Looking for people from the previous thread that closed as must of been full?

@Chrissols, @danblack87 - Luckily I have had a better morning; I asked Wetype some further questions about Express Scribe and they replied that it is something all typist know about (!) and have terminated my contract. Not very empathic to people pre-computers at school.

Chrissols · 12/01/2021 12:18

@Gally123 Good Grief!!! That's terrible. Sounds like a company best kept away from. Glad you didn't pay out for more systems/equipment, I have never heard of having to pay for anything like that to type for a company before.

I have never heard of Express Scribe LOL

Gally123 · 12/01/2021 12:30

@Chrissols - I got an email from the woman in charge stating that "most" home transcribers use Express scribe. I replied if that was the case, why have I been unable to find one single person? I added that they did not seem to be looking for trained medical secretaries. The person kept saying how excellent my typing tests were; I wanted to say that they obviously have younger computer-literate people who are not trained like we. I wanted to say things but did not want to lower myself to her level. It is no wonder they are a small company. As mentioned yesterday, I had a lot of doubts, but as the dictation was clear and it was my preferred specialty I was still considering it, but I think they have shown no consideration for the work force. I did thank her for her understanding and empathy though.

Gally123 · 12/01/2021 12:34

I have now had a further reply from WeType that they are not looking for trained medical secretaries, which I think sums the situation up nicely.

Poppy379 · 12/01/2021 12:34

@Gally WeType terminated your contract just because you asked a few questions?! That's ridiculous. I'm shocked.

Poppy379 · 12/01/2021 12:43

@Gally123

'I did thank her for her understanding and empathy though.'

What a brilliantly barbed bit of sarcasm - I wonder if she even realised?! So funny!

Well done you. Star

Gally123 · 12/01/2021 12:52

@Poppy379 - apparently asking questions proves you do not have the technical ability. As I mentioned, medical terminology etc is not required to work for them but computer science is.

Thank you for the gold star!

Whitestar5 · 12/01/2021 13:12

It's a sad sign of the times that medical transcription is now just considered as 'typing' as fast as possible and that anyone who can press on a keyboard can do it. It's getting the same way in the NHS with the factory-like typing pools they're now operating, taking on staff from various non-medical backgrounds, although most probably because there aren't many trained/experienced medical secretaries and transcriptionists around now for them to recruit.

Whitestar5 · 12/01/2021 13:13

@Chrissols

Good morning all. New thread is up and running ready for when this one is full, and simply named Pay with Dict8 😀
Thanks Chrissols x
Poppy379 · 12/01/2021 14:09

Would you believe I've just this second had an email from Indeed, the job search site, and one of the first jobs on the list is for WeType who, it seems, are looking for 'Experienced Medical Audio Typists' and paying £9 per hour!

Chrissols · 12/01/2021 14:29

@Poppy379 sounds very misleading that they advertise as £9 per hour, it's usually per character or as with dict8 per line, but per hour cannot be a true reflection can it. Sound a bit like Accuro in that they are the only companies that seem to need to advertise in this present climate when work is scarce, possibly bad to work for with low remuneration......

OP posts:
Gally123 · 12/01/2021 14:43

@Poppy379 - from the information I was given WeType pay per minute of dictation, and not per hour. Rates start at 55p per minute and go up depending on which system/hospital (I was supposed to be 65p per minute).

Cannot believe they are advertising when they keep telling people they have had a lot of applicants recently - obviously those applying have medical knowledge and ability like @Chrissols any myself, which is not enough for them.

danblack87 · 12/01/2021 14:56

@Gally123: Lots of gold stars for your tenacity and keeping your cool. They don't want trained medical secretaries (in specialities they are giving out??) beggars belief. Their service won't last long. I don't think computer science can beat good old fashioned training, knowledge, punctuation, etc. I think I might have 'lost it a bit' ... Cockwombles. hahahaha.

Gally123 · 12/01/2021 14:56

If I was being cynical I might suggest that asking people to do several typing tests could be a way of getting free labour - those typing tests could be actual clinic letters etc.

Gally123 · 12/01/2021 14:59

@danblack87 - thank you. Yes, you can see why they are only a small company and likely to stay that way. It was hard to bite my tongue but managed it (just).

danblack87 · 12/01/2021 15:04

The whole thing is ridiculous with this WeType thing. I might be naughty and enquire ..... EEEEeeeerrrrRRm 'NO', I can't be bothered with companies who have no respect for highly qualified and capable staff.

danblack87 · 12/01/2021 15:04

Who was it suggested WeType??

Chrissols · 12/01/2021 15:25

@danblack87 it was a new lady on here who suggested, she was started with Dict8 also, sorry I cannot remember the name

👍 thanks @Chrissols - finding this thread and having chats with other DICT8ers has been the best thing about this pandemic.

Chrissols · 13/01/2021 11:22

Just typed a 7 minute task.......4 of those minutes were notes to the PA 😡what an absolute rip off.........

OP posts:
danblack87 · 13/01/2021 12:38

@Chrissols: That is annoying. I have had a reasonable morning with only 4 small notes to the PA ... bonus.
Are you okay Chrissols otherwise?

Chrissols · 13/01/2021 12:43

@danblack87 yes all okay thanks, just find that so annoying. Very little work up to now, hopefully pick up this afternoon

Chrissols · 13/01/2021 15:20
