Come in. Yes, you’re in the right place. No, you don’t need to explain yourself.

Coats will be drycleaned before you depart. Bags won't be stolen because Gubbins will play her triangle. And you really don't want to hear it.

The gerbils run the bar.
They are small, brisk, and unionised.
One is polishing a glass with unnecessary seriousness.
Another is keeping the tab and will remember what you ordered last time.
There is a triangle involved. No one knows why. It keeps Gubbins happy.

Sit. Think. Drink. Join in.

The gerbils have it from here.

I’ll believe you

Yes, yes and yes, Olderbadger1!
You must be related to our doctor, Dr Bessie Badger? Any relative of Bessie is particularly welcome here😄

Oh bless you MarieDeGournay - thank you so much. I feel shed-loads better already although the quokka has eaten several of the mini-rolls which wasn't the plan TBH. I'm not related to the good doctor I don't think - but my memory is shot so it's always possible.

Can I come in? I have thick gloves on but do I need any other protection against the teeth of them gerbils ? Past trauma you know

The gerbils are fine, it's dwarf rabbits you need to watch out for. Bitey little psychopaths, IME. But we don't have any in the Bluestocking, so you're safe.

midgetastic · 06/02/2026 23:57

Biting things have a nasty habit of finding me

you can use me as bait

No, no, we wouldn’t ask that of anyone we’d welcomed into The Bluestocking. As long as they qualified to be in here rather than, say, The Staunch Ally - which is for men.

Even then I think a polite request to leave delivered by the bouncer at our door would be preferable. Is Clifford Capybara on tonight?

ErrolTheDragon · 07/02/2026 00:16

Ah, here you are. I’ll just sit here and ….
😴

Hedgehogforshort · 07/02/2026 00:20

oooooooooooo

Britinme · 07/02/2026 03:29

I had the metal bit of an implant put in my mouth yesterday so I’m glad that crunchy snacks are virtual in the Bluestocking as I’m not allowed them for a week or so while the stitches heal up. I only wish the dentist’s bill was virtual too. Ouch.

EmpressaurusKitty · 07/02/2026 05:19

Hello!

I’d like a cider, please. I’m going to curl up in an armchair & get on with this cat blanket.

Hi @TinselAngel!

<peeps around the door> Morning All - I know its early but I have been on my travels and the old body clock is still a bit haywire. Any gerbils about? I'd love a hot chocolate.

DeanElderberry · 07/02/2026 09:06

gerbils are always ready to oblige but Bing is slow.

Phew just made it.

I am making a jumper. It's not a project I can do while watching TV or chatting so thankfully I have a mindless pair of socks on the go too. I've never followed a clothing pattern before and it's a little tricky.

I will need good service from the bar gerbils to keep me going.

midgetastic · 07/02/2026 09:11

I believe this is a simple biological pub by which definition I am clearly female

I like simple easy to understand logic

I also
like the large vodkas that doesn’t leave a sleepless night and hangover too. What’s for breakfast ?

DeanElderberry · 07/02/2026 09:13

That looks nice but a little small, so I'll try again, sorry planet

DeanElderberry · 07/02/2026 09:15

Breakfast you say? With luck the gerbils are sufficiently distracted by hot drinks to leave the quokkas in charge

BrewBrewBrew
ugh… I did my bad trick of dozing off while doing a crossword, waking up and then not getting back to sleep till about 1:30, then waking up far too early with a runny nose (I think some sort of allergy rather than a cold but really can’t tell) and not being able to get back to sleep. I’ve had my normal two teas and a coffee already. And it’s wet here again but I could really do with some fresh air.Hmm

I’ll just sit in the corner grumpily for a while.

Forgot to add my project pic.

Tiddles could do with that, she's recently done her trick of feeling neurotic about something and losing at lot of the fur on her belly, not the best look for a white-skinned black-furred cat.

Very clever to be knitting something you appear to be already wearing...

Dry here for now, so the garden beckons.

MyrtleLion · 07/02/2026 10:21

I have lost the remote control for the TV speaker.

It's not even in my handbag, so I don't know where it is.

Obviously I can stand up, walk over to the TV and turn it on. And three of the other remote controls can turn the volume up and down. And it's plugged into a smart plug that automatically turns it off when we go to bed. But only one remote control can turn it on.

There may have been strong drink taken yesterday...

So checking in this morning I find our numbers increased by Midge, Tinsel and OB1 - lovely to have new faces.
And new past traumas - Midge, relax, we can guarantee that the gerbils are all impeccably behaved, you really don't need those gloves - don't they make handling large vodkas and coke a bit awkward? We can serve them in MN mugs if that helpsBrew😄
[which reminds me of a joke involving a fainting nun, a pub and a helpful passer-by. Anybody know it already?]

midgetastic · 07/02/2026 10:37

if that were me - either down the side of a chair, under my heap of blankets or right in front of your nose on the TV stand

Oh dear😮
Have you tried the fridge?
Not that I've ever done anything like that ever😏
Hope it turns up soon cos it'll drive you crazy until it does, won't it?😠

MyrtleLion · 07/02/2026 11:02

It's not under the sofa or armchair - I have literally lifted them up to look. It's not next to the TV. It is probably not in the fridge as that's on a different floor but I will look just in case.

We don't have heaps of blankets so it's not under there. It's not in the carry baskets that I have recently bought to make the living room tidy. It's not on my desk or on the side unit where we make the drinks.

I am grateful for all suggestions.
