Come and hang out with us here in that horrible space between endless applications, waiting and interviews.

@Gcn, commiserations. There was something on LinkedIn last week about why it’s ok to dislike your job. 🤣 I’m taking comfort from it.

LeafyGreenSalad · 31/10/2024 12:11

Sorry @Gcn you've got a great attitude

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 31/10/2024 12:18

I saw a tip on SM about trying to get past the AI bots that filter out hundreds of CVs. You add keywords from the advert and repeat them over and over at the bottom of your cv, then make the font white so it’s invisible.

It gives your CV a higher chance of getting seen by an actual person.

Richardchamberlainrocks · 31/10/2024 13:24

Thank you for your kind words LeafyGreenSalad. You are so right. I will look at doing a free online course.

LeafyGreenSalad · 31/10/2024 14:10

This is quite a good website, for over 50s but relevant for all really. They sent me an article about online courses, possibly this one restless.co.uk/leisure-and-lifestyle/learning/new-skills-that-you-can-learn-from-home-and-how-to-get-started/ reminded me of places like Udemy and Coursera where I did a coding course once

LeafyGreenSalad · 31/10/2024 16:29

Just a thought @Richardchamberlainrocks since you do physical jobs, could you do a course in massage therapy, set up on your own, build your business and marketing skills while keeping one of your jobs, then you'll have new skills to take elsewhere

SoleySoley · 31/10/2024 17:47

So glad I've found this thread...been unsatisfied with my job for quite some time, now as well as discovering the company I work for are having money problems I seem to have become an 'emotional punchbag' for my more senior colleagues so I'm now embarking on a covert job search.

Richardchamberlainrocks · 31/10/2024 17:49

Food for thought and I will investigate . Thank you so much.

SoleySoley · 31/10/2024 17:52

@GingerFoxInAT0phat...sorry but I'm afraid that trick was rumbled quite some time ago, I was put wise about it when I was last job hunting a few years ago. ATS is more sophisticated than when it was first introduced. A typical article:

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 31/10/2024 18:04

Ah, ignore me then 🫣

CliveNextDoor · 01/11/2024 12:26

Welcome to the newcomers to the thread nobody wants to be on. It's so hard and depressing being in this position, especially those who are unhappy in their current roles. We get it!

Celticrosewave · 04/11/2024 14:07

Thanks @CliveNextDoor i was on this / similar thread back in 2022 as it took me a whole year to find a new job! And now I’m in this job and it’s been a mess since day 1 due to a badly executed merger 😭

No new jobs have been uploaded for several days now! If anything, I’ve seen several businesses announce closure

Soccermumamir · 04/11/2024 17:31

Well applied for that job the other day, not sure about the hours. I'll speak to them if I get an interview.
Not seen anything else to apply for yet 😒🤷‍♀️

ToddlerMumma · 04/11/2024 18:23

I applied for a 'dream' job on LinkedIn today. I got an in mail them an email saying they wanted to chat to me about my experience. They then sent me this business proposal document. I've googled the company and they say they are not an actual entity but a service provider for a number of other companies. No salary mentioned anywhere. The profiles of the people I've found look kind of fake and the whole thing doesn't ring true. Has anyone had experience of odd job adverts like this? If it's a scam, what are they going to gain?

Auburngal · 04/11/2024 21:28

@ToddlerMumma I often get e-mail alerts about these type of jobs. Just had this one and it's BS

I applied for one of these jobs in 2003 after I finished uni in Leeds. OMG I did 2.5 hours and went into offices around the Leeds city centre trying to sell plastic crap such as wind up torches. It was cringe. We went in separate directions for lunch and told to meet outside such a place just over a hour later. I didn't bother to meet back at the time.

This type of job is BS. No idea what it actually entails now. Just put the company name in Google and up comes a Gov website of the company profile. The company was dissolved in MAY! WTF is going on?

Edit - I did report the job as a scam and mentioned the dissolved status with the link

Celticrosewave · 04/11/2024 23:00

@ToddlerMumma Ive seen a few like this and sadly I fell for one. The charity “CEO” interviewed me a couple times and asked me to do some graphic design following the ‘brand guidelines’- she stole my designs and there was no job.

That role had over 100 applicants so she must have received a fair amount of free work!!

I’ve also been interviewed by a competitor just so they can try and get details from me about the company I work for. They clearly didn’t want me to work there. The interviewer stared out the window, bored while I was talking :(

CliveNextDoor · 05/11/2024 09:27

Both of those things are awful and I’m sorry they happened to you, @Celticrosewave

OP posts:
Celticrosewave · 05/11/2024 09:37

I just checked LinkedIn at that charity page and she has exactly the same role advertised again. So she’s likely getting more free work from applicants. There’s only been her that works there as it’s on Companies House statements for the last few years.

It’s very naughty!

can you report the job listing?

ProfessorInkling · 06/11/2024 11:39

I am so bored of job hunting. So bored of trying to make myself appear capable and interesting. So bored of waiting and waiting.

I've been looking for a new job for months as a) utterly miserable in current role and b) current role is fixed term and ends soon.

I'm waiting to hear back after an interview last week, I have a couple of applications in waiting for closing dates to roll around, the whole thing is so consuming isn't it?

I am so unhappy where I am. I had three weeks off with work-related stress and nothing has changed, I feel very much as though no one really cares as I am in my last few weeks whatever happens, but having to fake enthusiasm and neutrality is getting a bit much.

LeafyGreenSalad · 06/11/2024 11:45

That dead man walking feeling is awful @ProfessorInkling I had it when my redundancy drew near, and then the feeling when you leave is really weird. Just do what you're doing and put it behind you and focus on the applications. Great that you've had an interview already.

Auburngal · 06/11/2024 13:34

How on earth are you supposed to spend 35 hours a WEEK job hunting? According to JSA you should be doing this. I probably spend about a fifth of that from checking emails, filling in online forms and checking their location if company is listed on the listings.

DrRichardWebber · 06/11/2024 13:50

Agree with the feeling bored piece @ProfessorInkling

Ive just been sent another task to prepare in advance of an interview and cannot muster the enthusiasm. Why do they think we have time for these things?!

ProfessorInkling · 06/11/2024 15:46

@DrRichardWebber a dreaded task! I was so grateful when I got my last interview invite stating I didn't need to do, prepare, or bring anything. This is the way 🙌

Good luck, dig deep for that enthusiasm 💪

Celticrosewave · 06/11/2024 19:45

Reported the iffy job ad.

Not a single job to apply for this week so far :(
