Cornell University gang rape scandal

I found this horrifying. A woman was gang raped for multiple hours, drugged and terrorised by eight men. Men who invited more than 50 others to come and rape her too. 50 other men who could have stopped it but didn't. More men raped this one woman than trans athletes exist in American universities. But the latter has provoked a major outcry and has seen hundreds of millions of dollars spent to ban them. Why isn't the focus on these rapists? And the men who knew it was happening and did nothing? Also interesting to note that this is the first mention of Cornell University and its vile handling of this on Mumsnet. They had to write essays for crying out loud. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5wyzrm0n74ro

You were the first to mention Trans. How about discussing the article without mentioning trans?

Why? The issue here is that all these posters who claim to care about women's rights - care far more about attacking trans people than they do about women being gang raped. And rapists getting away with it. That's the issue.

Do you know what I find horrifying? People like you who make statements of fact when there has been no conviction. What happened to innocent until proven guilty?

"Jane Doe's sworn statement in November of 2024 did not allege that she was drugged against her will or gang raped," Van Houten said in a statement on Monday.
"On the contrary, Jane Doe's statement described her participation in drug use and sexual conduct as voluntary, conscious, and consensual."

Have you read the article you linked to?

Your post is goady af towards trans people.

You've spent all your posts here attacking me rather than focusing on the facts which is you've ignored a horrible crime - repeated countless times across the world - in favour of focusing on trans people. The radicalisation is clear.

"attacking you"

no, just refuting your allegations against posters here

It was updated 44 minutes ago. It has been live for 21 hours. It is a story that has been reported for months. But you're all too busy pretending that Sandie Pegg is more important than stuff like this.

If it's been reported "for months" why is this the first time you've been concerned enough to post?

You realise, don't you, that "they" are using this argument to silence women? Don't be one of them.

The main reason there's been less interest here is because it didn't happen here. You really think if that had happened at a UK university, there'd be more interest in Sandie Pegg on British feminism pages? Although, again, it would be possible to be outraged about both.

How thoughtful of you to explain to a bunch of mostly UK women, many of whom work in the NHS or public sector, what is and isn't important to them.

GreyskySexRealistsky · 29/09/2026 16:14

Ah right, got you. So you've done a search across MN, seen that nobody has posted about this story that was publicised only yesterday and concluded that no one gives a toss.
Then you thought you'd come to FWR and have a go at posters here for "not caring".

This is a new low even for you.

Publicised yesterday? What on earth are you talking about? This isn't a new story. The new story is the massive worldwide backlash forcing the authorities to reopen the investigation. The story has been around for months. And none of you here gave a shit. But every single bit of news involving trans people gets posted. Or do you think attacking Elliot Page for daring to feature in a men's style interview is more worthy of your attention that this scandal? And for reference - https://www.mumsnet.com/search#/?query=%22Cornell+University%22&page=1 Unless of course you did mention it? As you wanted anyone reading to think you had.

Search | Mumsnet

YANBU to raise this awful story on here OP. And I think that the point about the minuscule number of trans athletes does add important context. You can’t move on this board for people savaging trans people for existing, but when a genuinely horrific crime against a woman is reported worldwide - crickets. You’ll be called thick and a handmaiden and all sorts though.

Just pointing out the hypocrisy here. Most people would be horrified to realise that something like this wasn't even mentioned - but obvious a trans actor looking anything less than overjoyed was worthy of comment. But that's radicalisation in action, I suppose.

Not at all. I'm pointing out that the posters here don't care at all about it compared to trans issues. It's staggering frankly.

I've mentioned it already on another thread. And online if you knew me.

The leveraging of this poor woman's story to boost trans issues (not just you, all over facebook) is repulsive. You should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself.

I must have missed that. Where's your thread, I want to read it.

These statements of yours (above, in bold) are quite a reach, and, in my opinion, a new low for your posts.

You're using someone else's traumatic experiences to take a pot shot at MN posters? Do you have nothing else going on in your life at all?

MN normally takes a very dim view of ad hominem attacks.

Absolutely. The hypocrisy is astounding. And the gaslighting when you point this out is utterly disgusting. It's reassuring to see that others see this for what it is. It is shameful.

Why? simply because the article is about a young woman being brutalised by men.
It’s about men and their total disregard for women. It’s about brutal, cruel and violent men that have absolutely no respect for women.

But you didn't think it worthy of a thread of its own? The only people who should be ashamed of themselves are those who ignore this because they're too busy attacking innocent trans people. They don't care about women's rights - they just want to be hateful.

I think you need to spell out the hypocracy you perceive - what exactly are people who use this board pretending to be or not? In what ways are they performing virtue?

You said no one mentioned it. You said there was a search function. You didn't start a good faith thread yourself.

Don't pretend. You don't give a shit about that woman.

Tallisker · 29/09/2026 16:24

But why are you posting about this on the sex & gender board? It isn’t about the conflict around sex and gender (discussion of which is what this board exists for). Have you also berated Feminism Chat for not posting about it? It’s like going onto Style & Beauty and complaining they’re not discussing Crufts.

Do you not think it interesting that you've all spent years wanging on about men in women's sports but ignored one event that includes more rapists than trans women in college sports? Of course you don't. Because you're so far gone in your radicalisation that you're beyond help.
