On Saturday 11th April, at 1pm there will be One Year Later protests in six different locations:

London - Parliament Square
Edinburgh - Scottish Parliament
Cardiff - Central Square
Manchester - St Peter's Square
Plymouth - Hoe Park, Smeaton's Tower
Houghton Le Spring - Brigete Philipson's Office, Newbottle Street

The protests follow on from the 199 Days Later protests in November 2025 and the different locations will be a mix of speeches, protests and street terfing (London is a march and speeches). It's been almost a year since the Supreme Court Ruling, if you can, please attend a protest and let the government know that their inaction is unacceptable, unlawful and puts women and girls at risk.

Further info will be available on X @acts_grassroots

I’m in WRN and very often things will be shared with the request to share to trusted groups only - I assume for fear of TRA violence. Mumsnet does get a fair few TRAs so that might put groups off sharing (though agree that the counter demonstrators always know anyway).

KnottyAuty · 06/04/2026 08:30

For Westminster can I suggest people attend prepared to sing? There are protests there every day of the week and those in the immediate area find it wearing. The farmers with the tractors did raise some smiles with Baby Shark blaring off the horns but it was still a lot. Anyway the noise is so regular that it gets filtered out/ignored as much as possible …. Singing and beautiful noises on the other hand would be better received… more flies with honey and all that… can people post the words/music to songs here? For Womens Rights are Human Rights etc?

Seriously, if that was the case why was it posted on twitter.

This "excuse" is always being rolled out.

In the end it comes down to are you running a campaign and hope to get as much support as possible, or are you running a day out for friends to the share the after glo of having a day out with each other!

Seriestwo · 06/04/2026 22:15

I have tickets for the FWS panel which is on the same time As the rally in Edinburgh. I think I’m surprised another rally is organised at the same time. It seems a bit undermining of them but I assume whoever organises the rally has spoken to fws

moto748e · 06/04/2026 22:28

Well the timing is the point, but it's not just about Scotland, is it? Of course it's shame if it reduces numbers in Edinburgh.

Whatthechicken · 07/04/2026 15:45

There are now 11 locations, including Northern Ireland, Dusseldorf, Berlin, Paris and Vienna in solidarity...hardly a day out for friends. We are a very small organising team with no funding, we self-fund and then people chip-in to cover any very small costs. X works for us because those that have to be anon can be. FB, Insta and other platforms are not suitable for some of us..schools, work, employment. We are all volunteers. I also posted on here well in advance as have Women Won't Wheesht.

Its a complete myth about not being able to use facebook!

Of course you can.

If you want to stay of a social media platform that is actually being boycotted by feminists and feminists groups and can NOT be read by people who are not signed up that it your choice.

And posting that there are events in all these other places and not provide details, how do you find out where to go.

If the text is already typed up somewhere why cant you post it here on FWR. Nobody is here under their own name.

Its sounds like all the really strange rules that WRN has.

I'm not meaning this to be a personal attack, but can you not understand how mystifying this is.

You say you want women to join in, but you dont want to tell them how ... Confused

Thanks for all your efforts organising this. I went to the 199 days demo and will be at Saturday's too. I've had the info via WRN, Sex Matters, X and, now, MN too. Surely nearly all Terfy women will be getting info from at least one of those sources? (I would rather sit on rusty nails than go back on Facebook btw)

Seriestwo · 07/04/2026 21:23

I’m wary of going to a gathering that I don’t know
wjo organised it. It’s hard to trust anonymous groups

Seconded.
The 199 Days demo was, despite our legitimate anger and frustration, a joyous occasion. The organisers are grassroots women, giving up their time to organise this. All on a shoestring. I don't know them but I recognise them from being to many events.
They have my heartfelt thanks and appreciation.
Looking forward to being in London.

Whatthechicken · 08/04/2026 01:06

Thanks all for your nice comments. We've all worked so hard on this, and because of the many locations - there has been so much more information to gather, handle and coordinate. I even joined a German speaking X space!! They managed to find out about us! Also, the organisers are split over several locations this time - so it's been a big effort and worry! The big accounts have really helped with the sharing too, so hoping for big turnouts. If anyone is concerned about showing up on their own, drop the X account a DM (of course we will do some due diligence), but we will try get some people to meet you.

And for those that are still wary, because they don't know who we are...we aren't generally interested in being known, we just want the gov to get on with it after the fantastic FWS win last year. We let the speakers in their expert areas do the talking for us, such as Maya, Julia Long, Joanna Cherry, Emma Hilton, Tracy Edwards etc. we just arrange a time, place and the logistics. If we are still not for you, then that's fine, I hope you find an event that suits you - or you could create your own and we will support you! But we are going to have a great time on Saturday, reminding Bridget to get on with it!!

@Whatthechicken Thank you for all your efforts, they're much appreciated.

I went to the London 199 Days March and it was brilliantly organised, the TRAs were kept well away from us (in fact we hardly saw them because some coaches parked in front of them Grin ) and everyone was very friendly. Although I was with a group we got chatting to lots of other people so I wouldn't worry about joining alone. We gathered in Parliament Square, marched, had some speeches, sang and then everyone went home/to the pub.

And the Met Police - who get a lot of criticism (and sometimes rightly so) - were very good.

Been following this with interest, will at the Manchester one. As it's only down the road, but be rude not to!

I’ll be there!

StellaAndCrow · 08/04/2026 11:35

Crikey, I wondered why Houghton-le-Spring was on the list - it’s Bridget Phillipson’s constituency?

That makes her refusal to implement the law even worse.

I used to work there - it’s such a deprived area, even compared to the rest of the Sunderland area. Ex-mining area, history of multi-generational unemployment

The sort of place where women are likely to be particularly vulnerable, to have suffered trauma/DV, and to need single-sex spaces.

So it can’t be that Bridget Phillipson doesn’t understand the need for single-sex spaces.

Honestly, I’m disgusted that she’s pandering to all these privileged men.

borntobequiet · 09/04/2026 08:29

I would love to go, but my knees won’t let me - waiting on replacements. Wishing you a great day.

lanadelgrey · 09/04/2026 11:07

Don’t worry about going - the organisers are lowkey and as far as I could tell from 199 days are happy to organise without any other overtly political agenda. A true idea of an umbrella under which sex realist women can gather. I’m going!

ProfDrLapwing · 09/04/2026 13:42

I didn’t know about the Smeatons Tower suffragette plot or that Plymouth played such role in the movement.

I’m sorry I can’t be there on Saturday but wish you good luck for the day.

MassiveWordSalad · 09/04/2026 14:26

I really wish I could be there! I hope it goes well and thanks for organising 💜🤍💚
