'65.5% of trans respondents identify as non-binary or gender diverse, marking this as the fastest-growing segment of the trans community (up from 51% in 2019)'

'The EU LGBTIQ Survey III report presents data from 30,627 trans people (trans women, trans men and non-binary and gender diverse people), which represent 30.6% of the total sample (99,972). This is a significant rise from 20,933 trans respondents in the previous LGBTI II Survey in 2019. The increase in trans respondents is especially notable considering that overall, there were almost 40,000 fewer respondents compared to the previous survey. '

I was surprised by this. Interested to see how 'non binary' evolves.

That 'transition' is not defined.

Because all of these things - 'trans' and 'nonbinary' and 'genderfluid' are all things that cannot be observed, tested for, or falsified, or shown to be absent.

Exactly. And this is why putting into law that we must not be allowed to question anything (Conversion Bill) is so dangerous. It sidelines the need to define any of this before it is put into law. How on earth they'd test it in court is beyond me!

The survey used the word ‘trans’ as a “broad umbrella term that includes all those who are transgender, non-binary, gender variant, polygender, agender

Agender people don't have a gender identity, or "reject gender identification", so that includes a lot of gender- critical people.

Many years ago there was someone on here who identified as gender-free at work and was invited to input into the trans groups etc. I would love to know how that turned out (think threads were deleted as potentially outing).

Shit, does that mean I’m trans? 🤔😂

But how that often plays out is men wear make up and frocks, while women remove their breasts.

That's it. Heartbreaking.

1984Now · 24/07/2026 13:14

Most trans people are non binary
Aka most heterosexual people who identify as queer are bored box tickers.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/07/2026 13:50

Yes, because it’s a completely low effort way to be “special” in our attention seeking society.

backformoreofthesame · 24/07/2026 13:51

I guess I would like to see a fully none binary gender world that still knows sex exists

with the gender being neutral , you can accept that women tend to be weaker than men without meaning that women are inferior. You can start to wind back the assumptions and enable the true differences to become clearer

at the moment it seems half the world can’t separate sex from a load of irrelevant side issues which means effort is wasted, effort is diluted with one the one hand trying to explain that sex doesn’t mean that I should be paid less, then saying sex is very important for understanding sexual assault. People likE simple

I mean it’s almost in what PP is saying “oh if we get rid of gender will we lose the ability to distinguish on sex” whereas I see if we get rid of gender , sex becomes simpler and clearer and much more limited in scope / relevance / importance

Age

'Over two in three trans respondents (71.5%) are under the age of 39, making the trans sample very young. 6.8% are older than 55.

The majority of trans youth identify as non-binary (58.7% of 15-17 year olds and 64.2% of 18-24 year olds).

There are apparent age differences across gender identities. Trans men are the
youngest subgroup, with 49.3% aged 24 or under, and only 18.8% aged 40 or over. Trans women represent the oldest subgroup, with 41.8% aged 40 or more and just 22.9% aged 24 or under.

Intersex trans respondents (50.1% aged 40+) and trans people with LGR (43.3% aged 40+) have a notably older profile than the trans average. These two subgroups, along with trans women, make up the three oldest average age subgroups in the survey.'

Fascinating that “trans women” are the oldest subgroup.

backformoreofthesame · 24/07/2026 13:54

Fascinating specifically that there is a sex based difference in the numbers by age

Isn't it. I thought the fact that even the report noted the 'glaring whiteness' of trans people was also interesting.

'Only 2.5% of trans (and 2.2% cis LGBIQ) respondents identify themselves as a minority in terms of skin colour. This represents the glaring whiteness of the respondents’ population'

Because is that proportionally the same as for non LGBIQUEIRTY?

We are looking at a huge number of young girls and women identifying as 'trans/nb', and a lot of older cross dressers.

With the latter claiming they are 'less privileged' than the former.

I think many non-binary-identifying females are doing that to try to avoid being treated negatively in the workplace (ie as women)

singthing · 24/07/2026 14:06

They missed the most obvious poll option: "insufferable".

That would have been a solid 90-95%.

EmpressaurusKitty · 24/07/2026 14:08

Does anyone else remember reading something about a race, possibly a US marathon, where there were requests for the nonbinary section to be split into AFAB & AMAB for fairness?

It was very funny & I seem to remember causes great outrage.

I wonder how that is working for them? Do you think being non binary helps if they live in Saudi or Afghanistan?

My feeling about non binary is "whatever" - it won't affect vulnerable women as in prisons/shelters/rape crisis centers or stop women participating as in sports/changing rooms/toilets so whatever. It is probably the beginning of the end of the trans/gender movement.

It is kind of sweet thinking you can identify out of the straitjackets imposed on women by society - you can't you can only change society - see Saudi and Afghanistan above. but I imagine it all feels more possible for this generation who are resting on the shoulders of women who did the hard work of gaining access/votes/education/property rights etc.

backformoreofthesame · 24/07/2026 14:17

Of course it doesn’t help if you live in places even
more sexist that the uk

and it doesn’t really work in the UK either

but they want that freedom - you are basically saying they shouldn’t even try to find ways to escape the horror of being female in a male world and some are essentially belittling their choice to try and escape

I agree. I wasn't saying I agree with them. I'd much rather they stand up for themselves as women

I don't think the Afghanistan/Saudi has any any relevance to people who live in the here and now and don't believe they can make any difference in that respect, so that's not going to be a factor for them

SilenceInside · 24/07/2026 14:21

Of course they should try to escape it, but claiming a non binary identity doesn’t do that and it throws women in general under the bus. They are essentially saying that other women can be treated that way, but not me as I am not in the same category as them. it doesn’t bring about any structural change for all women, and it doesn’t even solve their individual issues as the kind of people who treat women badly due to their sex won’t care about a non binary identity.

poppsocks · 24/07/2026 14:22

parachutegirl · 24/07/2026 12:31

Why not?

We had one frequent poster here who would argue that Stonewall was wrong about their definition of trans when they realised it was inclusive of agender people Grin

Pallisers · 24/07/2026 14:23

Exactly.

Gender is a misogynist & homophobic concept that the world would be better off without & when people identify as trans, nonbinary or cis they’re reinforcing it, not rejecting it.

The ones who are actually fighting for a world where gender is recognised as sexist bollocks are the feminists.

backformoreofthesame · 24/07/2026 14:25

They are saying “well if you insist on treating women like that count me out “

I’d like to dig a little deeper as you why losing the “women “ as a gender identity seems to matter so much. if it was sex female or male and all gender none binary - would that hurt ?

if you truly believe gender is really personality why are you not all saying you are none binary in modern language ?

I think most people's honest response is 'meh'.

However, at a policy level, classing some people as 'non-binary' assumes that everyone else is 'binary', and that is not helpful.
