FFS !!!

dementedpixie · 16/01/2026 22:07

Do they not pride themselves as being all female with female musicians as well as the cast?

Yes, they did …

Runnersandtoms · 16/01/2026 22:08

🤮

RhannionKPSS · 16/01/2026 22:08

I saw it when it premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe and enjoyed it more than I thought I would tbh.

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 16/01/2026 22:09

Nooooooooooooo....
Wtaf???!?

lurcherlover · 16/01/2026 22:09

The original AB was executed because she failed to produce a baby with a penis. The Tudors were in no doubt at all that sex was a biological concept and all six Queens were at Henry’s mercy as a result of their biology and nothing else. Women could not identify out of their oppression and no man would have wanted to adopt it. This is really disrespectful to the memories of those women.

I do note that they have turned off comments under the post I screenshot. Wonder why!

I was there for the CUMTS show in 2017 too. It's amazing how little has changed. I loved it then but it has exceeded my expectations even so.

The show is an enormous challenge vocally, lots of the queens struggle with the belting for so many shows a week- I don't know if DM has the vocals for it.

I've seen this show, it's fantastic. But I would rather stick pins in my eyes than see it with this person in it.

Just to qualify- DM's vocal abilities are not the main reason I'm questioning his casting.

SabrinaThwaite · 16/01/2026 22:28

Maybe you haven’t looked at the writers of Six?

Here’s Toby Marlow for reference.

Well if his performance in this is as “good” as it was in Buccaneers I doubt he’ll be in it for long!

CarefullyCuratedFurniture · 16/01/2026 22:33

The writers of Six apparently thought they were being all new and original by including gay and queer people in their show...because those people are so marginalised in the theatre and there are very few gay and queer people working in the performing arts.

Could someone please help me rescue my eyeballs, they appear to have rolled out of my actual head.

DorotheaDiamond · 16/01/2026 22:35

I’m surprised it’s taken them this long - I know a casting agent who told me 2/3 years ago that they were actively looking for a transwoman…I love(d) that show :-(

I thought that was the case, but Wikipedia says they wanted a "predominantly female and non binary cast"
Toby Marlow is non binary.

Which all seems a little silly. The reason the Six wives were treated so badly was precisely because they were female.

The beheading may be worth it

brieandcrackers · 16/01/2026 22:50

Good for her! I’m seeing it later this year (in the UK), really loved Hamilton so looking forward to another historical musical.

Definitely had a bloke playing one of the queens when I saw it.

PennyLaneisinmyheartandmysoul · 16/01/2026 22:52

Just why? What the actual madness!

The beheading may be worth it

Ann Boleyn isn’t actively beheaded in the show. The entire show is about the wives telling each of their stories - women who never had a voice at the time being humanised as really people.

I’ve seen it a few times and although all the wives are equal and all have very valid stories to tell AB has the best song and is portrayed as the sassiest one and the one who pushes back most against the patriarchy (yes I know Ann of Cleves actually achieves this) and the one most young girls relate to and look up to (my daughters did on seeing it, anyway)

So I’m completely unsurprised that this is the role that people who are determined to undermine female individuality would go after.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 16/01/2026 22:59

It's a good show. Casting DM is not going to enhance it. Quite the opposite.

FWIW I think we are going to see trans women in random roles popping up over the place this year as some sort of adolescent two fingers to Trump.

Trans men not so much, not so .... visual.
