Come and hang out with us here in that horrible space between endless applications, waiting and interviews.

Ooh, I'll join please 🙂 Been invited for an interview next Monday. It's a step down from my current position in a new company. But less stress, so don't mind the pay drop 🙂

CliveNextDoor · 09/10/2024 13:59

Oh @Soccermumamir that sounds good if it suits you at this stage of your life! Do share how you get on.

I've just turned down a job that I was offered as I did a practise run and it's just too far. It was a lovely job too but I don't need the commuting stress. So back to the drawing board.

OP posts:
Soccermumamir · 09/10/2024 17:30

Aww, sorry to hear that, but like you say, too much commuting can become stressful in the long run. At least you tried it, so you won't think 'what if'.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to it on Monday. I've done a similar role in the past, just looking for something less stressful. Work is really hard going at the moment. We haven't got enough staff and loads on the sick as well. I keep getting migraines 😫 I'm just hoping they can give me the hours that I'm looking for 🤞

CliveNextDoor · 11/10/2024 11:20

Migraines are the worst, poor you.

I've come across a job I'll apply for this weekend but I find the whole application and personal statement just exhausting.

Applied for a job I thought sounded great but now it’s been removed from the site and I haven’t heard back. Sigh. I wish they’d just email to say thanks but no thanks! Even though those emails suck too

Yeah I hate that. Find it quite rude.

I went to the interview on Monday, but didn't get that 'feeling' so sadly wasn't right for me. Aww well onwards and upwards so they say xx

Soccermumamir · 17/10/2024 17:53

Does anyone follow up on application? I applied for a job through indeed. It said that usually the employer responds within a day. I applied on the 1st October, it ended about a week or two a go, but it hasn't even been viewed. Do I give up and withdraw my application?

CliveNextDoor · 17/10/2024 18:01

Mine was Indeed too! I'm thinking of emailing the company directly but worried it sounds a bit desperate!

OP posts:
Soccermumamir · 17/10/2024 18:05

Yeah that's what I'm worried about. It's a role I would love and haven't seen anything else that compares to it. Wish they would just view it at least 🤦‍♀️

Ladymuck2022 · 17/10/2024 23:44

Not sure now about employer views on Indeed.

Applied to a nice 4 day week office job in a small company today at lunch-time and literally I swear in a minute of applying it turned to application viewed (green status bar as opposed to remaining blue) and I got what seemed a generic message of tell us about any transferable skills/or if you would like to share further history from the employer. Not had this happen before! Just can’t imagine an employer sitting on Indeed like that. Got to be pre-opted surely.

CliveNextDoor · 18/10/2024 14:40

Yes, I'd think so @Ladymuck2022 I'm very suspicious of Indeed now. If I spot a job on there I try to go directly to the company's website and see if it's on there to apply directly!

NamosiIslandDreamer · 18/10/2024 17:02

Hey please can I join!
This is such an uncomfortable limbo to be in!
Interview on Tuesday but it isn't a job that will help me build my career

NamosiIslandDreamer · 18/10/2024 17:03

I'm starting to do this. I have applied for quite a few jobs on indeed now and I can't say any of them have ever got back to me!

ToddlerMumma · 18/10/2024 17:15

I've just been told I didn't get the job I applied for 10 weeks ago. It was an internal sideways move as I hate my current job. Feeling very disappointed and useless now

fiddleleaffig · 18/10/2024 17:17

Sliding in....
Handed in my resignation today so guess I better find something else. I don't even know what I want do anymore (teacher but no longer want to teach)

ScottBakula · 18/10/2024 18:09

From a employer point of view.

Yes please follow up after the interview esp if you know the close date of applications or 'we will let you know by'
Send a brief polite email , your full name , the time and date you had your email and the name of the person / panel that interviewed you.
If you have applied through indeed / cv library add the reference number.

It shouldn't happen but occasionally application slip through the cracks or we were going to offer it to x but they / we changed our mind.

