Come and hang out with us here in that horrible space between endless applications, waiting and interviews.

Sometimes a foot in the door helps to get more hours, better prospects etc

I fluffed up on my STAR answers.

I got the job 😃

Now in negotiations about hours/days as it's part time. If things aren't what I'd like though I'd leave it. But yay!

Thanks for all the well wishing and good vibes

Congratulations! Hope the negotiations go well!

I handed my notice in on Tuesday, had an interview today which I think went well but I didn’t actually realise it was term time only (in the NHS) so one the pay has been pro rata’d it’s much less than my current salary.

Have applied for 7 more, had one email that I didn’t make the shortlist for - boo!

Hello everyone, I'm trying to write an ad along the lines of 'I work from home for a <business type> and am looking for more hours' to place in local sm groups. Any advice welcome. Everything I search for is for employers not wannabe employees. Thank you.

Try using Chat GPT, I’ve found it useful for either getting me started with structure, or tweaking existing bodies of text to make it more polished.

LeafyGreenSalad · 24/10/2024 20:21

Thanks for the board, I'd like to join.

I'm being made redundant, looking for two months, two interviews both rejections. Lots of applications. Really quite worried as I'm single-income, so quite stuffed.

Feel like I should be at the peak of my career but some bad decisions have left me in mediocre roles and money. Feeling a little despondent.

Hope everyone else is faring better.

Thanks Fox, I will look into that. I've picked 3 suitable local firms to write cover letters to as a starting point.

I really hear you on this, I see my similar aged friends seemingly crushing it at work but I'm way behind.

Illness, babies, etc.

Good luck, it's so disheartening but keep going.

Thank you CliveNextDoor, it's good to know there are good people in the same situation, though I hope you can find a role worthy of you.
I think you grow up expecting the work environment to be equitable and it's really not. I have a good work ethic, I want to contribute, and help others do their jobs well, yet I hear from other people all the time about senior colleagues who are incompetent asshats.

CliveNextDoor · 27/10/2024 08:33

Well that was short lived, we couldn't come to an agreement that suited me around hours/days so I've declined the job and back to the drawing board.

Hate spending my Sundays looking for jobs and applying!

Aww sorry to hear this. It obviously wasn't meant to be and there's something better round the corner. (That's what I keep telling myself as well). The job market is not very good at the moment.

DrRichardWebber · 28/10/2024 12:07

Jumping in after receiving some absolutely brutal feedback after a final stage interview with a presentation which I spent an entire week prepping for. The feedback from the interviewer was terrible. Sat in my downstairs loo crying because my DD is here on half term and I don’t want to show her I’m upset.

Sending good luck to everyone.

LeafyGreenSalad · 28/10/2024 12:17

Sorry to hear that. Giving feedback is a skill and they obviously don't have it, so bullet dodged. Honestly some people actually get off on the power trip of being horrible to job candidates. As a new grad I travelled miles away on the train just to be dismissed in 5 minutes by some girl telling me there was a typo in my CV.

Imagine how much worse the job would be, and even if you're unemployed it's not worth jumping into an awful job. The fact that you would set aside your own time for work you're not being paid for, for a company that doesn't own you says everything good about you.

CliveNextDoor · 28/10/2024 15:11

Oh @DrRichardWebber I'm sorry for you, that's a horrible feeling. @LeafyGreenSalad is right that you've dodged a bullet, who wants to work for somewhere where they can give horrible feedback?

Hope you're ok.

Ugh how depressing are these automatic responses "Due to the number of applications we receive, we will not be able to respond to all". Even for boring low paid jobs apparently there are innumerable applications.

CliveNextDoor · 28/10/2024 17:42

I hate them.

Thanks for this thread, I'd like to join 🙏🏻 currently looking for work from home jobs after having to leave teaching due to a brain tumour 😵‍💫 been on PIP and LCWRA ESA for over a year, but I'm desperate to get back into working, it just needs to be the right circumstances for me.

Applied for a job last week that ticks all the boxes, and I'm feeling so pessimistic about it 🙈

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 28/10/2024 20:20

I was also unsuccessful in my interview last week for the NHS. The pay wasn’t really enough to be honest but it still stings!

Im currently at work (residential support worker) for 2 days. Popped home for 5 minutes as I passed whilst my young person was out and absolutely broke down to my partner. The teen I look after is so violent and kicks off over every tiny thing, I’m on eggshells for the whole 48 hours. I’ve got three last shifts to do but I don’t think I can go back. I don’t eat for 48 hours whilst I’m on shift and have a constant tension headache. Would this be enough to go to Drs for stress?

DrRichardWebber · 28/10/2024 20:37

Thanks for being kind. Really appreciate the support.

I'm so sorry to read this. Sounds like an awful position to be in. I would definitely go to the doctors.

I suffer with chronic stress migraines - which is awful and I've ended up on amitriptyline.

Sounds like you need some time away. Good luck with whatever you decide. Please let us know and keep applying for new jobs.

LeafyGreenSalad · 29/10/2024 08:44

What I've found in the past with job hunting is that I never get the jobs I'm perfectly qualified for and could do standing on my head, I always end up with jobs that aren't really me or fit my skill set.

Then my CV takes me further away from who I actually am and what fits.

Anyone else?

Auburngal · 29/10/2024 09:00

I despise getting emails with the same jobs on them each day. I despise applying for jobs and get nothing in response.

I am entering my 3rd week of being unemployed, Yet it feels I have been off for longer than that as my final shift was 4 weeks ago today, yet got paid til 13th.

My last pay with my employer was 18/10 and not had a payslip or a P45. Sent an e-mail to the address for left colleagues and got an email with a reference number and check status of request by clicking on a link. This takes me to the staff pages which I don't have access anymore! How stupid!

Yes! I took my last job as it suited my needs at the time (very part time, low stress) after burnout but didn't think about how it would look to have that as the most recent item on my CV.
