NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #31

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to last 2 weeks. However, after 2 weeks it was not complete and it adjourned part-heard. It resumed on 16 July and the last day of evidence will be 28 July and then there will be 2 days of submissions from counsel meaning that the hearing will end on 30 July.

The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton gave evidence from Thursday 6 February to Wednesday 12 February.
Access to view the hearing remotely was obtainable by sending an email request to [email protected] by 5pm on Wednesday 9 July. Detailed instructions were provided here:

They are apparently trying for a child.

How is ‘trying to father a child’ compatible with living as a woman?

Just caught up with TT.

So it's poor, shaking, sobbing, pale, panicky misgendered and attacked Beth; and matter of fact, cold and unfeeling bitch Sandie. That's the narrative they're going with??!

Some observers might conclude that SP's 'matter of factness' suggested that 'recollections varied'.

Yes, it's earlier in the thread.

Apologies, that was the first email.

This is the second.

Here's the email for Searle to Upton from Maya's post

The email is dated 29 December

How could this morning's witness claim that this is a neutral informative note to (just) 20 colleagues? OK at the time maybe if reading on the fly - but now, under oath in the cold light of day in a tribunal room - really?

Beowulfa · 18/07/2025 14:27

Come on BBC:

RACIST NURSE LEAVES TRANS MEDIC PALE AND SOBBING ON CHRISTMAS EVE

She probably put used wrappers back in the Quality Street tin too.

LarkLaneAgain · 18/07/2025 14:27

Finally caught up with you all. I had a bit of work to do so have been lagging behind reading the last thread. Thanks all for keeping the reporting going.

No words left to describe these people.
I had a barmcake for lunch. Seemed appropriate in the circumstances.

ickky · 18/07/2025 14:27

Does not liking smelly food in your work kitchen make you a racist?

No one should be making any strong smelling food in the work kitchen.

Yes, can see the headline now

"Trans row nurse racist, hears tribunal"

Fuckers.

It should be "Fife nurse teaches KC Jane Russell about the difference between evidence and hearsay, during tribunal"

Why no photos of Dr U?

I was checking my notes from February and Sandie sobbed after she got the call to go on special leave. I don't remember the BBC reporting that, or anything much at all....

Oooo we got some fancy graphics going on.

This is a clue - they know this story is HUGE and they are going to be talking about it a lot in the days, weeks and months ahead.

They don't do fancy graphics for any old story.

ThatPithySheep · 18/07/2025 14:28

As a strategy this smearing of SP is pretty effective. A colleague asked me about the case today, and said he had heard SP was a racist and a Trump supporter. I said there was no evidence of that, but even if there were it doesn't mean her rights are forfeit.

Oh FFS we suggested it as an ironic comment 'The BBC are so biased they would probably headline this as...'
They've actually done it?!😧

We all have the protected characteristic of sexual orientation. My orientation is heterosexual. That is protected. Whilst I have never needed this protection, I am nonetheless protected from being discriminated against for being heterosexual.

I wonder if asexual people have a protected characteristic here.

SternJoyousBee · 18/07/2025 14:29

Struggling to post so have moved to the app to see it it works better for me.

It would appear that there is a scarcity of professionalism in the ED in Fife. Some folks promoted above their capabilities

GailBlancheViola · 18/07/2025 14:29

This is truly apalling, are they taking tips from the Salem Witch Trials?

No one should be making any strong smelling food in the work kitchen.

I think looking down on somebody because of their food preferences might make you a snob.

As soon as I get to the end of my SkyTV contract I’m binning it and the TVLicence. I will stick to YouTube and some streaming services

I have always stood up for the BBC but they can get in the bin.
