NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #34

1000 replies

nauticant · 21/07/2025 09:18

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to last 2 weeks. However, after 2 weeks it was not complete and it adjourned part-heard. It resumed on 16 July and the last day of evidence will be 28 July and then there will be 2 days of submissions from counsel meaning that the hearing will end on 30 July.

The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton gave evidence from Thursday 6 February to Wednesday 12 February.

Access to view the hearing remotely was obtainable by sending an email request to [email protected] by 5pm on Wednesday 9 July. Detailed instructions were provided here:

Age spread of participants?
I'm in my early 70s.
I'm pretty sure there are some young people in here too ...

Oh he will find a way to sue the NHS he is that narcissistic and if he loses he will not take it well..

I am sure if Fife found a way to give him the old heave ho, or worse, he got struck off, he and his trans chums would have a mega trans tantrum to defy all trans tantrums.

A transtrum?

(I know I can't be the first person to think of that.)

54 (I think) and lurking whilst working (for myself). Loving the local dialect chat though. Had no idea 'outwith' was Scottish! We're all linguistic magpies. (I said at work that someone was "All mouth and no trousers" and got the largest collection of blank/WTF looks in history!)

Just try not to buy a tent. The Mumsnet ads for those keep almost sucking me in.

Already got one. It's very nice. 😁

But some of those ads, though ... 😍 They're whetting my appetite for camping in August.

Ooh, gherkins and capers, two of my very favourite things! I wonder if I could add anchovies? Because that would make it perfect.

<wanders off to kitchen as I'm hungry now>

Edited

DH would love it with anchovies but I'm agin them myself, though might try it with a tiny portion to see if I still dislike them or not. If they're still horrible, then DH can eat that portion.

ApolloandDaphne · 21/07/2025 11:11

I'm about to get on a train for an hour so hopefully things will kick off then. After that I'm meeting friends for a boozy lunch so probably won't catch up until much later! I might need to have plenty loo breaks to check up on proceedings.

Can I suggest that any talk of celery/soup/recipes/origin of words and anything completely unrelated to this case is on a different thread.
It's utterly ridiculous having to read through pages and pages of celery talk on a thread as important as this.

Edited

Agreed. These threads are quite long enough without adding a couple of hours of unrelated chat.

TT - JR questions to CM - apparently no ref to statement??

For the next time someone wants to play the 'where's the anti-trans sentiment on mumsnet' game.

How odd, I thought they'd at least briefly reference it.

We say squint in the NE. My partner, who's from Suffolk, would call in 'on the huh' eg 'That picture's on the huh'. I love all these regional variations!

if i could go back to school and college i think i would study the origins of words and sayings and that kind of thing cos i love finding out where the english language has come from and how its changed and its meanings and all that..

Camping where? August is a very unreliable month weather-wise. Can be searing heat in the daytime, freezing at night with frost on the sleeping bag, or unremitting downpours with wind and hail.

I'd wait til September and just go for the weekend.

In recipes I always used shallots instead of scallions. So I now know better.

For years I resisted looking up what the word 'scallion' actually meant, because the term was so enjoyably intriguing whenever I stumbled on it. I imagined it as some kind of heraldic embellishment on knightly armour or something. Then i found out it was spring onions and the world went grey.

Same with Hannibal Lector and fava beans. He seemed much less cool and scary when I realised these were just good old butter beans

HerbertPootle · 21/07/2025 11:15

Just in now

mrharry1 · 21/07/2025 11:16

This is a significant and complex case. It’s important that the full hearing is being shared publicly and transparently. Looking forward to seeing how the tribunal addresses the serious claims raised—thanks for sharing all the resources and updates.
