Came up on fb and thought it was satire to start with! Would put me off going to see it tbh

I’ve always had them pegged as tedious attention seekers after the silly tantrum they threw when JKR was on the same programme as them.

Had no idea about any of this, but no surprise I guess. Female empowerment packaged and sold for the benefit of men. Must be a day with a Y in it.

NotBadConsidering · 17/01/2026 08:37

Rather surprised he's still going with all this schtick.

People keep giving him money for it.

He would be mad to stop to be honest. Wringing every last penny out of idiots willing to fawn.

I've seen this show, it's fantastic. But I would rather stick pins in my eyes than see it with this person in it.

Exactly!!!

Saw with my DD-absolutely loved it.

How can they not see it is problematic to have a man playing Anne Boleyn when the very reason she was executed was for not producing a male heir-amongst other reasons. I think if she had produced the male heir none of the other reasons would have mattered.

Hope this production sinks without a trace

The writers of six have been on the trans train for years. They said something like they didn’t want TERFs to come to their show. So I haven’t.

This! the writers of Six are two privileged young people from wealthy backgrounds. Tony Marlowe identifies as NB and uses they/them pronouns. They're your classic upper middle class liberal arts be kindsrs.

Plus as we know there's nothing like seeing a TW in the flesh especially surrounded by a lot of women ti highlight just how male they are

so yes struggling to get annoyed about this as I find the whole "wooooah girl poooweer" concept of Six to be fatuous anyway.

It's sad you don't value women.

Our history matters. The shit that women were dealt through history matters. And it happened to female people not male, and it happened to them because they were female not male.

So swapping men in to play us because a bunch of limited sexist twunts have decided it's better to define us by stereotypes than see who we actually are is just damn offsensive.

Cherrysoup · 17/01/2026 08:44

nevernotmaybe · 17/01/2026 06:34

Britain had a long tradition of gender swapping roles on stage.

Indeed, male actors playing female roles because females weren’t allowed and now let’s shove this bloke into a female role. This very much demeans the story of the multiple women discarded by a king who could. He must have been gutted to see how many dc Anne of Cleeves went on to have.

This bloke is an appalling choice given the show is about the women who were used and abused. What the fuck. I’d absolutely be demanding my money back had I bought tickets. This is not the stage (ha!) for trans issues. FFS, is nothing sacred?

sanluca · 17/01/2026 08:45

LVhandbagsatdawn · 17/01/2026 08:07

Have you actually read the lyrics to Anne Boleyn's song in the musical?

It certainly does not emphasise her intelligence or power.

This musical is not a paragon of historical accuracy and feminism. I wouldn't say it's a "fuck you" to anyone, but the casting of DM (or indeed the casting of black actresses for white historical figures) is hardly ruining some bastion of solemn historical recreation.

Oh absolutely, the lyrics to Don’t lose your head are infuriating. I told my girls so when we saw it, there is so much lost about the women in the songs. But to then also completely ignore why she is written as a femme fatale instead of an intelligent woman making the best out of what men let her be and why she was beheaded, and letting her role be played by a bloke mocking women, oh that is just too much.

peacefulpeach · 17/01/2026 08:47

It’s a shit musical, not surprised they’ve given a man the main part of a woman who was punished for not providing a man.

Avoid at all costs.

Sod off with your ‘hysterical’ insult.
There’s nothing remotely clever about casting a man, who makes his living by parodying women, as a woman. Anne Boleyn wasn’t trans or male, so why cast someone who is both of those in the role? Pathetic.

Maddy70 · 17/01/2026 08:50

Meh go and see it if you want to , don't if you don't. Can't get worked up about this

MrsMitford3 · 17/01/2026 08:53

When I went a few years ago (it was West End versus Broadway) the audience was full of Mums and teen/young daughters.

I don't want them to think/see it normalised that the best woman for the part of a woman is a man.

SucksToBeYou · 17/01/2026 08:54

Mollyollydolly · 17/01/2026 00:20

Divorced, bloke, died; divorced, beheaded, survived.

🤣🤣🤣

I think you're missing the point. I enjoyed the musical. I think that people who are able to write music and lyrics are indeed cleverer than me when it comes to those things. But, so what? That's got absolutely nothing to do with whether I want to see DM cast in the role of AB. Which I don't. Perfectly calm about it too. Though you seem to be a little upset if you're resorting to insulting people rather than telling us why a man is a good choice for the role.

WanderingWellies · 17/01/2026 09:02

contemporaneousnote · 16/01/2026 22:25

Just to qualify- DM's vocal abilities are not the main reason I'm questioning his casting.

Really? Shocked. 🙄

Fulmine · 17/01/2026 09:03

Piglet89 · 17/01/2026 07:18

Ok, @OneGreyKoala- here’s one for you. Arguing your point by making derogatory personal comments about the person with whom you disagree (in this case, stating we’re all stupider than the writers of “Six”) is ad hominem and a logical fallacy, which is essentially no argument at all.

Dismantle that.

The problem with this is that you are still failing to engage with the point @OneGreyKoala made.

Cheeeesedoff · 17/01/2026 09:03

brieandcrackers · 16/01/2026 22:50

Good for her! I’m seeing it later this year (in the UK), really loved Hamilton so looking forward to another historical musical.

I do note that they have turned off comments under the post I screenshot. Wonder why!

Because of all the "Manne Broleyn" comments. 😅

Igneococcus · 17/01/2026 07:31

Yes, beautiful voice but you can still tell it's a counter tenor not a soprano. It would be even more obvious if a counter tenor would belt out one of the big soprano arias rather than the repertoire that was written for counter tenors.

But choirs regularly have men in the contralto section.

@OneGreyKoala how do you know how clever the posters on MN are? That’s the thing about anonymous forums. You don’t know the posters. So your statement is incorrect.

Hohumdedum · 17/01/2026 09:11

I'm not really that fussed as long as they are good. I've seen a woman play Richard 3rd and various other people playing the opposite sex in various shows who have been amazing.

On the other hand, I thought the trans person who played Margot in Legally Blonde at Regent's Park was dire. Their singing was painful in the role.

I am keeping an open mind (admittedly without too much hope).

Nottodaythankyou123 · 17/01/2026 09:21

SabrinaThwaite · 16/01/2026 23:49

I’ve seen it, thanks. I found it didn’t live up to the hype.

I also know my Tudor history.

Sorry I can’t see if anyone responded. I’m sure I saw an explanation for that because I thought it was odd when I saw it - it is effectively supposed to be satire, a bit like how Katherine Howard’s song starts all peppy and playful but by the end they make it so clear how manipulated she was. I just don’t think it comes across as clearly with AB.

To be honest the trans argument usually passes me by, by and large as long as people are happy then it’s none of my business what name they use or what clothes they wear or how they identify. But I think they’ve dropped the ball a bit here because it’s a controversial subject at the best of times, and given the background of the show is oppressed women, it really just creates conflict for the sake of headlines.

GlomOfNit · 17/01/2026 09:27

lurcherlover · 16/01/2026 22:09

The original AB was executed because she failed to produce a baby with a penis. The Tudors were in no doubt at all that sex was a biological concept and all six Queens were at Henry’s mercy as a result of their biology and nothing else. Women could not identify out of their oppression and no man would have wanted to adopt it. This is really disrespectful to the memories of those women.

You nailed it!

Ah, the sweet irony. Sadly lost on most of the audience, I suspect.

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 17/01/2026 09:28

I like the show

i would agree that at male shouldnt be playing AB

would have been better to play Anne of Cleves…that would have explained why Henry didnt fancy her
