Who is going to do Adriene’s 30 day programme January 2021?

I’ve done the last few years and try to do a video most days throughout the year. I like the structure of the 30 days. I think my favourite was Home as the length (short) of the videos suited what I had time for. Looking forward to seeing what’s to come.

Thanks so much @Sooverthemill

Just one last Q - does this mean you can't just google 'yoga with Adrienne' if you want to see the current YouTube batch of classes for this month?

BarelyFunctioning · 06/01/2021 20:43

And thanks so much for the links @Sooverthemill Smile

You can see all of her YouTube stuff just by looking at her channel. There’s some subscriber-only content on her FWFG site, but the YouTube monthly playlists plus the whole YouTube back catalogue are there for anyone to access.

If you want to subscribe to her YouTube channel you need to be signed into YouTube, but it’s not essential to access the content.

You can also just type ‘yoga with Adrienne breath day 5’ or whatever into your search engine and will find what you need.

Thanks @parrotonmyshoulder and @BigBadVoodooHat

I never really understood YouTube properly! (Doh... Grin)

Sooverthemill · 06/01/2021 21:10

@BarelyFunctioning Breath is one of her January specials. So each January she dies these. Last year was 'home' for example. Apart from January she has a months yoga calendar which nowadays has a theme and is a collection of an old video for each day with one new one each week. If you subscribe to her weekly emails you get all this info along with a 'love letter" from her. You can just type yoga with Adrienne into google or YouTube and her videos will come up and you can then click onto her 'channel' photo attached

If you google yoga with Adrienne ( not YouTube) you also get her website and that can lead to a calendar too which you can click through to various videos.it's really worth having a look at her channel, her website etc and having a little feel for her stuff. There are other people who do yoga ( I love yoga with kassandra too) but she does do these monthly free programs that any level can access plus foundation/ beginner and advanced stuff. Have a look. Ask questions! I e been doing her programs for 7 years now and I can't imagine starting my year or my day any other way

Ok, just finished.
I’ve never come across one hand twist downward dog before. Managed to get my left hand off the floor for a a couple of breaths but not my right hand.

Anyone else finding this quite hard compared to last year? I seem to remember Home was a lot of lying on the floor covered in blankets.

UnaOfStormhold · 06/01/2021 21:36

Ah we must have been practicing virtually simultaneously Redcrayons; I've also not long finished day 5. I found the forearm plank tough even though mercifully brief, but rather enjoyed the downward dog twist, which seems to be one of the poses my body likes. Day 8 sounds like blankets might be involved, but of course we have to get through burn to get to snuggle!

Talisin · 06/01/2021 22:01

Day 5 completed (must also have been pretty simultaneously with @Redcrayons and @UnaOfStormhold - Stardust is one of my all time faves, btw) so I am officially up to date finally! Just in time for Burn, oh joy. Mind you, day 6 always tends to be nowhere near as bad as it’s built up to be, from previous years experience.

I was relieved to find that handless downdog did not in fact require balancing on my head - as I was wildly imagining after having read some earlier posts - and was only one hand at a time, phew! I managed it as well so felt quite pleased with myself. I have now reached the point where I can feel things starting to pay off a little. I feel calmer overall and I noticed this morning I felt much looser when I first got out of bed and went downstairs whereas it usually takes me three or four minutes to limber up these days.

thisislovelyme · 06/01/2021 22:36

Missed today! Busy with DCs all day, planned to do yoga in evening then without thinking I had a couple of glasses of wine with dinner. So got to try and squeeze two in tomorrow!

WiseOwlRelaxing · 06/01/2021 23:56

I did day one and I couldn't bear it. So slow. Absolute torture. 9 minutes and 20 seconds of sitting cross legged breathingm. Another ten minutes passed with not much happening.

Will try somebody else tomorrow. She is so boring argh

drspouse · 07/01/2021 08:18

It gets faster (she says, panting after Day 5).

