Who is going to do Adriene’s 30 day programme January 2021?

I’ve done the last few years and try to do a video most days throughout the year. I like the structure of the 30 days. I think my favourite was Home as the length (short) of the videos suited what I had time for. Looking forward to seeing what’s to come.

@Sooverthemill how was day 15? I can't believe we're halfway through already!

EmmaStone · 16/01/2021 11:47

Wow day 15 done already! My lower back is playing up a bit (I think it's going from up dog to down dog), so I'm trying to add on pigeon poses and other back stretchers at the end of each (short) practice, which helps. DH enjoying his YWA for bad backs, and he's finally getting a bit more mobile now.

Day 15 was quite a nice one (seem to be saying that a lot!), a bit of a flow, a bit of a twist, a bit of a hold. All good!

drspouse · 16/01/2021 11:54

I did Pilates from my local teacher today - 30mins or so though usually she's half an hour.

UnaOfStormhold · 16/01/2021 11:56

I struggled a lot with my lower back doing Home last year and discovered that I was crunching my lower back by arching it while my pelvis was tipped forward, and have since been much more careful to ensure that I get that right. Cobra is an obvious one (I don't push with my arms any more) but I also find I have to be careful even in less obvious poses like warrior 1 - bending the back knee until my pelvis is aligned and not going as deep as I used to definitely helps here.

EmmaStone · 16/01/2021 13:06

That's helpful Una, thanks for those
modifications. My lower back issue comes and goes, had it for years, and unfortunately yoga does seem to aggravate it the most, but I've got osteo exercises and just need to be consistent!! And make sure I'm engaging my core more.

Hollybutnoivy · 16/01/2021 13:34

I'm a day behind you all now as I just didn't fancy it on Thursday!

Enb76 · 16/01/2021 13:40

Loved Day 15 - it showed me how far I’ve come from last year. I surprised myself at how strong and flexible I was. Even 3 months ago and I would have found myself in a heap and having to take breaks so am really chuffed today!

Hollybutnoivy · 16/01/2021 13:56

Enb76 - that's very encouraging. I'm still at the finding everything hard stage, especially downward facing dog.

Magnificentbeast · 16/01/2021 16:03

I couldn't face day 14 (the 'long' one) on Friday so did D14 & 15 back to back today. Really enjoyed both and the time went quickly. I particularly like the side stretches.

Talisin · 16/01/2021 18:13

Too tired for yesterday's session so did day 14 today instead and it was lovely (apart from the shoulder swing thing which went on way too long). Ironically it was just what would have made me feel better yesterday had I had the energy. My upper arms and shoulders have really unlocked in the past week - I’ve had pain with bending my left arm back (in the way you do if you want to scratch your back) for ages and it’s completely gone now.

NotMyDayJob · 16/01/2021 18:49

Day 15, the shorter ones feel bloke I'm doing hardly anything as I doubled up four days this week to catch up. I enjoyed it though, am really pleased I've made it this far. It does mean I'm living in leggings

NotMyDayJob · 16/01/2021 18:50

Bloke? Like!

clary · 16/01/2021 18:55

I did day 15 this am, about 10am, and while I was doing it, so we're 4,000 others! wow!

I really enjoyed this one, loving the shoulder work.

Londt · 16/01/2021 19:54

I’m really enjoying it so far. I’ve done pilates for years and enjoy it for targeting areas but I’m finding yoga is better for an all over exercise. I’ve had aches in muscles I never knew existed.

As well as the usual, I’ve had 2 unexpected benefits from it so far. Firstly, I’m sleeping much better as I find I’m able to notice where I’m tensed or clenched and so can relax and not wake up with aches.

Secondly (and TMI), I suffer from regular sinus and chest infections and have found the sessions help to empty (sorry) out contents (sorry) which is hugely relieving.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 16/01/2021 21:40

Today was the first time since the beginning I had to give up on a pose entirely! That warrior-reach-round-for-the-opposite-leg-thing utterly defeated my leg strength, bizarrely, as they're normally my strongest bit.

Am enjoying this so much that I will probably start all over again when it finishes, to see if next time I get to this day 15 I can do a bit better with the legs.

Londt I've given up smoking recently and it does occasionally bring on a clearing lung cough Grin. Am also noticing and de-tensing all sorts of shoulders, jaws, etc during the day, and much more aware of whether my spine is slouching.

sycamore54321 · 16/01/2021 21:42

Much the same to report - day 15 complete and really enjoyed most of it. I was astonished to find myself volunteering to hold the (admittedly short) planks for an extra breath even after she released us. It's great to get to halfway. I really must now try to make it a real habit in February onwards, once the very tight structure of January is lifted.

Cherrypi · 17/01/2021 07:19

Anyone else tempted by a ywa t shirt? They have a UK supplier.

parrotonmyshoulder · 17/01/2021 07:37

I found day 15 really good. Short but stretchy and twisty in all the right places for me. I’d been out walking in the cold with a heavy rucksack and It was just right for back and shoulders.
I’m aiming to do day 16 this morning - I usually do evenings but it looks like I’m WFH all week so mornings might work.

Just noticed I did Day 16 of Home, not Breath! Oh well, it was nice!

NotMyDayJob · 17/01/2021 08:51

@cherrypi very tempted but might wait to see if I complete the 30 days on time and get it as a reward. Looks like the shop is open til the end of Feb

Sooverthemill · 17/01/2021 09:26

@Cherrypi I bought one! Been wearing it the last couple of days. £19 + postage. They are made by Rapuini and excellent quality. For my size 10 I got XS as they are men's sizes

Omg today was fab. I've been having a really tough time with my very sick daughter ( she has a chronic illness and is bed bound) and life has been getting in top of me. But today all I had to do was breath and stretch. Absolutely what I needed. I love how this series is just reminding us how to focus on ourselves.

@parrotonmyshoulder day 16 is nearly always my favourite

ApolloandDaphne · 17/01/2021 10:07

Day 16 was lovely. All about the breath. As an asthmatic I am up for anything that helps me control my breathing.

drspouse · 17/01/2021 13:04

Done day 15, also nice (and short)

Ietthemeatcake · 17/01/2021 13:41

Just did 15 and 16 back to back today. I didn't practice yesterday as my OH offered to make me breakfast, and after I'd eaten it realised I'd not done my yoga, then I just didn't fit it in the rest of the day.
I enjoyed 15, but I wasn't really feeling the just sitting and breathing of 16. Glad I did both today as if I'd only done 16 it wouldn't have felt worth getting my leggings on for! The socks were a clue I supposed a to what sort of practice it would be. I had pins and needles in my feet by the end!

DietrichandDiMaggio · 17/01/2021 13:51

I didn't start until late so have been doubling up to catch up and then was up to date by yesterday.
I hated today and just felt myself getting irritated with just breathing, and not even not much stretching. I know we are supposed to focus on the breath and I maybe wouldn't have minded the 25 minutes of breathing so much if it had been part of a longer session. I followed up with a lower back and hamstring video, so that I felt I had actually done something.
