NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board - thread #2

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 January 2025 and is expected to continue for 2 weeks.

The sick leave is of the HR support person. To explain tardiness in dealing with Peggie's case.

It was the HR support persons leave, JR saying that was the reason for the investigation taking such a long time.

ickky · 04/02/2025 15:39

snap

Chrysanthemum5 · 04/02/2025 15:39

JR saying the investigation took 9 months but that's ok becuase the HR person kept being off. Obviously the NHS only has one HR person who could have done this work

nauticant · 04/02/2025 15:40

Hospitals would seem to be very unhealthy places.

If I'd made notes of every time a nurse in A+E/Medical Admissions didn't do something I'd asked for or was rude to me, I'd never have got anything done.

And I'm sure the nurses would say the same about the junior doctors as well actually I know they do

As far as bullying in the NHS goes this is one of the most pathetic examples ever.

I think JR said yesterday it was to do with SP instructing BU to do obs (or similar), when that would usually be 'a nurses job.'

Of course I'm sure there must be much MUCH more to it than that.

Coming back to the class issue again - DrU is a doctor and therefore much more important than a mere nurse

Boiledbeetle · 04/02/2025 15:40

That's really not a good enough reason, in fact that's an appalling reason to have someone on long term suspension/ under investigation for.

nauticant · 04/02/2025 15:41

That's Russell done with her cross-examination.

nauticant · 04/02/2025 15:42

NC said her re-examination will be brief.

Judge is noting time, quite a long day, might just stop and come back tomorrow.

NC content to break for fifteen mins.

Judge let's have a break for ten minutes

Harassedevictee · 04/02/2025 15:42

That was kind of the NC.

wantmorenow · 04/02/2025 15:43

So glad NC looking out for SP and fingers crossed she will not have to take the stand again tomorrow.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/02/2025 15:43

Who is the person sat facing Peggie?

AnnaMagnani · 04/02/2025 15:43

Being told to do obs when normally it's a nurses job is the epitome of being treated as a woman!

I was flabbergasted when I found out my male colleague had never had to clear away his trolley as the nurses always did it for him.

Basically, if you want to get anywhere in medicine, you do what the nurses tell you. You might gripe about it later in a doctor-only group but the whole NHS runs on people sucking it up.

ickky · 04/02/2025 15:43

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine The clerk, I think

LipbalmOrKnickers · 04/02/2025 15:43

I hope they do press on and finish SP today, she must be utterly exhausted and she's done so well so far.

Harassedevictee · 04/02/2025 15:44

Did I understand correctly the HR person who did the investigation is not giving evidence?

nauticant · 04/02/2025 15:45

This is what I'd like to see in re-examination by NC:

Miss Peggie. You heard opposing counsel refer to Isla Bryson as "he". In your view does that make her a bigot, or at least someone prejudiced against transwomen?

OP posts:
nauticant · 04/02/2025 15:46

I think so Harassedevictee but there's to be a stand-in of someone else who was involved.

They'll probably be on leave...

Only women who are pure enough are allowed human rights, apparently.

And as soon as you say TWAM you are no longer pure.

FannyCann · 04/02/2025 15:47

I do wonder how this scenario might have panned out if it had been a female Dr l objecting to a male HCA or nurse using the female changing room.

Boiledbeetle · 04/02/2025 15:31

JR moves on to next mind numbing point.

😂😂😂😂

Good point. It's difficult to know which kind of affirmation is right and what is wrong with these men's inner feelings, isn't it? Almost as if other staff are walking on eggshells.
