Who is going to do Adriene’s 30 day programme January 2021?

I’ve done the last few years and try to do a video most days throughout the year. I like the structure of the 30 days. I think my favourite was Home as the length (short) of the videos suited what I had time for. Looking forward to seeing what’s to come.

Evening. Overslept this morning, and it was first day of the kids being 'back' at school, so was a rush getting them up, dressed and breakfasted and then me at work in time this morning (why is it harder for us all just getting ourselves downstairs rather than a 45min commute?!! 😂). So no time this morning, but just managed to do it now after all day staring at my screen.

I'm not a big fan of the fire breathing, it's the only thing in yoga I do that I just can't seem to get - it feels wrong, and I can't really see what it's purpose is. Thankfully it doesn't come up very often. Abs were ok, but I have a bit of a delicate lower back, and can't lower my straight legs down when doing abs exercises. So all in all, there was quite a lot I couldn't 'do' today, but I still did them.

Love the idea of doing this with your DH every evening in front of the fire! It sounds so cosy! Would love to get my family involved, but none of them are having it.

Day 6 that was intense, I had a lot of breaks. I even quite enjoyed the breathing and I normally get a bit bored during those bits. I felt really calm at the end.

I’m really struggling with my arms at the moment. I used to do some weights, but have dropped off in the last few months and I’m now really noticing the loss of strength.

@Sooverthemill Thanks so much for your post and helpful advice!

I got distracted by the American news last night and didn't come back to the thread so missed your post,

That is all so helpful, and I'm looking forward to trying her out!

Sooverthemill · 07/01/2021 19:20

@Londt I've done a little bit of Pilates online after a few 1-1 sessions in real, life. But I found this person today via a link in Red magazine and I'm going to try some of her shorter ones.

parrotonmyshoulder · 07/01/2021 19:51

I quite liked day 6. It was varied and had things I hadn’t done before. I’m not sure I’ll like my tummy muscles tomorrow though!

What are people doing when they're taking breaks or can't do a particular move? I'm still a couple of days behind but on day 4 (the one I did today) there was a move I couldn't do and I just wasn't sure what to do with myself.

Talisin · 07/01/2021 20:29

I managed most of day 6 fine but I must admit I was not up to the one armed and one legged planks today so I just stayed with basic plank there. The low boat move was one of those things where you think oh this is OK, this is fine and then you slowly start to feel it and end up willing it to end soon. I suspect I’ll definitely be feeling it in my abdominals tomorrow.

Didn’t much like fire breath - in fact I had to stop the video for a minute and go and hunt out a tissue after that.

sycamore54321 · 07/01/2021 20:29

I've just finished day 6 - i also did days 4 and 5 on the right day but I think I forgot to log in here. I quite liked 4 and 5 but absolutley hated today. I know she always does abs on 6 and core strength is my bete noir. Still with the endless breathing at the start that just made me feel lightheaded and then the challenging core poses, I feel a bit defeated now and not the upbeat way I usually feel afterwards. It definitely doesn't help that I did a random Joe Wicks with my child earlier today and it tuned out to be abs day on Joe also!

Separately - does anyone know where there is a link to the clothes she wears? I adored her leggings on day 4! I can't see anything obvious on either her site or on adidas.

I usually do either Downward Dog or Child's Pose if I can't keep up with something. Or if it's during a standing phase, I do forward fold or tree. Or just taking a break in any old way is just fine too.
Cherrypi · 07/01/2021 20:48

Ow for day 6. Definitely going to feel that tomorrow. My boobs are forever getting in the way.

Sooverthemill · 07/01/2021 20:48

@sycamore54321 I think they might be from here it's a local brand to texas

itssquidstella · 07/01/2021 21:16

I skipped the fire breath stuff at the start - I’ve done it before, both with Adriene and in real life yoga classes, me I hate it. Doesn't add anything to the practice for me.

I quite enjoyed the rest, though, and didn't think it was too challenging. The only thing I really had to focus on was my balance when I had an arm and the opposite leg extended in high plank!

EssentiallyDelighted · 07/01/2021 21:30

Well, I've watched Day 6 but am going to pass on it, I have prolapses and that strong core stuff is off-limits for me. I will do my own thing before bed to make up for it.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 07/01/2021 22:04

I found that all quite interesting, although the initial breath thing made me lightheaded as well, and I was nowhere near as fast as her! Suspect I wasn't doing it properly.

Abs not too bad but my arms are most definitely not strong enough yet to do all the planking, let alone lifting an arm up... Although I did try and got each hand up about 2" for about 2 seconds Grin

Dunraven I normally collapse into child's pose if I absolutely can't do something, but that's usually because the something has outrun my arms.

drspouse · 07/01/2021 23:23

I did the collapse today!

79andnotout · 08/01/2021 08:08

We were groaning and wheezing throughout day 6 but it went really quickly! I thought only ten minutes had passed.

The fire breath thing left us both wondering if we should do a coronavirus test as I was really short of breath and my DP couldn't stop coughing. Our dogs were very confused.

I'm enjoying this series but it does feel quite different to the other videos of hers I've done.

Sooverthemill · 08/01/2021 08:31

Day 7 was great. There was one move I've never done before so that was nice. Really stretchy and good after waking up feeling crap.

ApolloandDaphne · 08/01/2021 11:35

I enjoyed day 7 too. I loved the move which opened up the shoulder blades. I think I needed that.

Hollybutnoivy · 08/01/2021 11:44

Loved Day 7 and I am starting to feel (ever so slightly) more flexible. I loved her top too!

itssquidstella · 08/01/2021 11:53

Ooh @Sooverthemill what was the move? I went for a run this morning so I'm saving Adriene for after work; it'll be nice to stretch out after running and then teaching from an uncomfortable chair!

My Shakti mat was delivered yesterday: agony to begin with but blissful once I'd breathed through the pain (thanks, ujjayi breath!). I think it'll be a nice way to round off a yoga session.

UnaOfStormhold · 08/01/2021 12:27

If there's a particular move or type of move you struggle with then it's good to try something that works the same area - the foundations of yoga videos for a particular pose generally start off with other poses that are an easier version of the same movement or help you to prepare your body to do it, so it may be helpful to look up the relevant video.

The main pose I struggle with is cow legs so I tend to lie on my back with the legs in the cow legs position so I can start to build up the flexibility without putting any pressure on my knees.

I enjoyed day 6 in a slightly masochistic way - hard work but definitely feeling much more capable than in previous years which is satisfying.

drspouse · 08/01/2021 12:34

I felt the same about day 6, I was in the "if you've taken a rest" brigade.

Enb76 · 08/01/2021 12:55

I enjoyed day 7 too - I definitely felt it in my arms today. I love how yoga makes me use muscles that are normally left happily doing nothing.

EmmaStone · 08/01/2021 13:56

I enjoyed day 7 too, as did my shoulders. I really, really appreciated it after the first week back at work hunched over a computer screen all day. I'm loving having the time to be able to stick with the programme, lockdown's good for one thing!

Electrocute1980 · 08/01/2021 14:30

@itssquidstella I LOVE my shakti mat - so much that I got the matching pillow from DH for Christmas. It’s absolutely lush. I sometimes do a guided yoga nidra meditation on my shakti mat and always feel absolutely amazing afterwards ❤️
