Hannah Spencer harassed in Manchester

Despite the fact that certain very vocal sections of this board are aggressively anti-trans and anti-Green, I'd gently suggest that this kind of confrontation and abuse is unacceptable in any civilised society, regardless of personal ideologies.

Perhaps the saddest irony here is that these male bigots claim to be protecting women's rights whilst trying to attack a woman MP. On International Women's Day.

I'd be curious to see how other MNetters feel about this situation...

Green Party say 'Hannah Spencer won't be silenced' after Manchester violence

Hannah Spencer, Gorton and Denton's newly-elected MP, was ushered into a police car amid the unfolding chaos

Good job OP started this thread!

Absolutely! It's been... enlightening. Many posters have obligingly outed themselves here.

As have you. When are you going to condemn the male Unison officer who punched a woman clear in the face?

ThatBlackCat · 10/03/2026 10:21

So your definition of women does not include transwomen then? Please clarify if that's what you're saying?

We need to look at the exact words.

"No, my definition of women does not include men pretending to be women.
No, that is not the type of woman who is marginalised."

The poster evidently believes that transwomen are not men pretending to be women, but in fact are women, and that transwomen are the type of women who are marginalised.

ThatBlackCat · 10/03/2026 10:29

So will you condemn Ameen Hadi, @MissScarletInTheBedroom ?

Over on Reddit, this is what the TRAs are planning for Alice Sullivan.

Hi everyone, I am a researcher at one of the European universities. Prof. Alice Sullivan was invited to speak at one of the events. My colleagues and I are planning to do a protest during her visit.
We want to focus on three things:

  1. low quality of her academic/policy work,
  2. her problematic connections to organizations such as Sex Matters, and
  3. how she and her work have impacted trans folks in the UK.
We are already printing out her problematic tweets, mistakes in the Sullivan's Review for the UK government. Please, if you can, provide more information on other works of hers that are low-quality or problematic, why Sex Matters is hugely problematic, and, if you feel like it, your personal experience on how Sullivan/ her report/ Sex Matters/ the discourse around it has impacted your life as trans folks. We, of course, are doing our own research, but I thought this was a good place to ask, since my colleagues and I are mainly not from the UK and do not know the context well.

We plan to make her feel as unwelcome as it is possible!

Ah, here they go again with "trans folks", a description chosen to make them sound a bit ditsy and harmless.

Yes. Those words were of a true believer and one who has a personal definition of ‘woman’ that they then attempted to convince us was universal. When it most certainly is not.

So instead of clear and direct answers they engaged in fuckwittery and took the position that anyone who sought clarification was ‘dim’ or hateful (can’t remember the words used). If someone’s beliefs rely on their subjective reality being treated as if it is the material reality, I guess they have to use linguistic manipulation to justify it.

If they actually engaged rather than took pop shots and spread misinformation under the guise of being well informed, maybe people would have engaged in return. I don’t believe they have landed any point with evidence, but really felt that that achieved massively.

This sudden rash of posts across a number of threads suggests that Emily Thornbury's diary is unexpectedly blank.

But they're a bit coy on the topic.

Lots of aren’t I clever witticisms and references suggestive of a gender studies academic. Though granted, no Butler citations as yet I think. And quite a few digs about pitchforks. What’s missing, however, is clarity of what exactly they do believe in this discussion.

Also missing is a justification or explanation of their position. Though I don’t believe there have been many TRAs who have remained around to do so apart from bekind/you’re mean and one or two trying to argue on the basis of clownfish/DSDs/Sex variation in other animals.

But ^^ their ‘definition’ of woman is not one based on the courage of their convictions.

I always hear "Volk" & am never surprised that the association has not occurred to them.

Sorry if this has already been posted but when I watched Edge of the Matrix I only heard someone telling Steve about it. Here is the moment the Unison rep hit a woman in the face - captured on camera - what a charming fellow! Happy IWD everyone!

Of course, this pitchforks and brand-waving clamour has rather derailed the thread, which presumably was the intention in the first place by the usual suspects here, but it has at least been instructive that it has provided a neatly clear picture about the political ideologies that are core to this forum.

Maybe the online magazine Jezebel was right when they said MN "has become a toxic breeding ground for transphobia"...? 🤔

😂mate you are funny.

Shortshriftandlethal · 11/03/2026 07:53

Has this violent man answered for his actions yet, and has his union been notified?