I guess we must all be different because I like the slow pace. It gives me time to reflect and consider myself. Maybe it depends what each individual wants to get from the experience. I felt I needed to connect with my body again and not just see myself as old and overweight. That said other days are much less slow. Day 5 was maybe short but she got into it very quickly.
Sooverthemill · 07/01/2021 08:43

I think the point of this programme is the slowing down, the breathing etc. It won't be to everyone's taste I guess but I'm enjoying it. @Redcrayons the one hand twist downward dog is one of her standards and I've definitely done it with another online yoga person ( kassandra? Five parks?) the one I hate is the hand to chest while in plank!

I enjoyed day 6 as I usually do but found it really hard holding my head off the floor while doing the not exactly crunches. Otherwise all good!

WiseOwlRelaxing · 07/01/2021 08:55

Yeh, I get that, perhaps it should be called Slow.

I'm definitely after the mind body connection and when you get that from yoga it's an amazing feeling. I get that from being able to move from one position to another.

I will just have to go back to Sean Vigue. His are amazing for mind body connection. His 25 minute conditioning power yoga for athletes is just all flow and strength and balance. You have to work up to it though. Not ready for it. But I want that feeling. I wanted to branch out a bit but ................ not getting that mind body flow feeling from Adriene.

I think she's trying to combine it with a meditation or something. Shame. I can meditate on my own (and do).

Does Vinyasa mean flow does anybody know?

Sooverthemill · 07/01/2021 09:29

@WiseOwlRelaxing yup it does, vinyasa is the flow between poses with regulated breathing ( so far as I understand)

WiseOwlRelaxing · 07/01/2021 09:32

Thank you @sooverthemill, that will help me find what I need in my searches Brew

AthelstaneTheUnready · 07/01/2021 10:12

I'm new to yoga - after getting a frozen shoulder in 2020 I started looking for shoulder/neck yoga once the pain started lessening, and found Adriene. I couldn't do most of it, natch, with only one functional arm, but the bits I could do really helped. But after another round of steroid and anaesthetic injections from the GP, I can now almost move my right arm properly again! not really

So I've started 'Breathe' and I love it. I know nothing about yoga so am happy to trust she knows exactly what she's doing, and all I have to do is follow. Unlike a PP, I quite like that it's slow (mostly) since it takes me some moments to get into position, check it's actually the right position, work out how it feels and adjust slightly... When it's a bit speedier it feels like I haven't actually arrived at any position properly, iyswim.

Interesting how some things are easy and some aren't. The one-handed downward dogs are no problem, but I can't bring my foot up into a lunge. I have short arms and just knee myself in the boobs trying.

drspouse · 07/01/2021 10:20

I either step, or move my leg out and then in again, to get into a lunge. I think I'm just built wrong!

AthelstaneTheUnready · 07/01/2021 10:42

Yeah, that's a good point. I can step up outside my arm and then move my arm to the outside.
Enb76 · 07/01/2021 11:11

Day 6

Well, that was a bit more intense! Really enjoyed today. I would not have been able to do this practice before last August when I started on my drive to get fitter but managed everything today without breaks and feel really proud of myself.

:)

79andnotout · 07/01/2021 12:02

Hi! Late to the party but me and my DP have been doing this. We do it at 9pm each night in front of the fire and it's a great way to relax before bed. We've been doing yoga for years but very intermittently so there have been a lot of creaks to iron out but feeling a bit more limber after a few days. We run and do weights etc so not looking for anything too sporty.

The only one I haven't enjoyed so far was day 3 but that's because we had dinner really late and I was too full for the poses. I've found it challenging and relaxing in equal parts so very happy.

We've been debating whether she records a whole load on the same day or not - I think she does and just changes outfits, but my boyfriend says I'm being cynical. It's what I'd do. Record a load and then have a few days off while the millions roll in...

Londt · 07/01/2021 17:54

I know this is yoga so apologies but can anyone recommend a YouTube Pilates to follow that is similar to Adriene?

I like how she explains things and would like to mix up yoga with Pilates.

Onthebrink67 · 07/01/2021 18:20

Always dread day 6 but this wasn’t too bad given my lack of stomach muscles 😃 no lunges today at least do didn’t have to feel like an baby elephant compared to Adriene’s graceful hops

poorbuthappy · 07/01/2021 18:29

Well that certainly burned....
Was a little bit sweaty afterwards!
