A continuation of threads 1 & 2 now that things have moved on considerably, what with further episodes on the Tortoise podcast and the Vulture Article which blew the story out further into the mainstream

NG is done.

but last year when the original podcast came out this was by no means a given. I wonder what changed to allow the vulture article to come out and people to suddenly start feeling comfortable talking about his behaviour?

I guess it's partly because more women have come forward, and partly because it's a second publication and a different set of journalists. Initially people could just dismiss it as one small UK publication, and one of the journalists was Rachel Johnson, who as we all know is a terrible Terf and Boris Johnson's sister, so by the usual deranged logic of these people she can't be trusted.

It wouldn't at all surprise me if there's a major newspaper working on this story too.

I can arrange to meet up with you somewhere to prove I'm not Neil Gaiman haha. Seriously, what level of discourse on mumsnet that permits this level of conspiracy theories. 😳 not a serious forum.

Yet you are here on this non serious forum insisting on being taken seriously by those you consider intellectually inferior to yourself.
To the point that you are offering meet ups in order to confirm your non Gaiman identity.

Your contention is the fact that despite your superiority complex and choosing to "test" it on those you consider not up to your intellectual standards....instead of you being able to shoot fish in a barrel, the Lady Cabal Of Dunces have picked sense out of your nonsense without derailing the purpose of the thread ( your intention).

Go and find something constructive to do and sit down somewhere with said task, Beloved.

So not only did they keep the lid on things at the time of the abusive behaviour but they helped to enable the attempt to make the Tortoise Media story to be not a thing. It's only now, that there's no risk in speaking up, and possibly there's some gain, that tongues are loosening.

Yes, although not all of those people would've had the power to make a difference. Which is something notable in a lot of these cases. My ire would be really reserved for those who did have that power and the awareness and did nothing or deliberately chose to put the lid on it.

As you say, BernardBlacksMolluscs, something clearly escalated or changed over time I think. Although I think once the newer stories were included on the podcast and the pattern of behaviour became glaringly apparent, that'll be when Vulture started working on it. Wasn't the journalist (Lila Shapiro) one of the people on the NG Reddit thread, if not one of the mods? I kind of got that impression. Add in the more anecdotal "low level" stuff from those who'd met him and it starts to all add up. (And of course it couldn't be allowed to be "just" a Rachel Johnson story...)

On the first thread I said that I thought this would eventually just slip away quietly and that given enough time, NG would slowly slide his way back in.

I am really surprised but equally delighted that this isn’t the case, and it’s increasingly looking as if this predatory man is toast.

Standing ovation for those women who were brave enough to stand up and tell their stories 👏

Me too, and for a while back there it really seemed he was going to. And then - Bam! The tide turned indeed. Couldn't happen to a nicer fella.

I think with NG it was a combination of everything. He had so much out on social media saying he was a good guy ‘believing women’, the bit about collecting photos of fans in baths, the stories of good v bad and split personalities, the weird photo shoots and stories about him and his wife’s relationship, growing up in Scientology and people’s stories about his family. And after that multiple women telling their stories. It all makes sense.

Oh he’s back. Who put 50p in the dickhead?

You’re ace 😂

YourAmplePlumPoster · 01/02/2025 23:39

Well you all thought Johnny Depp and Marilyn Manson were "done." Both acquited though they got the same treatment on here.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 01/02/2025 23:40

How about the ex wife's complicity as it appears. Does she get cancelled too?

Babadookinthewardrobe · 01/02/2025 23:43

Aah, seems it was me who put 50p in the dickhead this time. My bad.

😂

Iamnotalemming · 02/02/2025 00:28

It's like the robot on a Grand Day Out but less charming.

Agree.

You can't just rebant the bant and change the name*, that's not even proper bants.

*well technically you can in a kind of post-modern performative metabant, to which the correct response is to rebant the rebant, with "your mum" thus bringing matters to a satisbantory denouement.

TLDR: Who put 50p in Your Mum?

SpidersAreShitheads · 02/02/2025 09:04

I’m not responding to the child in the room here. They’ve ignored every single post asking them reasonable questions and just reappear to troll for attention. Yawn.

Anyway.

I was out last night with a group of friends, mainly gay men but there was one female friend there one who is a similar age to me. I’ve not seen her for ages. We were talking and I told her about NG as she hadn’t seen any of the details but was vaguely aware he’d been cancelled.

The thing that really came out though is that so many women in their 40s are just thoroughly sick of the shit that men pull. Of course it goes without saying that NAMALT but way too many are. It’s just not a surprise any more but we were both saying that we just feel as if we’ve had enough of it. No tolerance left for patriarchal BS. And although both of us have had mainly male friends throughout our lives, we are both finding the company of women really nourishing now.

She was also saying that her teen boys had been following Andrew Tate and believed what they’d heard - but luckily she intervened and put them straight so they don’t watch his stuff any more. And they are three really kind, lovely boys, not the type of incense you’d associate with Tate. I wish there were healthier male role models for our young men.

Instead we’ve got lecherous men like NG who somehow persuade youngsters that it’s perfectly normal to send him pictures of themselves in the bath. Fucking creep.

Sorry, this post isn’t particularly relevant to NG specifically other than to say another woman is now aware of what a predator he is. But just also to say how utterly wearisome it is to constantly have to deal with male egos, male privilege, and rife misogyny. I’ve discovered that even men who seem lovely and by their actions seem to be a genuine female ally have misogynistic views. It just never fucking ends. Gah.

Edited

I didn’t actually realise this was shared by David Tennant so thank you @PriOn1

David Tennant, that great bastion of women’s rights ~cough~ is another one who’s been remarkably silent so far. I’d have expected some comment from him bearing his central role in Good Omens but he’s not said a word, to the best of my knowledge….apart from sharing this statement.

JazzyJelly · 02/02/2025 10:34

Neither of the Good Omens leads have said anything about Neil Gaiman I believe. Neil Gaiman is still one of the 4 people Michael Sheen follows on Bluesky.

Silence is sometimes very loud.

I have to confess to being irrationally pissed off at Tennant, primarily because he’s seen it as his duty to verbally attack women for wanting safe single sex spaces while simultaneously staying silent about his rapey pal.

But you’re absolutely right to mention Michael Sheen too. I was commenting on his Twitter a few months back asking for his response re whether it was appropriate to be bigging up Good Omens when its creator was currently under scrutiny for multiple sexual assaults. Of course I didn’t expect a reply but I wanted to make the point that silence isn’t acceptable.

I didn’t realise he still followed NG on Bluesky. How thoroughly depressing but predictable.

So many of these “good guys” really don’t give a fuck about women’s rights if it inconveniences them.

CorruptedCauldron · 02/02/2025 11:15

Tennant remains silent on Gaiman - his Facebook page is managed by his fan-site.

Aaah ok. That makes sense. Of course Tennant hasn’t said anything. I mean, why would he? Just pesky women getting themselves sexually assaulted. How very irritating of them to ruin his TV show…

SionnachRuadh · 02/02/2025 11:40

Considering that Gaiman used his friendship with Tennant to enhance his appeal to young women... I mean, boasting that you know Tennant has a definite "would you like to see a puppy" vibe.

If I were Tennant, I'd want to run very quickly away from that shit. Even if he doesn't have the moral fibre, surely Tennant's agent knows that his fanbase is overwhelmingly female.

If he hasn't spoken, it's because he doesn't want to. Contrary to the dweebs on the NG subreddits who are spinning fantasies for themselves about DT working behind the scenes to get NG cancelled.

Yes let's cancel Tennant and Sheen too. Just to be on the safe side. Funny that the series is about Witchfinders 😅
