NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board - thread #2

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 January 2025 and is expected to continue for 2 weeks.

Or driving into a dustbin @TWETMIRF

Do we need a new bingo card?

This is what I'd like to see in re-examination by NC:

Miss Peggie. You heard opposing counsel refer to Isla Bryson as "he". In your view does that make her a bigot, or at least someone prejudiced against transwomen?

That's a submissions point rather than re-examination

Did I understand correctly the HR person who did the investigation is not giving evidence?

Correct. I think she's left the organisation.
But I could be mistaken.

nauticant · 04/02/2025 15:49

I know. I was attempting to be "funny".

Coming back to the class issue again - DrU is a doctor and therefore much more important than a mere nurse

I do wonder how this scenario might have panned out if it had been a female Dr l objecting to a male HCA or nurse using the female changing room.

I know! The woman would be wrong and the TW would be right

Chrysanthemum5 · 04/02/2025 15:50

So far most of this seems to be berating SP for not doing what the higher status individual wanted.

Boiledbeetle · 04/02/2025 15:51

9 people are currently 'waiting in the lobby'

HarpyOfACertainAge · 04/02/2025 15:52

The BBC article above mentions a comment from SP that she had admiration for Donald Trump. What relevance has that and why does the BBC article choose to mention it? To try and paint a picture of her as some kind of ignorant bigot?

I always wonder just how incandescent she would have been over the judgement.

nauticant · 04/02/2025 15:53

Does the BBC article mention the attempt to slur Peggie as homophobic and then opposing counsel dropping that like a hot potato when it went wrong?

SP must feel battered. It's been horrible to listen to, I can't imagine what she feels like having it personally directed at her all because she thought female only changing rooms should be what they say on the door.

People are back in the room, waiting on the panel to return.

T Tweets has it recorded as MSF being off sick again.

"I wasn't there"..."It was nearly Christmas"..." I was driving the car" line of excuses incoming

At least small brick wall or hedge incandescent.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 04/02/2025 15:54

Ah, yes, you're correct @Madcats

She's off sick.

legalimmigrant · 04/02/2025 15:55

Back to a previous point by JR - I don't really understand why the space or lack thereof within the hospital regarding changing rooms is relevant. If the NHS is going to have a policy that gender is equally as important as sex (despite having no scientific basis nor evidence that there is a risk based reason for segregation as there is for sex), they need to provide adequate toilets and changing rooms. It's not SP's job to sort that out.

I do wonder if she was stitched up given they waited so long for her to be off sick.

Sad SP had to do another day, but the page is starting to develop moving splodges, so I've definitely been looking at it too long!
