It doesn't matter what your politics are, punching someone in the face isn't lawful.

Yet it seems to be acceptable if the person you are punching in the face is a woman and you are on the left.

I don't care how respected you are, if you are a man and you punch a woman in the face you lose that respect.

A single punch can kill men. Women are even more likely to die from a single punch. That's why it's not lawful.

Your reputation shouldn't come in to it. "Oh well he was a good bloke but he's being smeared by the right for being a paedo" shouldn't be used ever to mitigate - precisely because it's a method to get away with shit. The same applies. It's a safeguarding issue.

I watched the footage. There was a lot of general pushing and shoving and aggression going on, and AH was at the receiving end of some it if himself.

However, he clearly loses control and launches himself at the woman [sorry I don't know her name] and appears to hit her twice.

There may be some mitigation - he too was pushed and shoved and thumped and appears not to have started the whole thing - but that's not an excuse and the idea of making some kind of martyr out of him being 'now under attack from the right' when there's incontrovertible evidence that he hit a woman is... shocking-not-shocking.

Violence against women is violence against women full stop.

I wouldn't want anyone to send them anything abusive, but they deserve some short, polite, restrained messages saying 'Violence against women is always wrong, even when the perpetrator is Ameen Hadi'

Well i really do hope hes investigated by the police because not only did he assault a woman he also tried to steal her phone so thats an attempted mugging with violence.
Whoever put that petition together clearly hasn't watched the video footage of the incident as it shows him trying to take her phone and when he couldn't rest it from her grip he punched her

You're possibly being over-generous: they possibly did watch the video, but concluded she was obviously a right-wing bigot, and violence against women like that is not just acceptable, it's heroic.
