Who is going to do Adriene’s 30 day programme January 2021?

I’ve done the last few years and try to do a video most days throughout the year. I like the structure of the 30 days. I think my favourite was Home as the length (short) of the videos suited what I had time for. Looking forward to seeing what’s to come.

That felt like a real strength practice to me, and although I'm not very strong, and a bit wobbly, and make horrible shapes, I felt so much stronger and bendier than just two weeks ago. It's no longer drama to hold a downward dog for a few breaths or so!

AthelstaneTheUnready · 18/01/2021 20:44

@Magnificentbeast

I struggled this morning with D17. I was feeling very tired though. I really appreciated the relaxation bit at the end. I am really glad I did it regardless.

Does anyone else struggle with cactus arms?

I do, beast - can't get my forearms all the way to the ground AND my legs to the ground on the other side at the same time. It's ok if my legs are straight, so guessing it's a non-bendy back issue.
Onthebrink67 · 18/01/2021 21:14

Was dreading this today as I was shattered but forced myself and did enjoy it as PPs have said I did begin to think I was improving and getting more supple.

I have broken both shoulders (not at the same time) so can't do it at all.

Day 17 done and for the first time I got really warm and had to remove a layer, usually I’m freezing but this felt a bit more energetic than the last couple of weeks. Still can’t get out of cobra and into plank without involving elbows and knees but I’m definitely improving. Extra inspo to get on the mat today provided by my lovely starry leggings which arrived this morning.

Tomorrow’s 39 minutes, argh.

Talisin · 18/01/2021 22:12

Actually, just sneak peaked and it’s 36:40 (and includes Crow, yikes!)

Hollybutnoivy · 19/01/2021 06:32

How do you manage to go from plank to downward dog without moving your feet??

ApolloandDaphne · 19/01/2021 06:53

I can plank to downwards dog without moving my feet. I just extend my arms and thrust my hips up and back. I can't go from plank into a lunge though. My foot only gets half way.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 19/01/2021 08:40

As Apollo says, push hips up and back. But I then have to bring my feet forward a few inches as I'm on carpet (don't have a mat), and if my feet and hands are too far apart I start sliding on the surface...

Oh dear, I've fallen behind. I've decided to skip day 16 (the breathing stuff does nothing for me) and, and then had quite a busy day yesterday and didn't manage to fit in day 17. I'm also booked in to a normal power yoga class tonight. Will try to do day 17 today, maybe lunchtime, and day 18 tomorrow, then catch up by doing days 19 & 20 together...

Sooverthemill · 19/01/2021 09:16

@Talisin it's not full crow, just having a go at the shape. It's really fine! I loved it. I'm struggling with very sick DD and I'm getting no time for myself really except my yoga. It's perfect for me

ApolloandDaphne · 19/01/2021 09:22

I couldn't get myself even into the crow shape, never mind balance there. I mostly just sat and watched Adriene with much admiration!

Enb76 · 19/01/2021 09:38

I have also fallen behind - weekends are a bugger. Did Day 17 today, may do day 18 later but have a Fartlek run to do today so may be too knackered.

drspouse · 19/01/2021 10:33

I did day 16, I quite like the breathing but sitting up straight for that long was not great for my back. I sat on a cushion which wasn't upright enough and then on my yoga block which killed my bum!
I'm missing one short one and also have 2 Pilates sessions to catch up on so I'm going to have to plan this carefully and get up extra early a couple of times I think.
So plan is:
Day 17 tomorrow (a bit of an early get up).
Pilates in the one hour when both DCs are in school and I'm not working on Thurs
Day 18 on Friday while DD watches TV I think as it's a really long one and I don't think I can drag myself out of bed that early!
Day 19 on Sat morning
Days 12 and 20 on Sunday morning.

Talisin · 19/01/2021 12:06

Glad to hear it! I find crow terrifying, the only time I properly attempted it I nearly broke my nose.

EmmaStone · 19/01/2021 14:13

Just managed Day 17. My PT set me a couple of at home workouts to do while I can't see him, and did one last night - first weights session since before Christmas. OMG, everything hurts, my bum kills, my quads kill, and my legs were constantly shaking throughout any lunges in day 17. And my planks were a bit wobbly too. Re-thinking my power yoga class tonight...

Redcrayons · 19/01/2021 17:20

Actually managed to get one foot off the ground for a couple of seconds in crow which is a huge achievement for me. When I started YWA last year, I wouldn’t even try.

I can’t get my knees into my armpits, I’m quite tall, I feel like my legs are too long. Or perhaps I’m not lifting my bum up high enough.

Nice practice today, I’m getting stronger in arms and wrists, but seem to be Wobblier in the high lunge.

Redcrayons · 19/01/2021 17:23

And also did 5 minutes of yesterday’s as I got the day mixed up. Went through the whole cat cow freestyle warm up till I realised.

Magnificentbeast · 19/01/2021 18:26

This was me @ApolloandDaphne. I get the gist of it. I'm definitely not there yet!

Enjoyed today. Although still very tired. It's a bit relentless with wfh, homeschool and my body not being used to this much yoga. Glad I did it early in the day or may have seen 36 mins and skipped it all together.

parrotonmyshoulder · 19/01/2021 19:16

I was nowhere near crow and have been able to do at at various times before. Really tight in one of my hips. Nice practice though. I enjoyed it. I’m much better this year at allowing myself the time. I used to want to rush off afterwards and get on with stuff - but life is a bit calmer for me at the moment so I’m making the most of it.

I'm up to date as of yesterday but I know I will miss tomorrow as out of the house all day. Not sure I will ever manage crow!

LillithTheLynx · 20/01/2021 08:40

Did 16 and 17 back to back yesterday, so I'm up to date and looking forward to today's practice at lunchtime.

I'm enjoying so far, although I must admit to skipping the 5 minutes chatter at the start of each lesson to save time. I fast-forwarded through most of day 15. Blush

It definitely feels like it's going somewhere and building up each pose, e.g. I'm getting deeper into those lunge-twists now. My arms are looking a bit stronger from all that planking and I can feel my six-pack under a layer of fat.Grin

Also, last night I managed to hold a sort of crow pose for 5 seconds for the first time ever! I had to put my knees on the outside to avoid pain, which is maybe cheating a bit (?) but I still balanced on two hands comfortably! I must have built some upper body strength, as I've never got close before. Very grateful to Adriene!

LillithTheLynx · 20/01/2021 08:46

I meant day 17 and 18, need more Brew

EmmaStone · 20/01/2021 09:15

Just did Day 18 before work, my legs are still killing from my HIIT workout on Monday, and very stiff. All the early part on the back made my middle back go into spasm, so I took some cat cows instead. Couldn't hold my crow for very long as legs hurt too much (and possibly because I can't hold crow for very long even in ideal circumstances Grin). Went quite quickly though. I abandoned my power yoga class idea at about 6pm last night, couldn't face it.

Day 19 looks to be quite strong, so will do tomorrow rather than today - hopefully my legs will be feeling slightly better by then [weeps].
