Who is going to do Adriene’s 30 day programme January 2021?

I’ve done the last few years and try to do a video most days throughout the year. I like the structure of the 30 days. I think my favourite was Home as the length (short) of the videos suited what I had time for. Looking forward to seeing what’s to come.

Day 10 done. It was enjoyable. I love a bit of swirling and booty whacking!

Enb76 · 11/01/2021 11:09

Did 10 when I got up this morning - tree pose always leaves me feeling slightly annoyed. My foot just slips down my leg so I'm all tensed up through it. I can balance but it just frustrates me as when other people do it they look all serene and there I am in fixed in rictus

Talisin · 11/01/2021 12:16

Catching up with day 9 this morning - I’d had a couple of glasses of wine yesterday so decided a practice called Balance was probably best not attempted - and it flew past. I found warrior three quite easy until aeroplane arms on the right leg for some reason, then I toppled. I remembered to take antihistamine this morning as I remember the alternate nostril breathing from previous years and it definitely helps! Feeling all light and floaty now.

NotMyDayJob · 11/01/2021 15:54

I've caught up with days 6 and 7 today, so not so far behind. Hopefully I can do days 8 and 9 tomorrow

Venusflytart · 11/01/2021 16:50

Enb76: I have the same issue. I wonder if people who can do tree pose without slipping just have very sweaty or naturally sticky feet? I have dry and non-sticky feet and slidy leggings and always have to put a sock on!

Taswama · 11/01/2021 16:55

I did day 10 first thing. I can do a low tree and enjoy the swinging, which only Adrienne seems to do.

niceupthedance · 11/01/2021 20:18

Confession; I skipped day 8 and 9, was feeling under the weather at the weekend, might tack day 8 on to one of the shorter days.

Enjoyed day 10, did it at the end of a super stressful day and it definitely helped lift the mood.

EssentiallyDelighted · 11/01/2021 20:25

Day 9 done today. I don't get on with the single nostril breathing either, never have, even when I take my finger off my nose to change sides it stays feeling closed and I always end up sniffing, horrible.

plus3 · 11/01/2021 20:43

D10 - definitely less balance on left side, but quite enjoyed the nostril breathing (hated the fire breathing though)

UnaOfStormhold · 11/01/2021 21:06

I did have to pause the video and go and blow my nose before I could feel comfortable doing the nostril breathing yesterda.

One of the nice things about home yoga is that I can take off my leggings for tree pose - much less slippy skin on skin! Must remember that I can't do that when I get to do classes again...

Does anyone else end up with a small pile of socks next to their yoga mat? I take mine off to practice in the evening before I go to bed, and am so relaxed I keep forgetting to take them with me to the laundry basket, so they accumulate in my little yoga corner.

drspouse · 11/01/2021 21:20

I usually do mine in the morning in my pyjamas! At the moment the curtains are closed but I have to remember to tuck in my pyjama top if they aren't.

EssentiallyDelighted · 11/01/2021 21:28

I do my yoga in the middle of the living room so I'd notice if I left my socks behind -although everyone else in the house seems to shed socks randomly. I am doing mine after work and before DD needs the room for her zoom sport training at 7 every evening.

My foot stays put quite well for tree pose but I keep it fairly low. I have big calves so I put my heel next to my knee and the arch of my foot fits over the curve of my calf nicely.

Talisin · 11/01/2021 21:56

Day 10 done and I really wasn’t feeling it tonight, probably the least enjoyable session of the run so far. It wasn’t helped by the fact that my right achilles started hurting in down dog and having spent several months limping after I somehow strained it during lockdown 1, I tend to panic if it hurts at all now. I also couldn’t catch my balance in Tree and that’s usually one of my favourite poses. Oh well, tomorrow is a new day and all that!

Talisin · 11/01/2021 21:59

@UnaOfStormhold I can highly recommend a robovac as a method of training yourself not to leave a pile of socks on the floor. Mine tries to eat anything in its way - you learn fast!

AthelstaneTheUnready · 11/01/2021 22:07

I don't think I was in the right frame tonight. Didn't manage to feel I'd either 'breathed' or stretched anything properly. Also have slippy feet! Can manage with my foot arch over the curve of my knee, that seems to keep it in place.

79andnotout · 11/01/2021 22:23

Low tree worked ok here. Dp refused to go for the low tree and wobbled around on a high one whilst facing me and putting me off. I think he'd been on the port this evening so I'm not surprised.

EmmaStone · 11/01/2021 22:38

Had my normal yoga class this evening, and felt a bit more supple, and stronger in my downward dogs. However, it was quite strong, so when I eventually came to do day 10 (just now, before bed), I just wanted it to be over. Need to get back into doing it in the mornings before work, it's such a positive start to the day (and work is a bit mental at the moment, so it's good to clear my head before starting).

EmmaStone · 12/01/2021 09:29

Back on the mat less than 10 hours later Grin!Day 11 done before work this morning, liked the flows, felt more like 'normal' yoga to me. My PJs weren't the best for pigeon pose, could have done with something a bit stretchier. But brilliant to do - I had some late work to do last night, then did yoga, then answered some emails before falling asleep, waking up and checking work emails again, so using Adriene to interrupt that mindset was really helpful, and now I'm at my desk ready to take on the day...

Sooverthemill · 12/01/2021 09:34

Loved day 11, I do enjoy the flows and sleeping pigeon is so good for my hips. Perfect, one to save and do again

drspouse · 12/01/2021 09:36

I can't get my foot up to high tree, so I stepped off the mat (squishy surfaces not good for balance) and looked at a fixed point and managed the low tree (day 10 done today).

desertcoffeeyoga · 12/01/2021 09:40

If you're struggling in tree pose it might be more to do with slippery yoga leggings..took me ages to work that one out !

Enb76 · 12/01/2021 10:22

Day 11 done - I'll be doing more pigeons later as a cool down after a run and then I'm doing a plank challenge (why?) to round out the day. Today's session seems to have set me up well.

UnaOfStormhold · 12/01/2021 17:50

I do feel yoga lessons should come with a special inner thigh rough patch (BarkTM?) for easier tree poses.

KittyMcKitty · 12/01/2021 18:17

@UnaOfStormhold

I do feel yoga lessons should come with a special inner thigh rough patch (BarkTM?) for easier tree poses.
Great idea!

I struggled with foot slippage in tree for years and in the end I decided to practice the pose every day. Daily practice worked wonders and I got it. What worked for me was:
a) practice to build strength and balance
b) get foot up really high (basically right up into my groin) - any lower and it would slip.
c) anchor my heel firmly at v top of thigh and turn knee right out.
d) hold pelvic floor really tightly.

I honestly thought I’d never do it but stick with it and you’ll be amazed 😀

KittyMcKitty · 12/01/2021 18:19

^ it’s more a pulling up then pushing in with your foot
