The Green Party and the word ‘female’

Omnicause veteran Eli Folan (who tweets as Stats for Lefties) has been elected to the Green Party’s governing council. Eli, as they tell us twice, is a ‘female’ rep. I don’t know whether this phrasing is the Green’s or is Eli’s special contribution.

What a fucking depressing poster that is, on every level.

UnaOfStormhold · Today 06:52

Depressingly not a single mention of the environment or climate change.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · Today 06:57

I think this needs to be shared widely. I voted Green occasionally in the past because of concern about the environment. I imagine a lot of people who still vote for them think they are voting for a party with the environment as its main focus. This person makes it abundantly clear that not only is it not top of the list of Green Party priorities, it's not on the list at all for him and others like him. They can whistle for my vote now.

Interesting article here. There are also a lot of Labour members thinking “oh, we’ve seen this before”

On one side there’s your dyed-in-the-wool party members — among them Liz Spencer, mother of Hannah, who first joined the Green Party when it was still called the Ecology Party, though she tells me she expects to be expelled after what she’s told me for this article. She tells me just how the party has changed in the last few months: “It’s not what the Green party used to be; nice people who wore hemp shoes. That opened the door for lots of less than nice people to enter. And no one was primed for it.”

A man is elected as a female rep, and doesn’t consider ‘women’ as a group he might want to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with.

mrshoho · Today 07:15

The only statement that makes sense in this poster are the words 'Our party has changed'.

Certainly fucking has. No mention of environmental issues, working people, pensioners, education, local services.

LuckyHazelFox · Today 07:17

Free speech and equality - for everybody except women and Jews. This is very concerning to see this being promoted right here in the UK. Useful idiots with agendas. The Green party has allowed itself to be infiltrated. R.I.P.

DabOfPistachio · Today 07:30

That reads like something out of The Onion.

Mauvish1 · Today 07:34

And "the female rep"? There's only one (who isn't actually a woman)? Out of how many reps in total?

Boiledbeetle · Today 07:45

He seems lovely.

😳

MyThreeWords · Today 07:48

I'm new to this particular person, but it's horrifying that they've elected someone who feels it ok to wang on about the 'feral Zionist press'.
I am outraged about Israel's war on Gaza and about the militarily-endorsed behaviour of settlers on the West Bank (and I normally despise the 'omnicause' insult that tries to force-team gender-critical thought with attacks on support for #
Palestine). But that person's language is clearly treating the conflict as a pantomime that exists for the purposes of their online tribalism. That's bad when applied to any issue, but exponentially worse when anti-Semitic buzzwords get thrown in.

I gave up on the Green Party years ago, but I'm genuinely shocked that a person using such hateful language online would get elected to a position of influence in the party.

wherearemypeople · Today 07:55

Are we absolutely certain it's not satire?

ArabellaScott · Today 08:00

I wonder are what point The Green Party should be proscribed.

Now that is interesting.

The faultlines are several. There is the Baggy Khan faction, the trans faction, and the old school Greens. All pulling in different directions.

My first thought too!

OhMyGoodieAunts · Today 08:06

Crazy that he doesn’t even think to mention women. As a ‘woman’.

BezMark · Today 08:06

That person's first priority is something something zionists. How about actual environmental issues affecting his local area, the wider region, the UK as a whole, Europe and then globally.

It used to be think globally act locally.

Now it's think global zionist conspiracy, act the goatally.

KittyCorncrake · Today 08:07

Had to be satire, surely!!!!
I don’t object to the word ‘female’ /we routinely refer to ‘males’ why not ‘females’?
But what an utterly ridiculous and ofious individual if this is for real.

BezMark · Today 08:09

To be fair female is not my word, but male certainly is, in that respect I'm just like matey.

I'm too scared to dye what's left of my hair, I think it would fall out in protest. It's been retreating from my forehead just like the green party has been retreating from their focus on environmental policies. Boom.

He is certainly one to be watched. I am getting Heather Herbert vibes.

Yup, I couldn't have put it better myself.

SirChenjins · Today 08:19

Is there a factory somewhere that churns out these male fruit loops? Anyone who votes Green needs to give themselves a shake - this party has nothing to do with the environment now.

BezMark · Today 08:24

I get the sads because I know a fairly well connected green here in my area.

She is great in all respects in my opinion, and I actually think a lot of her as a person and a local politician. But the GPEW is beclowning her and all the other officers and members and she does sadly seem to be signed up and fully along for the ride.