By all means if you see a job advertised on indeed et al email the company directly but be aware the application may go to hr / other manager / junk file black hole so try to find out who is doing the recruiting again use the job ref code on the advert

I know it's very frustrating when you dont get a reply or a 'you were unlucky ' email but for two different jobs I got over 200 applications so it's hard to reply to all .
That said if you make it to the interview stage I'd do my best to let you know by phone or email if you missed out.

Please please esp if you travel by public transport do as pp did and do at least one dry run at the time you are due to start and finish, particularly if you need to work bank holidays.

If required/ you want to add a cover letter but for the love of god please keep it short .
I do not need to know how many children you have or their names or the fact that you once went for a walk at a local beauty spot and the contents of your picnic ( yep I got that once )
Never ever slag off any previous employer
And dont include age / sex / sexual orientation / religion

I have had all of the above at some point.

Just because the ad has been taken down it doesn't mean the position is filled, often we have paused it to give us time to go through the applications.

wonderingwhatlifemeans · 18/10/2024 18:14

I'm a teacher who was made redundant in August so am now seriously job hunting. I had an interview last week and was strong in the morning tasks including teaching but did really badly in the formal interview in the afternoon. I now have interview questions I am practicing daily.

I have another school visit next week but it is a bit of a commute. Notices maybe starting to go in from Monday but then I worry why are people leaving schools so early, are they bad schools to work in!

Keep going- you will get there eventually.

Sending hugs

Auburngal · 20/10/2024 12:41

Can I join please?

Left supermarket after 17 years in various departments. 5-6 years in customer service.

Had one interview this week and got a no. This was a remote customer service role.

Think some potential employers think having so much time away from customer service roles is disadvantage for me. I refuse to work in a retail environment again.

Then a couple of positions I have applied for (one an interview next week) don’t start till Jan and early Feb! Bloody hell! I’m sure if I’m successful in either of these I would need to work in between times.

Another thing that is annoying me. On job sites, I put my limit is 20 miles distance. So why do I get job alerts for positions 40 miles away?

BCBird · 20/10/2024 12:44

Good luck to you all. I teacher who will be handing notice in this year and looking for something easier

Auburngal · 20/10/2024 12:44

Thanks for the tip about Indeed. Strange that I had nothing from jobs I have applied from.

The only interview I had was from applying via LinkedIn

Ratisshortforratthew · 20/10/2024 13:13

I’ll join. I’m freelance, so most things I apply for are short term contracts or consultancies but occasionally I put in for a full time or part time perm job if I like the sound of it. Last week I had someone approach me about a role and after an initial chat they asked for a task - told me no I lacked experience after submitting the task. I’d applied for another full time role that I didn’t hugely want but it was only a 6 month contract so would’ve taken it. interviewed but got a no from them for being overqualified! Very jarring after the previous day’s feedback. Then had interviews for a part time role which would’ve been perfect and the interviewers were incredibly positive and enthusiastic with me. I thought it was in the bag - but no, ghosted for a week then only found out I hadn’t got it after I chased. It’s so annoying.

Timetolookforanewjob · 20/10/2024 14:08

I have made the decision to start looking for a new job.
I've been in my current role for just over 5 years and it's served me well.
But I need something different.
I've got experience in a few different industries.
My initial thinking is to just start applying for anything that looks interesting, ticks the financial and location boxes and that I think I could do.
Am I being really naive? I'm of the opinion that I'll be applying online anyway so I may as well (initially) throw lots of mud at the walls and see what sticks.
I don't mind if it takes a while to find something - I'm currently bored in my role but expected to produce far more work than the hours I am paid for - it's a low level job as well.
I work in a school office which has suited me well for the hours/holidays but I no longer need the holidays.
Finally can anyone recommend any good websites for helping me to put a CV together - it's been a while since I've needed one!
Thanks

CliveNextDoor · 20/10/2024 19:02

Welcome everyone to the thread nobody wants to be on!

I spent time today applying for 3 more jobs. 1 I don't even particularly want but the hours and money I would, so I did.
