NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #45

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to last 2 weeks. However, after 2 weeks it was not complete and it adjourned part-heard. It resumed on 16 July and the last day of evidence had been intended to be 28 July with 2 days of submissions from counsel meaning that the hearing was to have ended on 30 July. However, it became apparent as the hearing progressed that this schedule wouldn't be followed. (Considerable understatement.)

The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton gave evidence from Thursday 6 February to Wednesday 12 February.

Why did they laugh at SP for being racist, and keep SP in the group? The others don't seem to have disagreed with her views enough to de-friend her or report her?

Really not seeing the relevance here, how does this pertain to the main point of the tribunal? This isn’t a tribunal to decide SP’s character, it’s to decide whether she was denied her legal right to SSS. She could be a female Hitler and it wouldn’t make any difference to that.

Ok i may be sticking up for Sandie Peggie a bit here but jokes are just jokes they are not actually her views its like the whole Jimmy Carr gypsy things he got absolutely dragged over the coals for it and what was rarely mentioned is he is Irish with gypsy heritage it was just a joke and people seem to have forgotten how jokes work.. now do i think there may be more to it than that where Sandie is concerned maybe but jokes are not opinions!

Why did they keep going on annual holidays with her?

So willing to go on trips with the mega racist Sandie.

NHSF could terminate her employment for misconduct based on the jokes, and SP’s regulator would say she’s brought her profession into disrepute.

I guess the general idea is that SP is 'transphobic' and prejudiced towards trans people, just like she's hateful and prejudiced towards certain other minorities.

She's a despicable racist but I never reported her and I went on holiday with her in May 2024.

These can be common ‘jokes’ in working class circles.

I am still trying to get my head around the fact that sandie must have viewed these women as friends if she went on holiday with them.

But SP is still entitled to access SSS, it is her legal right, which she was denied by NHS Fife. This isn’t a purity tribunal, it isn’t about people’s personal views, it’s about legal employment rights.

That's very offensive to working class people, who surely know that they are deeply offensive? Not being racist is not just a middle class thing!
