Oh FGS this hysteria around Reform proposals is always just guess work by their critics. They put forward something and the myths are created. This thread is about an extremist in the Green party. I'm only raising my points because somebody compared Farage and Polanski. There's one real danger to biological women and that's the subject in this thread. It's not misinformation. It's perfectly true that on 17 February 2026 Reform UK Party Ltd MP Suella Braverman announced that her party planned to repeal the Equality Act 2010 on the first day of a Reform government.

We had the same sort of thing last year, thread after thread about how awful the Tories were.
If I didn't know better I'd say that some people find these threads cathartic and use them just to vent their spleen and say all the things they'd never dare say to their mother, boss, partner etc. 🙄

That policy was announced four months later. It doesn’t seem like they thought through the consequences of repealing the Equality Act just going for the sound bite then cobbling together other proposals four months later.

Yes, this. It is daft to analyse Reform's policies around the Equality Act as if they were actual coherent attepts at policy formation and social justice. The policy announcement of repealing the Equality Act just meant "Ugh DEI gone mad! Down with woke!" And then they had to look like grown-ups by rebutting some of the commonsense commentary about the consequences of repeal.

They are also quite canny about exploiting and distorting genuine concerns around women's rights to feed their right wing-agenda and appeal to right wing women. So naturally they want to reassure right wing women that undermining equality doesn't mean undermining your equality, love.

It's also a bit distasteful and alarming to see that their attempt to replicate exiting protections for women in their own speshul law is called the "Women and Motherhood Protection Act". Conjures up images of wide-hipped Aryan women fulfilling their destiny by breeding. Unfair, I know. But I don't want any fundamental statement of my rights to be yoked with the idea of motherhood.

Anyway, sorry, contributing to a derail. Want to derail further by talking about that lovely chest-puff of a word 'arrant'. Is it ever used with any word except nonsense?

Actually it isn't just linking 'woman' and 'motherhood' in the title that is alarming. It is also linking 'woman' and 'protection'. The Equality Act doesn't invoke the potentially sexist and controlling idea that women need 'protecting'. It speaks evenhandedly of preventing discrimination on the grounds of sex.

Also not wanting to derail but having given up my time to catch up on this thread, and as so often happens the whatabouterry, just want to add this.

Reform repealing the EA is part of as said by PP the whole lets just scrap the idea of equality being important because some stupid people have wrongly used or written about. Doubt most of Reform had read the EA.

The new "rights for women" have nothing what so ever to do with equality, but are to persuade women that it will not be a financial hardship to have children. This fits in with their attempt to recreate the heterosexual marriage where the woman stays at home and men go out to work. Not just regressive but in their mind essential because they know as most do that with a diminishing birth rate the UK is dependent on workers from other countries to do the essential jobs etc. So the new rights for women is actually about lets have more, proper British babies.
