Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

The “women’s march” that’s all about the men.

I couldn’t see a thread about this, but I’m just here to share how annoying it is to see a so-called women’s march so concerned with placating men. This is the march in January.

As well as the highly predictable “this is for all women” (meaning including the ones who are men) and the ‘we don’t tolerate transphobia’ (meaning any concept of sex-based oppression), the Facebook group is full of posts reassuring men that of course they’re welcome and it’s not all men and obviously “not my Nigel”. It’s infuriating. Why do people do this?

Which charity?
It wasn't Trevi in Plymouth was it?

Has there already been some discussion about this upthread? Can you direct me?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/01/2025 23:41

Why do they want a women's charity banned?

It was yesterday, I didn't post all the screenshots but basically someone complained because Trevi don't accept TW as women which is transphobic.
They went on to talk about charities which are inclusive and someone added that Trans Pride would be at the march.
Another woman asked why they'd be there and was told that Transwomen are women of course.
I'm blocked now too so can't find out anything else.
Last I knew they were having a speaker named Mel who works for Trevi.

Oh, and there was an article on Plymouth live with a few comments supporting actual women

🙄

Well, we've been told...

So their position is that women are entitled to hold those beliefs but not express them?

That's interesting.

ArabellaScott · 17/01/2025 06:47

I see they've managed to find the Forstater reference.

But they don't appear to have grasped the implications of protected belief.

I posted about trevi comment about 3 weeks ago ish? Horrible comments about the charity being anti trans etc. I wasn't aware trevi had been asked to speak at the Plymouth March as I've not kept on top of that particular thread.

I'm just slack jawed at the most recent comment about inclusivity and have clocked maybe 3 individuals saying 'yeah but' and they've been shut down big time.

As per usual, something for biological women has to be taken over by men 🙄

BackToLurk · 17/01/2025 07:16

Well it was lovely while it lasted but I’ve finally been kicked out. A day before I’d intended to cut loose, but hey.

I have the screenshots, so I’m fairly confident I haven’t been ‘transphobic’. Nope. Just a slightly different opinion about women’s charities and violent offenders.

My fun fact aside is, when I first joined I got to the agreeing to rules bit, thought “nope” and didn’t continue the request. Only to get a notification to say my request to join had been accepted. So I didn’t even have to lie to get in.

The speaker from Trevi who I believe is a prominent advocate for women's rights has been cancelled. One person in the chat has just proclaimed how excellent it is. Gross

RoyalCorgi · 17/01/2025 09:31

The monstrous stupidity of these people is just off the scale.

Literally an award winning campaigner iirc

I imagine they're in purge mode.

That's interesting.

And illegal discrimination, to boot. They seem to think that national legislation doesn't apply to them.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/01/2025 11:10

Maybe they think it doesn't apply because they're a grassroots campaign rather than an organisation?

TigerLily40 · 17/01/2025 11:33

Any screenshots of them speaking about the cancellation of Trevi?

Chrysanthemum5 · 17/01/2025 12:02

I've given up apparently I'm a terrible person. My local march was cancelled anyway

Sadly not and I left the group.

TigerLily40 · 17/01/2025 12:20

Well it will be all over after tomorrow but I certainly hope no one is harmed with that convicted rapist / torturer there.

That old chestnut still doing the rounds.

Snowypeaks · 17/01/2025 12:51

The EHRC guidance is still taking a similar line - that expressing GC beliefs in public could be harassment. It's wrong in law. Even as a non-lawyer, I feel confident in saying that.

I put one up but got it deleted as I'd accidentally included names by accident. Nothing more than was reported here.

Who knows? Perhaps they just think that Stonnewall dictate the law and that they're entitled to exclude and discriminate against GC women?

They aren't the first to take that attitude.
