Who is going to do Adriene’s 30 day programme January 2021?

I’ve done the last few years and try to do a video most days throughout the year. I like the structure of the 30 days. I think my favourite was Home as the length (short) of the videos suited what I had time for. Looking forward to seeing what’s to come.

THat's really helpful, thanks.
I may re- join the journey in that case!!

Kicked myself out of bed and did day three at 7am this morning.
No school run this morning at least.

thisislovelyme · 04/01/2021 11:12

Day 3 done. Best yet, ocean breath a revelation. Really felt the heat today too. God I'm pleased with myself for getting to day 3!

I loved the ocean breath too. I am really loving just focussing on breathing. I am asthmatic and sometimes I think I shallow breathe too much. This yoga is great exercise for my lungs!
EmmaStone · 04/01/2021 11:29

Day 3 done before work this morning. Thank goodness for no commute (WFM for foreseeable, may be the first 30 days of yoga I can actually stick to).

Was a little too long on the breathing for me this morning, I did want her to just get on with it (that's not terribly yogic of me, is it?!? Lol). I also find, because I'm so used to my yoga teacher's style of flows, and tend to know how her pattern of flows are going to go, I can pre-empt in my normal classes, but Adriene isn't quite so predictable, so sometimes I go into what I think the next move should be and find she actually wants us to do something else. I need to slow down!

HensInTheSkirtingBoard · 04/01/2021 11:33

I guess I like the accompanying Mumsnet threads and the idea of people all over the world doing the same practice on the same day

Me too! Smile

Not done day 3 yet but will carve out some time later. Ujjayi breathing is a wonderful thing! So good for helping with focus and so calming yet invigorating at the same time.

Talisin · 04/01/2021 14:48

Day 2 done and pre-warned about the plank, I did shift to half plank at the point she said ‘the next 15 seconds’ and passed on the mountain climbers this time Smile Wrists felt nice and loose and only started aching after the extended plank. I may try for day 3 later so I’m caught up before I’m back to work tomorrow.

Re the new studio set-up - does anyone else find the sound is harsher? It’s certainly got an echo the old place didn’t but I think it affects the tone of the practice as well, it feels less ‘cosy’ for want of a better description.

Sooverthemill · 04/01/2021 15:45

This is a studio she rents sometimes. Guessing it’s better for sound snd lack of interruptions than previous or her home. Last year she did a blog on the app explaining her choice of studio. I think it takes a month to film

niceupthedance · 04/01/2021 16:23

Completed day 3, a bit too much waffle during poses I was struggling to hold them while she was doing the detailed explanation! I hope my strength will improve as I go along... 😂

speakout · 04/01/2021 18:11

I think the waffle is deliberate in order to distract and enable you to hold the poses a bit longer.
I know many yoga yeachers use this technique!

UnaOfStormhold · 04/01/2021 18:44

For those who like the feeling of people practicing together, it's quite inspiring to check the number of views before watching and then refresh to see the numbers afterwards - the difference is the number of people who were practicing alongside you!

I don't mind the chat in poses, as speakout says it helps keep me going!

Haworthia · 04/01/2021 18:56

Total yoga beginner here. Did day one a day late and can’t get on with day two today because I have a zoom Pilates class tonight. So it looks like I’ll be going at my own pace Blush It was long but I did feel great afterwards.

Don’t think I would have been able to follow without my Pilates knowledge actually. Was conscious of doing things wrong and kept needing to squint at the screen to have any hope of following!

itssquidstella · 04/01/2021 18:59

I enjoyed Day 3, especially that extended child's pose - I find it more relaxing than savasana!

Persephoned · 04/01/2021 19:33

I wasn’t in the mood today at all but did day 3 and really glad I did - loved the extended child’s pose too @itssquidstella!

I just can’t flow moving my legs through to a lunge in the way that she does, I sort of have to rearrange myself which is frustrating but going to stick with it

itssquidstella · 04/01/2021 19:35

@Persephoned it takes time to be able to get your leg through in one movement: I still look pretty inelegant doing it half the time 😆 Definitely one to persevere with!

parrotonmyshoulder · 04/01/2021 19:36

I really enjoyed day 3 and found the ocean breath really focusing. I remember it from another 30 Days (can’t remember which) but it’s not something that comes up often in the videos I normally choose. Not so many planks today!

I've pasted the calendar into my new bullet journal.

I also found today very relaxing - just what I needed really! I did discover I'd been doing ujai breath wrong (mouth open not closed) which took a while getting used to.

Persephoned I finally cracked the bringing the leg through during Home last year - I find it really helps if I bring my weight forward and my knee well up to my chest first while pushing up onto the fingertips of the same side hand - put together they give a bit more room to bring the foot through. Easier for those with proportionately longer arms and flexible hips, only one of which yoga will help with! But bringing the foot as far as you can and then stepping the rest of the way is totally fine.

poorbuthappy · 04/01/2021 21:10

Bloody hell again. Breathing like that plus planking equals a very dramatic rather than gentle descent to the belly. Shock

Onthebrink67 · 04/01/2021 21:11

Day 3 done and enjoyed it though I’m another one who can’t transition through the lunges like Adriene.

sycamore54321 · 04/01/2021 21:40

Just finished day 3 - and if it wasn't for this accountability thread, I wouldn't have "shown up to the mat" so thanks everyone for the incentive. I had a hectic stressful day and was hoping for an active practice and hated the breathing at first. But then it was actually exactly what I needed and I now feel great after it. I'm going to have to remember that for motivation.

I'm already pleased with how much I've improved my down dog flexibility with just three days of practice and hoping to return to the great flexibility and strength I ended last January's series with.

Lovely to see all the chat on this thread. For any newcomers feeling a little underwhelmed, I'd just say please stick with it and trust that she knows what we all need.

Enb76 · 04/01/2021 21:55

I’m late to the party but am also doing this. I do other stuff for cardio so I like Adrienne’s style, I do Cat Meffan if I’m feeling a little masochistic. I only discovered Adrienne last April in the first lockdown and am fairly surprised that I make it to the mat most days. I am looking forward to doing some actual real in-person classes when things start up again.

Sooverthemill · 04/01/2021 21:59

@sycamore54321 you did Home along with us didn't you? Well done for day 3
