Stumbled across this thread on Reddit. A load of TIMs sharing their experiences of having a period.

One delusion leads to another I suppose.

Zebracat · 03/04/2025 22:10

Fucking hell!

Been watching some of the discussion on a recent video clip of a male experiencing their 'period'. There are people actually arguing that women don't understand periods. We are being told that these hormones can cause other body parts to cramp if there is no uterus / ovaries.

What are those hormones contracting to cause that cramping in lieu of the female reproductive organs? Sure the hormone surge can cause other side effects around the body, but 'cramping'? Intestinal or gastro distress? But again, not menstruation.

Don't forget, these male people insist on taking these hormones, and their endocrinologists will help them to 'cycle' their hormone cycle and tell them it is their 'cycle'.

It is just bonkers thinking. And misogynistic in numerous ways.

GC5 · 03/04/2025 22:36

Absolutely bonkers. Also, incredibly insulting.

That Reddit thread:

I have heard interesting information about cis female having full uterus removal so the body has no uterus to shed and does not produce oestrogen. For these women periods and all pain will stop..... Unless they go on HRT when the cramps and other effects begin full swing again almost as painful as before. Transphobes and denialists hate this as it proves they are stupid and we are 100% valid.

That's right up there with the David Lammy version of human (female) biology.

afuckinggoat · 03/04/2025 22:48

They are fetishising our biological reality.

Mentally unwell people loudly trying to force the rest of us to take part in their (as NC would put it) immersive role play. If I weren't angry, it would be hilarious.

The comments that stood out to me:
-We don't have a uterus, but we do have the muscles where the uterus would be and that's why we get cramps.
-I sync up with my room mate (syncing is a myth)
-"Every month I get cranky and have funky cramps, and if that's not a period, idk what the fuck is" (you're right, clearly you don't know what the fuck a period is).

Quite.

No woman who has had a hysterectomy would ever claim to still be getting a "period", even if she were to use HRT. Absurd.

At least they're not fetishizing the bleeding aspect of periods. In fact they don't really acknowledge it much at all.

The bleeding bit is 'too much' for them

Where would the blood come out?

I don't want to think about it

I’ve said this before, but they really need to revise their GCSE biology of the reproductive system.

There are at least six hormones controlling the menstrual cycle, including FSH, LMH, and so on. It’s progesterone that causes the onset of the actual period - a drop in progesterone triggers the onset of the period itself. Period cramps are believed to be caused by the action of prostaglandins in the uterine muscle. Progesterone inhibits prostaglandin production, so when progesterone drops sharply as the period starts, prostaglandin production in the uterine muscle rises as the womb lining starts to shed.

Oestrogen is also at its lowest point in the cycle during that stage - almost nonexistent. It starts to rise again as the period finishes.

So if you’re taking a consistent dose of oestrogen across the month, not only are you not creating a menstrual cycle, but you’re definitely not replicating a period - which is when oestrogen and progesterone are at their lowest points, pretty much absent! The very opposite point to taking oestrogen!

None of these trans people ever seem to notice this. These are well established scientific facts. 😆 Yet all this easily available knowledge doesn’t stop the delusion, or stop daft sites on the internet from claiming that trans women get periods. I even used to get deleted on MN when I pointed this out because it upset the TRAs, despite it being in any human biology textbook (or they could have just popped over to the TTC forum and learned all about charting! 😄)

afuckinggoat · 03/04/2025 23:41

@Airwaterfire They do know about charting. One of these chaps said they're using the Flo app to track their cycle 😂

Hah, well they don’t know enough to know what they’re charting, which is — a big fat nothing! 😆 Or maybe bowel upsets, if we’re being charitable.

sunbum · 03/04/2025 23:44

Also, the uterus doesn't produce Estrogen, the ovaries do. These beta male weirdos are just uneducated/dumb.

Airwaterfire · 03/04/2025 23:45

Ah crap, my image wouldn’t post. Will try again…

popefully · 03/04/2025 23:47

It kind of reads like a group of 4 year olds talking confidently about all the moves they've done on a video game (that they haven't played).

When I'm having my period I'm actually fairly happy and not "cranky" at all but these trans women all seem to have mood swings during their so called periods..strange. its almost like they don't even know what the P in PMT stands for and have no clue about a woman's hormonal cycle at all.

They also seem to think that periods involve strange pregnancy like cravings like pickles with ice cream which they probably saw in a movie one time so is clearly something that we all do

NPET · 03/04/2025 23:53

Well we all know that men understand our bodies better than we do!

Airwaterfire · 03/04/2025 23:54

The whole menstrual cycle is based in complex feedback loops between the brain, the corpus luteum and the ovaries. Progesterone controls the cycle (which is why you can inhibit it by taking a progesterone-only pill); and few trans women take progesterone.

But progesterone and oestrogen are both controlled by and affect feedback loops mediated by FSH, LH, inhibin-A, inhibin-B and gonadotrophins (GnRH). The idea that taking an oestrogen pill simulates this, when not only do you not have the organ that cramps and bleeds, but you don’t have the hormones that control it either, is simply daft.

NPET · 03/04/2025 23:53

Yeah they sound like the men who blame any expression of anger or displeasure from a woman as "being on the rag". Same sentiment

withthegreatestrespect · 03/04/2025 23:56

The ignorance demonstrates how the 'gender affirming healthcare' providers have been careful to hide from these men all the ways in which they are not actually becoming women.

TennesseeStella · 03/04/2025 23:56

If one of these chaps experienced real menstrual cramps for even 15 minutes, I can guarantee they'd change their mind about wanting to be a woman sharpish.
