Stumbled across this thread on Reddit. A load of TIMs sharing their experiences of having a period.

They are mad. How are they shedding a womb lining from a womb they don't have?

yetanotherusernameAgain · 03/04/2025 23:59

"The other part of this question is whether the effects of these hormonal highs and lows "count" as a period, which is semantics. Yeah, we're never gonna have a uterine lining to shed"

Um, shedding the lining of the uterus is pretty much the point of periods.

If trans people taking hormones have got some hormonal cycle going on then own it for what it is and find a new word for it.

The ignorance demonstrates how the 'gender affirming healthcare' providers have been careful to hide from these men all the ways in which they are not actually becoming women.

Indeed. When oestrogen is highest in a woman’s body, that is at ovulation, not at the time of the period. And, of course, not only do they not have ovaries, but it would clearly sound ridiculous to claim they’re ovulating. So they choose the very thing that wouldn’t even make sense in terms of a female menstrual cycle. If we take a consistent dose of oestrogen throughout the month we don’t get any period — or cramps — at all! 😆

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/04/2025 00:03

Airwaterfire · 03/04/2025 23:54

The whole menstrual cycle is based in complex feedback loops between the brain, the corpus luteum and the ovaries. Progesterone controls the cycle (which is why you can inhibit it by taking a progesterone-only pill); and few trans women take progesterone.

But progesterone and oestrogen are both controlled by and affect feedback loops mediated by FSH, LH, inhibin-A, inhibin-B and gonadotrophins (GnRH). The idea that taking an oestrogen pill simulates this, when not only do you not have the organ that cramps and bleeds, but you don’t have the hormones that control it either, is simply daft.

This.

They (at least on that thread) don't acknowledge the lining-shedding bit as being an integral part of periods.

Their definition of period refers to a cyclical experience of mood swings, feeling emotional, abdominal pain etc which they claim is caused by their use of hormones. No bleeding involved.

Wipethedogspaws · 04/04/2025 00:11

This is the nub of it isn't it:

They are just an annoying few days a month of abdominal cramps and moodyness while feeling overall more sore, tired, angry and sad all at the same time. At least that seems to be my deal, which is affirming on a side and just awful on the other.

Imagine thinking you have period cramps when you don't actually have a uterus. It's just so desperate.

Especially when all those symptoms in women are caused by the very absence of the hormone/s that trans women take. So even the idea that the hormones are causing these effects makes zero sense on its own terms.

If one of these chaps experienced real menstrual cramps for even 15 minutes, I can guarantee they'd change their mind about wanting to be a woman sharpish.

Not all of them want periods, apparently.

I hope the transphobes find some magic proof to take them away from trans girls once and for all, They suck, I hate them and I don't want them. It is affirming for 20 minutes of the first one and after that I wanted them to get in the bin permanently.

But that's just life being cyclical, work, friends, emotions etc, and a dodgy takeaway. Periods are inherently about uterus linings. Batshit crazy people.

Saying that because you have a tummy ache and feel grumpy sometimes you are having a period is like saying you're pregnant because you sometimes feel nauseous or you have a brain tumour because you get occasional headaches.

These are symptoms that may or may not accompany a whole range of conditions. It's unbelievably thick to equate the symptoms with the condition.

Unbelievably thick seems to be a common demoninator.

Period is just a euphemism for menstruation.

All women and girls of menstruating age know when we have missed a period and what it could mean. If we get a tummy ache but no blood we know we didn't have a period. Because this actually means something in our bodies - we could be pregnant, we could be under a lot of stress, we could be malnourished, we could be reaching menopause or peri menopause.

But our lives and bodies are just jokes or theoretical musings to these men - they will never understand how grossly offensive and misogynistic they are being.

That Reddit thread:

I have heard interesting information about cis female having full uterus removal so the body has no uterus to shed and does not produce oestrogen. For these women periods and all pain will stop..... Unless they go on HRT when the cramps and other effects begin full swing again almost as painful as before. Transphobes and denialists hate this as it proves they are stupid and we are 100% valid.

That's right up there with the David Lammy version of human (female) biology.

