NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #45

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to last 2 weeks. However, after 2 weeks it was not complete and it adjourned part-heard. It resumed on 16 July and the last day of evidence had been intended to be 28 July with 2 days of submissions from counsel meaning that the hearing was to have ended on 30 July. However, it became apparent as the hearing progressed that this schedule wouldn't be followed. (Considerable understatement.)

The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton gave evidence from Thursday 6 February to Wednesday 12 February.

I bet these two assassins make jokes about english people quite frequently...especially when they've been on the Irn Bru.

Isn't that after SP was suspended? Why would you still be going on holiday with someone that you though was so horribly racist, and so transphobic she'd been suspended?

Was it ok to name two other individuals? Ie the paramedic who is said to have made the bacon comment? I felt some unease at that.

We can agree this has nothing to do with single sex spaces.

But making racist jokes in writing to 6 other people is objectively awful. And all those other people should have said no and shouldn’t have gone on holiday with her. So not good all round.

Sandies behaviour is very unpleasant here.

NHSF and the NMC can certainly institute their own investigations. And if this witness will stand up in court with this evidence, she can do the same in any investigation by NHSF or the NMC.

LN SP was devaststed and really unhappy w a close fam member being gay. She seeked a long convo as I have relatives. I said I love them, want them to be their true selves. Its not that difficult

Lindsey Nichol started her Emergency Nurse Practitioner training in 2017. She was a senior ranking nurse to Sandie she should have reported her.

Repeating the conversation about Sandie's daughter being gay is pure poison. long long gulp of water before speculating about what she believes Sandie's 'true feelings' to be. Speaks very quietly and voice disappears.

If anything, this is a lesson for those who are unaware, to not trust people at work. Sandie obviously confided in one of them about her daughter being a lesbian, and now look at what that person is doing with that information. She’s attempting to discredit Sandie in a legal matter, ruin her reputation at work, and drive a wedge in her family. Crazy

Yes this is true. But has no relevance to this tribunal. Also the quality of this investigation has been so poor, I’m not sure they can actually carry out a decent one.

Yes to underpants in Fife. Would normally just say pants buts she’s under oath so the full term makes sense if being formal - never knickers.

What might her feelings be? - literally making stuff up and attributing it to SP!

Ms Nicoll said that Ms Peggie "loves" her daughter, but said she believes the nurse is "homophobic".

Really pissed off with Peggie. But my interest in this case has never been about supporting her as an individual. There have been so many dark hints about her racism all along.

I can't imagine it will affect the case much, but it is certainly grist to the mill of people who want to slur sex realism by claiming it is associated with racism.

However, the truth is that sex realist beliefs are about as incontrovertible as belief in gravity, and I know I share that belief with most racists.
