Seething.

Though very good PR for the show says my cynical self.

Datun · 17/01/2026 00:36

I had heard that it was a good show. And I'm sure it is.

I'm equally sure Mulvaney's run will be short.

I was there for the CUMTS show in 2017 too. It's amazing how little has changed. I loved it then but it has exceeded my expectations even so.

The show is an enormous challenge vocally, lots of the queens struggle with the belting for so many shows a week- I don't know if DM has the vocals for it.

I don't care if this man, Dylan Mulvaney has the vocals of Maria Callas and Luciano Pavarotti combined...he is a man and an activist man at that.

No-one born of a woman should go and see this and hopefully the Curse of Budweiser will shut it down.

BeeHive909 · 17/01/2026 00:44

Great so a man is going to play a female role. One of my favourite musicals aswell but I sure wouldn’t pay a penny to see it with that fake in it now.

Alpacajigsaw · 17/01/2026 00:13

Oh no! I’d be fucking gutted.

I am! And I wouldn't mind we are travelling to London for it. Its costing me a fucking fortune. She is obsessed with musical theatre and it was between Six and Hamilton but they did Six in her stage school show and she loves the music so she picked Six. I should have booked last week when Hamilton was ahead!

I absolutely cant stand Dylan Mulvany. The level of disconnect brands have with associating with them is infuriating. I would absolutely not have given them a penny of our money had I of known.

Toseland · 17/01/2026 00:53

They are taking women's everything and trashing it, because they can.
No more heroes anymore.

TotalDramarama24 · 17/01/2026 00:57

Dylan Mulvaney is appearing in Six on Broadway, not in the UK. I guess bookings are slow if they have gone for stunt casting.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 17/01/2026 01:17

brieandcrackers · 16/01/2026 22:50

Good for her! I’m seeing it later this year (in the UK), really loved Hamilton so looking forward to another historical musical.

Don't be so damn silly. Even if he wasn't actually a man taking a role from a woman, he'd still be a talent free zone. Talk about a "diversity hire"

MistyGreenAndBlue · 17/01/2026 01:21

Oh thank god! Well not for the principle which is infuriating but I am grateful I didn't have to consider cancelling.

piscofrisco · 17/01/2026 01:24

is it not good enough that the original Anne Boykin was moulded and eventually killed due to the nasty will of men ? Do we now need to disrespect her even more?

persephonia · 17/01/2026 02:06

JustCabbaggeLooking · 17/01/2026 00:34

You can always tell. 'Oh no you can't!'
Oh yes. You can.

There's a difference for sure because men's lungs are different sizes etc. For example a female choir singing misère mei sounds slightly different to a Boys Choir singing the same thing even if they are hitting all the same notes. It's more that female and male singers can sing in ranges usually associated with the opposite sex if they are skilled and have that range. Some of the parts now sing by women were originally sung by castrati (urgh) or male sopranos. The issue here is firstly Dylan Mulvaney probably isn't going to be hitting those notes as well. But secondly I think there's a more general issue with him taking a female role in an all female production.

Anne is probably the least vocally challenging role though, isn't she? I haven't seen the show live or anything, but I've listened to the soundtrack and if memory serves, Anne's song is quite light. It's a Lily Allen style ditty. "Sorry not sorry for what I said, I was just having fun . . ."

The Lily Allen style will mean Dylan is doing a Mockney accent though (yikes at the thought of it) and on top of that, I really, really doubt he could pull off the underlying vulnerability the song requires. So leaving aside the great, glaring, obvious reason this is a shit bit of casting . . . I still can't see how Dylan would be a good choice for the role.

I feel sorry for anyone who was excited to see this.

I’m off to bed, but my final note to anyone who hasn’t seen SIX is this - it’s a 1 hour show condensing and exceptionally complex part of English history that attempts to give a voice to 6 women who suffered at the hands of an English king.

It’s a musical

It’s not a historical narrative

It heavily relies on tropes about females - the unattractive one, the feisty one, the homemaker, the temptress etc and does its best to - within the limits of a one theatre show - to try and challenge some of this and turn it upside down.🙃

This. For anyone wondering, the show is basically telling the story of the six wives through the X Factor. Each of them is depicted like an iconic pop star and sings a number in their style.

So Jane Seymour, who died after childbirth, gets an Adele ballad. Anne of Cleves gets a rap number about her cultural influence. Etc. Katherine Howard is one of the best examples of the tone of the whole thing. She gets a number in the style of Britney Spears, which at first glance seems to tie into the teen vixen stereotype so common in pop, which also plagued Howard in real life. But you very quickly come to realise that Howard is actually trapped in a sad cycle of being taken advantage of by older men, lacking the power to refuse them and desperately hoping each new man will be different. By the end of the song she's just broken by it all. It's very sad.

I was so disappointed to look up the creators and see they were all aboard the trans train.

Completely seperate to the discussion about this particular case... It can be done depending on the individuals vocal range. Not a tenor obvs but you get male Sopranos and men who can sing in Falsetto. I think if you are trained to listen you probably can tell the difference. But it doesn't sound ridiculous and there is a long history of male singers voicing female parts. It's not whether a man could reach those notes that is the issue really.

also digressing, but do you actually get genuine male sopranos? Not including men castrated as a boy obviously.

DorotheaDiamond · 16/01/2026 22:35

I’m surprised it’s taken them this long - I know a casting agent who told me 2/3 years ago that they were actively looking for a transwoman…I love(d) that show :-(

Yes, I heard that too.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/01/2026 02:57

SabrinaThwaite · 16/01/2026 23:07

Isn’t Anne Boleyn portrayed as the airhead one?

Which she absolutely wasn’t.

That may be why they cast Mulvaney whose whole creepy schtick is larping as an airhead girl.

The writers of Six apparently thought they were being all new and original by including gay and queer people in their show...because those people are so marginalised in the theatre and there are very few gay and queer people working in the performing arts.

Could someone please help me rescue my eyeballs, they appear to have rolled out of my actual head.

This made me LOL. 😂
