbly towards the end!

DelightfulDinosaurs · 03/01/2022 21:06

Day one done. Oof! I'm joining the camp of those who can't lunge forward in one movement. I also can't really sit back on my toes. And, I'm fairly sure my arms and legs are too short for my poses to look anything like hers!

Midnightstar76 · 03/01/2022 21:20

Day 1 done , had a rest day today as was couch to 5king it as well yesterday so chill out day today. Back to work tomorrow and if can’t sleep going to get up at 5.30 ish to squeeze the yoga in then maybe a HITT to wake me up. Who knows I may be in the land of nod still but if so will do on lunch break.

CanapeWader · 03/01/2022 22:16

I'm in the day behind camp too as I like to get it in early morning.

I'm also in the harder than usual for day 1 camp (I've tried this for the last couple of years but tend to drop off by the 3rd week. Hopefully not this time) and the can't sit on toes camp (bunions make this virtually impossible).

Glad to be back

SunDance21 · 03/01/2022 22:21

I'm so glad I found this page so I know I'm not the only person finding it hard! I had a really rough year and ate my feelings so put on 3 stone 🙈(!!) so doing yoga now feels so different to when I use to do it.

Use to do yoga in the mornings too, but actually quite enjoying it just before bed time. It is making me feel so relaxed and sleepy!

See you all tomorrow for day 3!

Talisin · 03/01/2022 23:58

Day 2 done and that was absolutely lovely! I really, really enjoyed myself, nothing hurt tonight and I was able to hold the planks (although my transitions are a horrible mess Xmas Grin) Even better, my achilles didn’t ache at all this morning and it’s been months since that happened. I stretch it every morning but Adriene just seems to have some special magic.

Talisin · 04/01/2022 00:04

@dairyfarmerswife

Yep done here too. The bicycle legs were the hardest for me although I can't do all the downward dog either. Again no idea if I'm doing it right. Half an hour is about right - I find myself thinking it's going to go slowly and then pleasantly surprised when I'm done. One thing, I don't have a yoga mat. How necessary is it?
I need the extra cushioning of a mat myself and my feet tend to slip on carpet but lots are fine with no mat.
RagzReturnedUnwrapped · 04/01/2022 00:40

I did it on carpet yesterday and on my mat today. Struggled more with the mat, my hands kept slipping. I was fine with carpet, but it's cheap rough carpet so not at all slippy.

As PP said, my neck/shoulder area was sore today from Day 1. Wrists didn't suffer as much this evening, but other parts did! I somehow managed to hold the planks, but had to take a few breaks from the 3 leg dog bit and rest. Also like many others, I can't bring my leg all the way up for a lunge, which annoyed me as I used to be able to so that. Haven't done any exercise for ages though and have also gained 3 stone in the last couple of years.

Same here I liked that she said dint think about how you look but on how you feel

You definitely don't need a mat if you don't have one. They're good for cushioning and for helping with positioning to an extent.

The thing I like about having the mat is that it sets my intentions to do yoga. Sound stupid maybe, but when I get out my yoga mat I instantly start to relax as I associate it as the place I go to relax.

Sooverthemill · 04/01/2022 09:06

I like unrolling my mat in the morning too it makes me feel good. Daft
I also felt it was a little like a previous 30 days so may be Dedicate but I haven't done that for ages! God I loved that and True. The hardest for me for day 2 was when you lift a hand and are putting weight on just one shoulder. I worry about this as I have old shoulder injuries on both sides but I just do it for a fraction longer than my body wants to and hopefully this will build up as usually I avoid those positions in my daily yoga. I am loving it as usual. Though I wish she would say go to downward dog and then explain downward dog rather than explaining then saying the name as it confuses my body ( but that's probably because I am not a newby and I kind of guess what is next). Hope every one enjoys day 3!

I did day one on the day it came out, but missed yesterday so that I can run a day behind and do yoga first thing.

Have just done day two and found the bicycles at the end hard but very pleased I managed to get to the end. I love thinking about all of us practicing around the country (world?) in our bedrooms and living rooms Smile

Sparkai · 04/01/2022 09:26

@talisin Thankyou! That's very helpful

MsFrog · 04/01/2022 09:39

@JohnSmithDrive

Anyone else back hurting now? I'm finding it really hard to get comfortable with an ache in my upper back. It think it's all that sitting up straight with nothing to lean against.
@JohnSmithDrive yes, I'm having this as well. Think those muscles must be pretty weak, my posture, I'm realising, is terrible!
plus3 · 04/01/2022 10:12

I am so happy to read that others struggle with the lunge transition- I truly thought (when I was on the mat) I was the only one who couldn’t Blush & therefore perfectionist me would end up giving up…
This thread is fab - thank you

Redcrayons · 04/01/2022 10:53

Even lovely Adriene would struggle to find something positive to say about the ungainly way I hoik my leg up into lunge. I’ve been doing yoga off and on for 3 years and have managed it a handful of times, each time a surprise. I only get my heels on the floor in downward dog half the time as well. It’s

@SunDance21 It’s not essential, I started without one and it was fine. I do a post run one and I don’t usually bother to get it out for that. If you’re doing it on carpet, the mat will help stop your hands and feet slipping when in DD and lunges. If you’re already on a hard surface the extra cushioning will be nicer on your knees. It doesn’t need to be expensive, my first one was a fiver from sports direct.

plus3 · 04/01/2022 10:57

Day 3 done - my favourite so far

sweetkitty · 04/01/2022 11:02

Placemarking
My wrists are hurting, oh and my shoulders I have no upper body strength whatsoever, I don’t think I process core muscles. Can’t plank or lunge properly. I have fibromyalgia so the daily movement is good for me I always start then give up I’m so determined this year to keep going though.

Verbena87 · 04/01/2022 11:17

Did day 2 last night lying in the mess from stripping, filling and sanding in my little boy’s room. Felt a bit easier after getting in the swing a bit with day 1, though I’ve got some sort of mysterious hip ache (running induced, not brought on by this) which makes my lunges very variable.

Meant to do day 3 this morning but it somehow hasn’t happened - never mind. I’m quite enjoying bedtime yoga too.

arootintootingoodtime · 04/01/2022 11:23

I've seen this thread and signed up - thank you all.

I'll be running a couple of days behind, obviously, but I really need this now I'm WFH full time. Going to do it at night to get rid of the aches and pains from sitting hunched over all day (I try not to but ...) and hopefully help my sleep!

namechange5575 · 04/01/2022 11:38

Just done Day 2: my body aches from yesterday and I couldn't hold most of the positions. I'm committed, but when will it start to get easier / my body start to get stronger?

DelightfulDinosaurs · 04/01/2022 12:09

@Rummikub I felt wobbly and tired for the most part Grin do you think that's what she meant?

Snowiscold · 04/01/2022 12:18

Just done day 3. Found it hard and had to stop at some points. Couldn’t do the bits where you had to straighten your back leg. But I felt the stretch, so maybe that’ll improve. I also can’t do the bit where you lower to the ground after the plank. I have no upper body strength, I can see!
