The “women’s march” that’s all about the men.

BackToLurk · 11/12/2024 13:24

I couldn’t see a thread about this, but I’m just here to share how annoying it is to see a so-called women’s march so concerned with placating men. This is the march in January.

As well as the highly predictable “this is for all women” (meaning including the ones who are men) and the ‘we don’t tolerate transphobia’ (meaning any concept of sex-based oppression), the Facebook group is full of posts reassuring men that of course they’re welcome and it’s not all men and obviously “not my Nigel”. It’s infuriating. Why do people do this?

...at any event where we have a formal presence, we will always ensure that the nature, safety arrangements and overall messaging of an event is in line with our own organisational position. These factors are often not simply linked to the event itself and its official objectives but also encompass an assessment of any activities or wider context that risks obscuring or changing the message and tone.

Members will be aware that we have made similar decisions about our participation in other national events in the past leading to us withdrawing or rescheduling where we feel involvement is no longer in the best interests of the WI or its members...

Very telling.

ArabellaScott · 16/01/2025 12:37

Agree, Eresh.

Apart from allllllllllllllll the other issues, it seems all of this is being done so very last minute. I was surprised a reputable organisation would involve itself in something without due diligence.

Still, I expect they're about to find out how kind and inclusive TRAs are.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/01/2025 12:47

I wonder if their own TRA member is annoyed at this decision.

I'm gong to guess at yes.

This might be the unravelling of the WI's self defeating acceptance of TWAW.

TRAs aren't known for their circumspection when it comes to being pissed off.

'pretty disgusting that you've given in to organised threats from transphobes!'

Fairly quiet response so far.

I see the WI, unlike the WRN, is keeping very quiet about why they no longer think it's in the interests of their members.

Snowypeaks · 16/01/2025 15:56

Not the main point of the thread, but it came up in a screenshot, so I have to say..

We don't want to be protected "by men".
We want protection from men by the law.

Snowypeaks · 16/01/2025 16:02

ArabellaScott · 16/01/2025 12:22

Sensible.

Dunno... Sounds to me as if they are hinting that terfs might cause trouble (which is rich!) or they are pulling out in case there is trouble. They are supportive of the TWAW organisations.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/01/2025 16:35

They're being vague, but they specifically mention the "overall messaging of the event" so I think that refers to some of the violent TRA rhetoric, fawning over criminals etc. They're not going to pull out because a few women might turn up with some "men aren't women" banners.

Ok, fair enough then they are pulling out only/mainly because of the potential for violence or being associated with violence. Unfortunately they still seem on board with the idea that "women" includes male people.
However. It's something that they have drawn a line at implied or explicit threats, at least. And it's pretty obvious now that the organisers are clueless.

I think it's going to take a while to turn that tanker round, but possibly a scintilla of awareness has been gained.

The London group has a side chat where they ate deleting women who ask questions like “why did you name yourself after a serial killer?” Which wasn’t really answered before she was ejected.

Well done that woman

TigerLily40 · 16/01/2025 18:42

Apparently they welcome all signs and banners...except ones that call for single sex spaces and a woman gets bullied into changing hers.

They silence anyone who dares questions anyone. This whole thing would be funny if it wasn't so bloody tragic.

So Abortion Support Network are going to be a key speaker. I warned them about the group and Sarah Baker but they are in full support of both..

@TigerLily40 that reads like, "We know SJB has done terrible things, but it doesn't matter - she's trans and so of course she's welcome." Confused

Yeah, I wouldn't care who you were, I would not allow Sarah anywhere near a march. At this rate, they would accept P Diddy in a dress as long as he said men are women 😂 😂 😂

CorruptedCauldron · 16/01/2025 21:08

They know exactly what sex SJB is. That’s why they’re fawning. Men are held to much lower standards of behaviour than women. Women fighting for sex-based rights aren’t welcome because their words are seen as hurtful and bigoted. They are expected to be Very Nice At All Times because they're female, socialised to be kind and welcoming, and how dare they try to advocate for women without centring trans-identified males.

Meanwhile, SJB, who served actual jail time for torturing, literally injuring and nearly killing someone - note these were physical harms, not hurtful words - and who called for terfs to be punched in the effing face (a clear incitement to violence against women), is gushed over as a “lovely lady”.

They don’t believe SJB is a lovely lady, not for one second. These Aunt Lydias need to take a good long look at themselves. Embarrassing.

ArabellaScott · 16/01/2025 21:13

'Lovely lady' - sweet christ on a bike.

ArabellaScott · 16/01/2025 21:21

Well, there's not much more to be said, really, is there?

It does demonstrate that people can be persuaded to overlook the most horrific acts based on some vague idea of 'niceness'.

TigerLily40 · 16/01/2025 21:28

She's a "lovely lady". Brainwashing at its finest. This is so bad and I have never seen anything like this. It truly makes me scared that there are women out there buying into all this. What is the world coming to?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/01/2025 21:29

Women unfortunately are some of the worst enablers of these men.

This man is a violent criminal and they are wanting to protest against gender based violence but have someone like him speak? It is now gaining traction over Facebook now and people are shocked that this man is joining. They are now losing support as a small organisation that was planning on going is now looking into it and thinking about not attending due to Sarah being there.
These women are either really naive or stupid
