Come and hang out with us here in that horrible space between endless applications, waiting and interviews.

Job searching is hard enough @Rewis without having to waste time when the job is destined to go to an internal candidate anyway. I wish they didn't have to do that, it serves nobody.

@LeafyGreenSalad ...it's 'box ticking' at its worst, they give the agency the impression they're really interested in you so the agency, anxious to get that 'placement' put pressure on you, giving the impression it's 'in the bag' so you'll move heaven and earth to attend then...nothing.

I have a temp job offer for two terms which I have accepted. The Head was very complimentary so a foot in could be a start. Unfortunately OH want to speak to me before I start but the start day is 6th Jan and the first OH appointment is the 30th! I just hope I can still work and don't lose this job!

LeafyGreenSalad · 18/12/2024 20:11

The whole agency / HR machine is a nightmare. You're just a pawn in people's games of wanting to be seen to be doing their jobs. It costs you lots of time and emotional energy, but brings in nothing for you.

Does anybody know much about redundancy / tribunals? Trying to decide whether or not to pursue a claim and time is running out.
I have legal expenses cover which would apply and did start the process with the insurance company, but pulled out as I wasn't sure about success and didn't want to make a bad name in my industry.
The redundancy process wasn't followed well at all. There was no two-way approval, no breakdown of payment, no exit procedure, they haven't even sent my p45. And questionable about whether my job still exists as they've moved a new person into my role just going about it in a slightly different way. I had to do six handover meetings to explain the job to the new people.
I'd rather just move on and find a new job, but they've left me high and dry by only paying me £3k redundancy.
Any advice?

I’ve been job hunting and been offered something but I’m in a quandary.

I’m currently covering a mat leave that ends in March, so I started applying thinking things take time. Had hoped something more permanent might come up at end of the mat leave but it’s looking unlikely as they’re now making redundancies so I didn’t want to leave it too late to find something.

Had an interview for a fixed term contract that would be to end of 2025, part time (3 days) but a really good day rate that would mean I could either just do that, or look for something else 2 days a week or another freelance role.

They’re keen for me to start asap in the new year, I’ve asked if I might be able to drop to two days a week in mat leave role which they’re thinking about.

If I can’t, should I go for it anyway? It’d be a step up career wise and although still not permanent I’d be able to save so would have a buffer at the end of the contract.

Don’t really know what to do, recruitment usually takes ages & other applications I’ve heard nothing from at all so figured I might get stuck without anything to go to.

LeafyGreenSalad · 20/12/2024 19:53

I would go for it @Changingplace it's basically 12 months work vs 3 months work, and it being a better position seals it.

LeafyGreenSalad · 20/12/2024 20:00

I had a rejection today from a job I really wanted today. I know I could've done the job real well. So many rejections this week it's so demoralising.
The area I work in has subset specialisms, but the underpinning skills are what matters, the subject areas themselves can be picked up easily, but I can't get past recruiters who will only select candidates who have worked in this exact area.
My cv is loaded with work experience that doesn't particularly suit me, meanwhile I don't get selected for jobs which would suit me because my cv doesn't reflect that.
I'm keeping going with applications but feeling like it's insurmountable.
(Sorry for the whinge, having a bad day).

Oh sorry to hear this, I’ve felt the same way about recruiters looking for exact industry experience when the skill set is entirely the same, it’s infuriating.

I’ve had some I’ve applied for where I’ve not even been offered an interview run though I ticked absolutely every box.

Something will come up, the rejections are tough going but it will work out x

Yeah you’re right that is the sensible choice it’s just thrown me I guess because it’s all happened pretty quick and Christmas in between makes things awkward to sort out.

LeafyGreenSalad · 20/12/2024 20:32

Thank you @Changingplace that's just what I needed to hear x

Auburngal · 26/12/2024 08:03

Whilst going through the automated sent job alerts emails, I found an email dated yesterday to attend an interview tomorrow (27th). Odd that someone at a employment agency was working Christmas Day.

Good news it’s at 12pm

Bad news - need to drive into the city centre as buses are Sunday service and get sat nav out as every time I go into the city centre, roads turn from both ways to one way to bus only. May have to say a white lie to parents that email was sent on Monday and only went through the emails properly today.

CliveNextDoor · 27/12/2024 10:59

Phew, glad you spotted it! Good luck, @Auburngal and hope it works out for you.