Oestrogen doesn't come from the uterus, for starters.

yetanotherusernameAgain · 04/04/2025 00:39

Basically they've appropriated the word "period" to describe something they experience, but which isn't the same as women's definition of "period". See also, appropriation of the word "woman" and the initials "HRT".

As well as being rage-inducingly offensive to women's experience, their willingness to accept it as affirmation of their 'femaleness' ignores the fact that what they're experiencing is unique to men taking large doses of oestrogen and it should be researched for health implications.

OTC meds to relieve trapped wind and eating more fiber should do the trick lads 👍

No, because a very small number of women and girls have DSDs that mean that they cannot menstruate. Their lack of periods at puberty prompts a medical investigation into the root cause of this primary amenorrhea, which is because women and girls are expected to have periods and the lack of them indicates a medical problem.

I think the point you were trying to illustrate with your not-entirely-accurate statement about missed periods is that periods can only be a female experience and can never be a male experience. And you would be right. 100% of men and boys will never be investigated for primary amenorrhea. 100% of men and boys will never have to worry about a late period. 100% of men and boys will never take a pregnancy test and fear the results.

Periods are women's, not fetishistic men's.

CrazyCatMam · 04/04/2025 00:59

I stumbled across a Reddit thread today where someone was asking could they still get an erection after starting HRT. Apparently, and I quote, their ‘body dysmorphia doesn’t extend to the lower part of my body’ and they were hoping to have a fully functioning penis after transitioning.

Okay then… Confused

Firealarm1414 · 03/04/2025 23:55

Yeah they sound like the men who blame any expression of anger or displeasure from a woman as "being on the rag". Same sentiment

Edited

Quite. My ex would blame ‘TOTM’ rag week, shark week etc for any issue I raised. I asked him once if he had any clue which part of the cycle he was referring to. He did not.

The last time he said it I pointed out that as I was on HRT - the same medication which had caused my mum’s fatal breast cancer - I didn’t have a TOTM any more, just a time of my life. And that he could fuck off.

I’m not sure why these biological fetishists are so desperate to experience feeling weepy and cranky and having ‘abdominal bloating’ when its just dismissed and used as an insult for women by misogynistic jerks our whole lives.

Why would you want to co-opt that discomfort and humiliation?

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 04/04/2025 01:21

And are any of them actually cycling their H ’R’ T in order to experience the highs and lows? Not to mention the raft of other hormones at play as per previous post. Its like they think oestrogen is all it takes to be a woman.

Helleofabore · 04/04/2025 05:00

yetanotherusernameAgain · 03/04/2025 23:04

At least they're not fetishizing the bleeding aspect of periods. In fact they don't really acknowledge it much at all.

Edited

Well, maybe on ‘some’ threads they are not fetishing the blood.

But of course they do. There have been men discussing going through bins for used menstrual products. Whether it was true or not, (ie whether they actually did this or just talked about the possibility) even them discussing it is fetishing it.

However, there are also those who discuss what to make their ice blocks out of for the best simulation. The ice blocks to be inserted into their anus. So as that melts they get the experience of filling a pad with some sort of red liquid.

It feels like there are no lengths that they will not go to.

I still have a uterus and ovaries, though both are now defunct.

I’m also on HRT. No cramping, no periods. It’s very odd that, even with my intact female organs, I’m still not having any mysterious monthly symptoms.

It’s probably due to being one of the ancient terven. We’re not really women, you know, with our short hair and trousers and unshaven, warty old bodies.

And the frightening part is the hundreds of likes that post got, with someone claiming”this is the best explanation I’ve read”.

Christ.

AsTreesWalking · 04/04/2025 07:14

"The cramping comes from the fact that the smooth muscle tissue that makes up the intestines is the exact same tissue that makes up the uterus, and your endocrine system can't tell the difference (that's the reason for period poops that you'll hear a lot of women, cis and trans complain about)."

This is the comment that really made me laugh! Exact same tissue in uterus and intestines eh? Well, if your intestines regularly form and shed a lining, then I think you need to see a GP.
(But perhaps this exact sameness is what makes intestines the perfect material for a neo-vagina that is indistinguishable from the real thing?)

Unfortunately there are certain corners of the internet where period fetishes are performed by TiMs, accompanied by fetching poses. 🤮

Where would the blood come out?

Their suppurating surgical wound, I would imagine.
