On Saturday 11th April, at 1pm there will be One Year Later protests in six different locations:

London - Parliament Square
Edinburgh - Scottish Parliament
Cardiff - Central Square
Manchester - St Peter's Square
Plymouth - Hoe Park, Smeaton's Tower
Houghton Le Spring - Brigete Philipson's Office, Newbottle Street

The protests follow on from the 199 Days Later protests in November 2025 and the different locations will be a mix of speeches, protests and street terfing (London is a march and speeches). It's been almost a year since the Supreme Court Ruling, if you can, please attend a protest and let the government know that their inaction is unacceptable, unlawful and puts women and girls at risk.

Further info will be available on X @acts_grassroots

Such a good choice of places to go. Can't believe virtually nothing has happened a year on. So sick of this. See you there!

Fimofriend · 04/03/2026 13:26

Well done! Have you contacted the press to let them know this will happen?

We contact the press several times before an event, sometimes to no avail as is the nature of the beast. 199 had some good press coverage though. If they get wind of someone recognisable attending - then they will be along.

Work is still ongoing to secure more speakers, but we already have some amazing ones lined up. Please share the events to your contacts and via socials.

It'll be 1pm for a couple of hours max, then pub afterwards. Interestingly, Smeaton's Tower in Hoe Park was the site of a failed suffragette plot (1913). Pankhurst, amongst others were arrested in Plymouth at the same time.

I don't think there will be any speeches in Plymouth, but they will be having a protest (so bring your banners) and will be handing out leaflets - which is also what the suffragettes did in 1913.

Smeaton's Tower is recognized as a key site of suffragette protest in the South West of England. In 2018, as part of the centenary celebrations of the first women's votes, Historic England highlighted this incident and added it to the heritage list as a recognized site of protest and sabotage. The tower continues to be a notable landmark in Plymouth, representing the militant actions taken to fight for women's suffrage

Wishing for a great and sunny day for these gatherings.

The organisers of are @actsgrassroots on X. You'll find more info if you google our last demo on Nov 1st - #199DaysLater. There are other groups (in collaboration with acts_grassroots) organising Cardiff, Edinburgh and Plymouth. I could give you our individual names - but you won't know any of us - we are just a group of determined, pissed off women.

Anyone going to the London protest?

DustyWindowsills · 05/03/2026 11:12

How long are the events in London likely to go on for? I'm going to be in London that day, but busy around 1.00. 😬

There is a march and then speeches - then pub of course! I imagine by 3, it'll be time for a drink!

I'm already double-booked for that Saturday or I'd be at the London one.

Hope the anti-women counter-protesting blue-hairs have better drummers than those at the Southwark gym; let's just say it wasn't exactly Something In The Air Tonight, or the opening to Refuse/Resist by Sepultura...

Thanks! 👍🏻 Knowing my luck, I'll be busy right up until 3.00, but I'll try to get along there for the very end of it.

The last one I went to was 2 hours in total. Very strict due to police liaison. The policing was fab too! The transactivists met in a square nearby and when they tried to march towards the women's rally the police said no stay there and didn't let them go for the entire time. We were able to match and listen to the speeches.

The police were fab. We did have to hurry clearing up, because the police had told us they were having to release the trans activists. We have the same wonderful woman doing police liaison for April, so I expect they will be on form again. Unfortunately, Cardiff Police did not fair so well last time, they even showed up in a Pride painted van. Since Nov 1st, the determined women of Wales have had a meeting with the police, so they've got no excuse this time.

I seem to recall hearing someone say we need to be quick they are going to release the Tr**ns! (Not sure if this word is allowed?)

WearyLady · 14/03/2026 10:39

Is anyone going from Brighton to the event in London? I’m looking for company.

Edited

There is an ‘all women’ feminists group in Plymouth that have called for a Resistance day on that date. The Queer/Trans combi is very loud there. Just heads up, although I imagine you have already considered this eventuality.

Will checkout the groups on social media. i’m more in the camp of pissed off women than on the poor men with women feelings.

Thank for the info, we'll pass it onto the police. We are expecting counter protests in each location - except maybe Houghton Le Spring. The Met and Greater Manchester have been fab at recent demos, the Scottish police are learning and the Welsh women have had a meeting with their force.

Been following this with interest, will at the Manchester one. As it's only down the road, but be rude not to!

Olderbadger1 · 05/04/2026 00:41

I'll be at the Cardiff protest. Welsh Govt is totally captured and the likely ascent of Plaid and the Greens at the upcoming elections will push us further back in the fight for single-sex spaces. Women just don't matter do they!

Not exactly making an effort to do out reach.

X one of the least used platforms which can be acessed by nitter which no one has ever heard of ..... Shock

But really think women's groups should be encouraged to join MN and then without having to ever take part in a discussion, each can start a thread about forthcoming event, provide updates, wont have to pay a penny, and CAN BE READ by those who are not signed up. Confused

moto748e · 05/04/2026 10:13

Agreed, it's not easy to find out info, having to faff around with nitter, etc. I knew about this cos I'm on the SM mailing list, but if you aren't...

Just so strange. I now I have posted about this before, but cant understand going to the bother of organising something like this.

But maybe it is just a day out for friends.

And now that I have thought it, really do thinks groups like this who are somehoe enraptured by TwiX could so easily just have a thread on FWR and update as an when.

And not only is it free it can be read with out having to subscribe!
