@meha5: My house also has almost been cleaned topped to toe. Hust the windows to do LOL
Let's hope next week is better

Chrissols · 09/01/2021 14:30

@danblack87 so do you just keep popping on to look if there is any work, I get to the point where I am afraid to leave the screen as the tasks are gone in seconds again

OP posts:
Meha5 · 09/01/2021 19:02

😂😂 @danblack87 you're living my life last thing on the list is the windows. @Chrissols I have DICT8 on my mobile when I'm away from the desk clicking on a task and run up the stairs incorporating exercise as I go 😀

Chrissols · 09/01/2021 19:38

@Meha5 so does your phone notify you when there is work there?

OP posts:
Whitestar5 · 10/01/2021 10:03

I have had an email from Accuro saying that they are recruiting again. I'm not surprised they have to actively seek transcribers if their rates of pay are so low. We can't afford to be exploited any further can we!

Chrissols · 10/01/2021 10:53

@Whitestar5 you really would think by now that there would be minimum rates in place wouldn’t you. Accuro rates are way less than government set rates of pay so not sure how they get away with it. I have tried some of their work and very often it worked out between £4 - £5 per hour!

OP posts:
Gally123 · 10/01/2021 11:01

@Whitestar5 @Chrissols there will always be people who want/need the work that will apply where anything is better than nothing. Maybe those recently retired wanting to top up their pension and as long as there are people willing to do the work at those levels there will no changes. Look at T-Pro who decreased their pay scales by quite a bit. It is a shame that minimum rates of pay do not apply to self-employed people (nor other things like holiday pay and sick pay etc) and yet we are expected to be available for work just about all the time, it feels like.

Poppy379 · 10/01/2021 11:07

@Chrissols That's a dreadful rate of pay. You saying that, I seem to remember when mulling over whether to go ahead with Accuro I did some calculations as to how it compared with Dict8. I kept records of the time I spent on random jobs along with the money I'd earn and then converted it to work out who much I would have been paid for the same job by Accuro. I remember it wasn't at all favourable - it worked out a lot less every time - and that was another thing that put me off.

Chrissols · 10/01/2021 11:11

@Gally123 yes it is all very unfair. I can accept the fact that we get no holiday/sick pay being self employed, but I really do think there should be a set minimum pay as they will be making a fortune out of us

OP posts:
Chrissols · 10/01/2021 11:16

@Poppy379 Accuro is dreadful in terms of pay, and their work takes longer as you have to fiddle about at the end of tasks saving etc, which you don’t need to do with the other companies, you just press a button and the task is gone.....accuro is time consuming to say the least

OP posts:
Gally123 · 10/01/2021 12:29

I am surprised that Accuro are recruiting if everyone else is scaling back with this new lockdown. They must have had a lot of typists leave or else they have taken on a lot of new clients who have found that maybe they charge less for their services at this time.

Meha5 · 10/01/2021 16:04

@Chrissols - no I do the same and refresh, but at least I can move around the house and not be tied to the office (bad enough in lockdown without being tied to a bloody computer in one room as well 😂makes me feel I have a bit of freedom of my own making 😂) From what I am reading sounds like DICT8 are the more straightforward company to work for, only drawback being the payment method.

Chrissols · 10/01/2021 16:10

@Meha5 cheques are a bit of a pain, but always seem to arrive very fast. I only sent my last invoice last Saturday and received my cheque on Tuesday

Has anyone had any thoughts on a new thread, this one is getting very close to its cut off point?

Hi Chrissols, I'll be looking out for the new thread, are you going to initiate it as you did this one?
Chrissols · 11/01/2021 11:29

@Whitestar5 I will do yes, last think I want to do is lose contact with everyone

Thanks, I don't want to lose contact either.

Gally123 · 11/01/2021 12:00

@Chrissols - had a disaster on my first - and possibly last day - with We Type! The Express Scribe did not work on the second - very long - letter and I had to type it without - took forever. I am now told I need to buy the full Express Scribe software, which was not mentioned previously and indeed I have pointed out in their info that they emailed me that the free one was stated to be good enough. Turns out not to be true. So rather fed up.

As I am not very technical and I do not like being given misinformation (I hesitate to say "lied to") I am not sure whether I want to work for them. The 2 letters I did this morning were clear, however. I am considering my options. I know I can claim it back on my tax, but I am not very good with software etc. I might still not be able to use it! You may have had a lucky escape!

Chrissols · 11/01/2021 12:05

@Gally123 oh that's a huge shame for you. I must say, I would be reluctant to pay for a system also, never had to with any other company, and as you quite rightly say, WeType did not say this in the beginning. I got an email to say they were not taking my application further as they had been inundated with applicants so you did really well to be offered a place with them. Was the pay rate a decent one?

OP posts:
danblack87 · 11/01/2021 12:50

@Gally123: That is a real shame about the equipment with @WeType. Yes, we can offset equipment off to tax but it is whether we can fork-out for it in the first place (I certainly would not be able to in the current situation) as we don't get the tax relief until the following year. I am not IT literate so I don't use a foot pedal with Dict8. However, I think I am requiring a new laptop ... this one for the last week or so has been ridiculously slow in firing-up, took me an hour to get things working this morning. Have had some work this morning but I am hoping this afternoon with Dict8 will improve considerably somewhat ConfusedSmile.

Chrissols · 11/01/2021 12:53

@danblack87 I have had one solitary task with Dict8 today

OP posts:
Gally123 · 11/01/2021 12:57

@danblack87 - I think there is a version that costs about £30 (It is an American software) but I might buy this and still not be able to get it to work. They should have been more open and honest in the first place, which rather puts me off. When I spoke to her on the phone she was more concerned with slagging DICT8 off than giving me any actual information. I just feel I have had a waste of a morning.

I hate getting a new laptop as they are so different; things change so much from the old one. Mine I have had for 2 or 3 years (a Dell) and is not so good as my previous one (Acer) so keep thinking I might need a new one everytime it does something odd....

danblack87 · 11/01/2021 13:50

@Gally123: I think I have had my DELL for about 2-3 years, can't remember, The first one was a good one I had for about 5 years (a private consultant bought that one though to set up the office) Something happened to the mother board?!. The second one 'DELL' - the battery died after about 2 1/2 years. This is my third AND I hate changing laptops - everything you think you know changes and it takes ages to get used to it all again. I'll keep going with this one but need to decide on the replacement I need right now. I might have to do that on a monthly payment scheme though. What a ballache Blush

Whitestar5 · 11/01/2021 13:55

I'm using an around about 10 year old tower PC, praying it keeps going strong. I do have a foot pedal though, I couldn't cope without that....and on the subject of coping, I've just eaten 6 chocolate truffles to enable me to get through a long mumbled task! Grin

xflutterbyx · 11/01/2021 14:06

@danblack87 - stupid question but have you tried clearing cookies and browsing data etc to see if that speeds things up or checked if there are updates waiting to be installed. Sorry if you already know about all this, just trying to help. Smile
