Good response @SpidersAreShitheads . I'd also like @YourAmplePlumPoster to answer your questions.

BezMills · 30/01/2025 09:48

You know what they say about dancing with clowns. Better wear steel toe caps.

There's no point in asking this poster earnest, good faith questions. The agenda is clear. People have put all these points earlier. Read the end of the last thread.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 30/01/2025 11:59

Point of clarification:

just 3% of rape cases go to trial and only 62% of that 3% are convicted.

'Rape cases' here means, I believe, reported rapes.

Only 16% of rapes are reported. https://lordslibrary.parliament.uk/rape-levels-of-prosecutions/]

So the chances of a rape actually leading to a conviction are just under 0.3% using the 62% conviction figure (convictions for 2023/24 actually fell to just 53.4%, which would bring it down to 0.25%).

Agreed. Some people are best ignored and not engaged with.

Terry Pratchett Estate statement on the Kickstarter-funded Good Omens graphic novel adaptation. It will gonahead, but without Gaiman receiving any proceeds.

“the Kickstarter and PledgeManager will now fully be an entity run by, and financially connected to, the Terry Pratchett Estate only."

"A number of tiers also come with author merchandise and books; we have been working on a system in the back end to remove or swap out particular rewards from tiers, should you wish to continue with the project, but not receive these specific items."

"Good Omens in all its forms is very special to us, and we know that for many fans the landscape has shifted. We appreciate the sensitivity of this issue, and will be working through all queries in the coming weeks."

LaLoba · 31/01/2025 22:33

Oh he’s back. Who put 50p in the dickhead?

YourAmplePlumPoster · 31/01/2025 22:38

Yes it's great when people lose money and livelihoods except when it's you. And for the umpteenth time I am not NG. Lol 😆

No, maybe not. But you don't actually give a shit about the people losing livelihoods. You only glommed on to that once your original insistence on needing a conviction in court before believing the women, and then pouring scorn on them didn't work.

Whatever your actual motive is, fuck off.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 31/01/2025 22:48

I'm just wondering where the unions are when this happens to workers who lose their jobs owing to these events.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 31/01/2025 22:52

"You don't actually give a shit about the people losing livelihoods."
Neither do you. Just as long as the perceived perpetrator is punished before even a trial is held.

It never occurred to me that you might be NG, DistendedOldManPlums, I didn’t even suggest it, odd that you’d jump to that conclusion.

More good news! I might actually buy it when it comes out then, I've been avoiding it because of his involvement.

I think other people made that joke earlier or implied that it was Gaiman's PR company.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 31/01/2025 22:58

Rachel Johnson FFS. Especially with her brother, jumping on a bandwagon of victims. Are you fooled by her? She's a complete fraud like her brother.

So you admit you don't. Finally.

I think it's a massive shame, for the record. But if they lose money or work, the blame belongs to the sexually abusive creep. Not the women objecting to their treatment at his hands.

I’m starting to think the joke nailed it! Some barrel scraping excuses for arguments here.

It's been very difficult since he left his adoring fans on Tumblr! 😁

I don't really know much about authors' estates and how close to the author people involved will be - and I'm also a sucker for a bit of wishful thinking - but this feels like an acknowledgement that GO was always a TP project. And he let NG hang around while he wrote it and have his name in fancy lights alongside an actually decent fantasy-comedy novel.
It's certainly going to be easy to think of it that way from now on.
Sucks to be you hey NG?

No, as we said, NG is a manipulative, abusive bastard, but not a bad writer, so I'd imagine he'd do better than this poor effort—he did manage to fool people, after all. I mean, NG is not as brilliant as some of his acolytes seem to make him out, imho, and was never a fan personally, but people seemed to like his stories. Whereas DistendedOldManPlums, as we know, is just here to have a pop at women like a regular common or garden ole MRA with the usual weak arguments we've all seen before. Probs a passenger from another thread. All a bit sad and silly really.

Interesting about the Terry Pratchett estate and Good Omens. I think people across the book/comics industry probably know more than what's come out into the open so far. There'll be a lot of "lower level" experiences young women have had with him over the years, and it all adds up into a very unpleasant picture, I'm afraid. NG is done.

The comments under that statement on Facebook included several along the lines of 'I'm in publishing - we all knew years ago'; and there was mention of a course (plus knowledge that other courses had similar) with a rule about no sex with students that was known as 'The Gaiman rule'.

I get the impression that there are vast numbers of people who were not in the least surprised by the revelations.

nauticant · 01/02/2025 07:47

So not only did they keep the lid on things at the time of the abusive behaviour but they helped to enable the attempt to make the Tortoise Media story to be not a thing. It's only now, that there's no risk in speaking up, and possibly there's some gain, that tongues are loosening.
