Very excited when the email came this morning! Is anyone else up for this?

OP posts:

Hello all, I'd like to join in and keep me on the wagon, as it were. I was pretty good last year and then got flu which threw me off completely. I never managed to get my mojo back, but my stress levels and back problems have increased over the year, and really, if I can't manage 30 minutes a day when I know it's so beneficial then I deserve them. I was seeing an osteopath for my back for ages, and once we'd worried out that dodgy biology had my hips all out of line, yoga genuinely helped and felt like a miracle cure.

I don't mind all the breathy parts. I think I need to stop thinking sometimes so it's good for me. My hands and wrists hurt yesterday, but were better today. Weirdly, despite being rather overweight, the planks were all fine.

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 03/01/2020 15:13

Day 2: discovered a complete inability to throw my leg forward into a deep squat. The dog was very unimpressed. My arms are feeling shaky now and I nearly had a little cry when we got to child pose. I'm still not convinced I'm doing much right but I've stuck at it for another day. Smile

Redcrayons · 03/01/2020 16:14

Day 2 done.

I can't get the inhale and exhale right, I'm always doing the wrong one.
Still feel good so I'll be back tomorrow.

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 03/01/2020 17:26

Mimi Weirdly, despite being rather overweight, the planks were all fine. That is impressive.

Red at least you kept breathing! Grin

Sooverthemill · 03/01/2020 18:23

@Redcrayons that comes! Don't despair. Took me ages to get it right. Usually I exhale on the effort and inhale in the relax if that makes sense

@kinky I have been doing yoga for 5 years ( wow) and I cannot get my leg forward from down dog to any kind of lunge without helping it along. I've given up worrying about it and just go with what my body can manage. Don't stress about that. Crying also is normal ( for me). My osteopath who had to clear me for this 30 day as I've recently had an injury suggested I do it in frog a full, length mirror and that really helps

Redcrayons · 03/01/2020 18:30

@soover Ah, ok that makes sense. I did Pilates a few years ago and that was the same breathing technique. Because I don’t know the poses I’m concentrating on watching and doing. I haven’t got any room in my Brain for breathing as well. 😂

Redpriestandmozart · 03/01/2020 18:40

Day 2 done, planks are not my friend, very glad for the extended child. I love the new intro, brings you right into the mood of the series.

daisychain01 · 03/01/2020 18:46

Day 2 just complete. It was quite similar to yesterday with the vinyasa flow, but very nice all the same, trying to make today's different and unique to yesterday.

@KinkyDoritowithsparkleson remember there's no right and wrong, each day will be different, as Adriene says showing up on the mat is good Smile. I always have to help my leg come through from three legged into the lunge and have given up thinking I will do it. Maybe one day ... but for now that bit of help is good enough.

MrsMigginsPie · 03/01/2020 19:17

Can I join too? I try to go to yoga once a week already and did Adriene’s 30 days of yoga last January (although took me more like 45days!)

Fast forwarded through the first 8 min of day 1 as only had 30mins and it was just chatting. Liked day 2. Can never get my leg through without helping it through with my hand!

noodlezoodle · 03/01/2020 19:49

Enjoyed Day 2, I'm always happy when there's an extended child's pose around. Wasn't expecting so many planks though!

I've been having some trouble with my back for a couple of weeks and it was bothering me in yesterday's practice, but I feel dramatically better today and I think it's definitely the yoga that's helping.

Kinky it's really normal to cry during yoga, I sometimes do and I've had various teachers say that it's very common during hip opening poses, as we apparently hold a lot of emotion in our hips. That's a bit woo for me but I do think there's something to it because I've seen it happen so often!

UnaOfStormhold · 03/01/2020 21:07

Just done days 1 and 2 to catch up - enjoying it so far though I'd have liked a little longer to extend into some of the poses on day 2. Not so much the planks of course...

One thing that I find helps hugely with moving a leg forward into a lunge is, say for moving the left leg, to lift up onto the left fingertips and shift more weight onto the right arm - gives a bit more space for the shift and means I'm not working against my body weight so much. I've never been sure if this is yoga-approved but I've just looked at day 2 again (about the 14 minute mark) and you can see Adriene lift up her hand just as she brings the leg through.

Favourite quote so far is from day 1 - "Move like you love yourself, even if you're not quite sure today."

mamapants · 03/01/2020 21:07

Well day 2 complete. Enjoyed today's, not too long at the start before getting going.
I imagine this must be quite challenging for beginners though.
Does anyone have a photo of the plan for the month. I don't want to sign up for the emails. I know someone has posted it early but its blurry for me so can't see the times.

mamapants · 03/01/2020 21:09

Actually doesn't matter the photo is loading now. Not sure what happened earlier.

UnaOfStormhold · 03/01/2020 21:27

It's quite nice to experiment on your own with breathing - just take 2-3 simple poses and just move between them in your own time. See how the movement and the poses feel on different phases of the breath, and how the breath affects how relaxed or extended you feel. You'll probably find that what works best is the breathing pattern that a yoga teacher would advise but exploring in this way has given me much more confidence to trust my body and my breath and focus less on getting the "right" breath and more on moving with my breath, if that makes sense.

sycamore54321 · 03/01/2020 21:37

And day 2 complete. I really enjoyed this one, nicely paced and while they were tough, I love the planks that were interspersed throughout.

I also very much like how there is much less waffle before the intro music and she just gets on with it.

Agree with the breathing can be hard to sequence correctly. For me, it often feels more natural to do it the other way around too.

Roll on tomorrow.

Miljea · 03/01/2020 22:06

Stupid question, but can you join anytime? Or is it 'too late' now? To do this Home session?

TabbyStar · 03/01/2020 22:16

Just jump in at any time, you can go through the days in sequence taking as long as you want, or could start on day 2 or wherever you want to. There probably is some logic to doing them in order, though I do a lot of yoga so I started today on day two as 45 mins of the first day was too much for me to fit in.

daisychain01 · 03/01/2020 22:20

It's not too late at all. There's a link upthread to register.

Alternatively if you have YouTube on your device, you could just search Adriene Yoga Home keywords and the first 2 days could come up on your feed. The nice thing about subscribing is that you get the daily email.

You can easily catch up as it's about 1hrs 15 total over the past 2 days.

Miljea · 03/01/2020 23:11

Thanks. I've watched her before (but not joined in!😊) and I think it might be a way back in to a big of flexibility!

Miljea · 03/01/2020 23:13

Bit! Of flexibility! 'Big' would be amazing. 😂

Sooverthemill · 04/01/2020 08:41

Day 3! Weirdly this felt longer than other days ( it's not) and I wish I'd used my inhaler first! But enjoyed it

KittyMcKitty · 04/01/2020 09:06

Well done Soover I’m faffing around doing nothing much this morning so just need to get myself on the mat!

OP posts:
mimiasovitch · 04/01/2020 10:20

Day three done. Enjoyed this one a lot. I'm in work from 12 on a long shift and it feels good to have made the effort to do this first. I love the way she explains things. She has a knack for describing the pose and sensations in a way that make total sense to me.

AugustRose · 04/01/2020 10:32

Hi all, I forgot to look for a thread. I'm in but already a day behind plus I'm moving house is two weeks so won't be able to do each day as it comes this time.

It's so good to get back on the mat after a month or so of not having the time.

parrotonmyshoulder · 04/01/2020 11:37

I’m a day behind already but might try and fit in two tomorrow to catch up. It’ll be harder to fit it in once back at work anyway! Pleased with the first two days. Nice to be back to it.
