Most annoying phrases heard at work

I'm on a work-related call and have just heard the dreaded 'let's double-click on that' when someone wants to discuss something in more detail. I'm having to bite my fist.....

Does anyone else want to share?

Low hanging fruit.. once I was in a meeting and one guy said it about 7 times..

DomesticShortHair · 28/03/2023 13:56

“Crocodile closest to the canoe…”

and

”Is the juice worth the squeeze?”

Tromso · 28/03/2023 13:59

Yesterday I was on a 15 minute call, during which "reach out" was said 18 times.

Twats.

Anniecott · 28/03/2023 14:08

I'm not coming in today 😂

TheChosenTwo · 28/03/2023 14:09

“We’re just going to have to dig deep.”
Translation: YOU just need to work harder while doing 5 peoples jobs at once 😂

EstherHazy · 28/03/2023 14:10

'Evergreen' (marketing)
'the learning' gets me every time (eg 'well, 'the learning from that is...')
'at the end of the day', 'it is what it is' and 'it will be what it will be'

'Acknowledgement' = something managers won't do anything about that is definitely a shit situation

whattodo1975 · 28/03/2023 14:11

"oooh a funny thing happened to me at the weekend"

Usually followed by a long rambling uninteresting story and about something unremarkable.

EstherHazy · 28/03/2023 14:12

@DomesticShortHair these are hilarious, I've thankfully not heard them before

@SpeckledlyHen hell yes, that is an ABOMINATION!

NewbiePoster · 28/03/2023 15:59

@newbie202020, “Let’s double-click on that”?! I’ve not heard that before but I too would’ve gnawed my fist clean off! That’s horrific! @Tromso my old line manager was always “reaching out” or “feeding back” or being “fed back to”. I hadn’t had issues with any of those phrases prior to encountering said manager but now all of them trigger me massively!😫😂I personally cannot abide new roles that require you to, “Hit the ground running.” A brisk jog at a push 🤣

RobinSong · 28/03/2023 16:14

“Going forward”. So glad I left the civil service and don’t have to hear it any more!

Oh, and ‘flash to bang’. That was an irritant too.

Violetparis · 28/03/2023 16:18

'Bringing your authentic self to work'.

Utter bloody twats. Massive eye roll time.

MissMarplesGoddaughter · 28/03/2023 16:26

Turning the tanker
Deep dive
Cascade.....

  • many of the above.

I'm so happy I no longer have to sit and nod when someone spouts yet another annoying phrase......

BigTedLittleTedCardboardBox · 28/03/2023 16:27

I'll speak to this. When someone speaks to a subject, or is asked to speak to that, I find myself wanting to speak to the insanity of the nonsensical grammer, and scream to it, "You sound f'in stupid!"

Low hanging fruit.. once I was in a meeting and one guy said it about 7 times..

This made me snort 😂

allaboutthatsass · 28/03/2023 17:48

"art of the possible" - said about 5 times in one meeting

"low hanging fruit" - I just think of a ball sack

"we're all in this together" - said by CEO who earns a shit ton more than us and isn't affected by any of the redundancies of course

"bring your whole self to work" - no, ta

StarsOnAMat · 28/03/2023 19:26

My manager likes to make sure all information is ‘captured’ while the rest of us say recorded. I mean, she’s not wrong but it sounds so wanky. She also ‘reaches out’ ‘going forward’…

Beaverbridge · 28/03/2023 19:31

Cascade down to your teams.
Run it up the flagpole and see who salutes.

Bananasinpjamas4567 · 28/03/2023 19:33

I always say “there we are then” when someone is being a twat. Only one of my colleagues has caught on!

Doingmybest12 · 28/03/2023 19:34

I've caught the 'going forward ' habit and spend too much time rephrasing to avoid saying or typing it.

LazJaz · 28/03/2023 19:37

”duvet chuck factor”

shudder

SwedishEdith · 28/03/2023 19:37

Let's double click on that is so bad I might start using it as a piss take for my own amusement.

Yes to "art of the possible". Fix this with no extra resources.

SpeckledlyHen · 28/03/2023 19:40

intrigued... I come from a legal technology background and have heard loads of wank, but what on earth does this mean?

Thighdentitycrisis · 28/03/2023 19:40

We once had a light hearted agenda item in team meeting on pet hate phrases. One man’s meat, and all that

MsCunk · 28/03/2023 19:41

Getting under the skin of something. Gross.
